Student Support ServicesMission Statement

The K-12 Counseling Program implemented in the Shorewood School District is intended to

address the needs of the “whole child” at developmentally

appropriate age levels and to build a foundation of good decision-making skills that serves the

student into adulthood.

TRANSITION ACTIVITIES for

ALL INCOMING FRESHMEN SIS 8th Grade Lunch Tours:

Students eat lunch on campus and SHS Ambassadors lead small groups of students on a tour of campus while answering questions.

Non SIS 8th Grade Shadow & LunchStudents shadow a current Freshman for a half day and stay for a question/answer lunch session.

Peer Mentor ProgramAll Freshmen will be assigned a Peer Mentor Small Group. Meetings are held at lunch to model/teach skills & strategies needed for student success. There is a possibility of individual meetings with the Mentor if grades are low after first quarter and/or first semester.

Online Summer Freshmen Orientation created for students to access information through out the summer. Students will get to know about their teachers, what to expect in high school, and connect with their peers and mentors using technology.

First Day Class MeetingWe meet with all Freshmen in the

Auditorium to introduce how to make the next 4 years of high school a success.

All Freshmen receive a packet of information to take home and refer back to the information that was shared.

We discuss setting goals for freshman year that are reviewed with Peer Mentors to set an Action Plan.
