Hello Metro Division! I still can’t believe that we are already 1/4 into our term already. Time is definitely flying by. As it is

summer, try to stay as active you can with your club and the division. This will only help you when the fall semester comes in; especially those not in summer session. Circle K doesn’t stop when it gets too hot or school finishes for the year; the ball is constantly rolling and our story never stops. The summer is an excellent time to socialize as during the school year, there is less time for these not so pressing activities. It is also very important to take the time during the summer to plan for what is coming up in the Fall. The fall is probably the busiest time of the year and, preparation is key to a pro-ductive kick start to the new school year. Start planning today! I do hope that you are all having a great summer so far though. For those of you in summer school, you will get a break soon. Enjoy the sun and don’t get sunburned. Make sure to stay hydrated throughout all of your adventures this summer, wear sun protection lotion, don’t get into too much trouble. Happy late-Fourth of July as well. What do you have planned next though? For me, after the July District Board Weekend, I will be taking a trip east. This summer I will be visiting New Jersey, Washington DC, Toronto, Canada, and New York. I am definitely not looking forward to the humidity over there but the sights will definitely be worth it. If you are planning anywhere, please make sure to stay safe and enjoy your vacation. For those of you not going anywhere, remember you live so close to so many things. The city of Los Angeles has so man different sights and activities that it would probably take multiple summers to get you through it all. Go south to Orange County and visit Disneyland, surfs up in Santa Barbra, hike up to the Hollywood tower, or just take a stroll in your local park. Try something new, eat somewhere unique, make this summer one to never forget, even if only here. Enjoy it now because sooner or later, it will all be over. Stay cool, I can’t wait to see you all again soon! Driving for Service, Brandon Anthony P. Baello 2014-2015 Metro Division Lieutenant Governor

Banquet Season

The season of banquets has finally ended, and what a memo-rable season it was. Remembering being Tangled in Service or dining with Fairies and Gold Coins, will be a few of the highlights of the best way to end the administrative year. Each club has put in so much work decorating, preparing, performing and even cooking. It was definitely a Sweet Escape celebrating the hard work that all the clubs and their officers have put into their year. Every member deserves to end the year with a bang, and that is what we did. These clubs have brought together the Different Tastes to the dinner table and celebrated like they were in New Orleans on Fat Tuesday! For most, the tears couldn’t be held back but, tissues were never too far. The speeches, though some in length, were heart-felt and powerful. The spotlight was definitely shin-ning on each club. As this division continues this new year, the time for banquets will come again for us all. Congratulations again to USC, UCLA, ECC, CSUN, CSULB, and CSUDH for successfully hosting an End-of-the-Year Ban-quet. Lastly remember, we are all Unique and Ratchet in all that we do.

Infant Family Camp Weekend On May 31, 2014 CSUN Circle K embarked on a journey into the beautiful mountains of Malibu for Junior Blind America's Annual Infant

Family Camp Weekend. We entered a beautiful secluded valley by the beach. We indulged in a full day of service! We assisted children and adults,

both blind and not, with a variety of camp activities such as climbing walls, archery, arts and crafts, and supervising chil-

dren on the playgrounds. Portions of the event involved watching over all the children while the parents during social

hour. Activities included story time, sensory activities for the blind children, sport activities,

and socializing. CSUN Club MD&E chair really enjoyed how "we got to work with chil-

dren in a good atmosphere," and enjoyed how personal each interaction was. Many of the

other volunteers were very hands on with each relationship the built with each child the

helped. This event was absolutely amazing and held at a beautiful venue. We had a blast at

the event, worked with amazing staff, and helped so many wonderful people. We can't wait

until the next time we work with them next.

LMU needs YOU! The Circle K club of Loyola Marymount needs

your help at their event in August. The event is in someway like a tabling event for this club. All the clubs on their campus will be coming out to attract new members to join. As a smaller club looking to rise up, come out and show some Metro support. If we can get enough support, I know that president Andrina would be extremely grateful. Come out everyone!

What is Compton Initiative? This event is definitely all about helping out the

community with your Kiwanis Family. You will be working together with many Circle K'ers, with Metro, Foothill, and Magic Kingdom divisions to help out in a day of service and fellowship! Put together by Kiwanis with the support of all the SLP’s, you will be painting King Elementary, murals, nearby homes, participating in block-clean ups, and a community garden. The workday includes painting, cleaning and building great relation-ships with other volunteers. Definitely come out to the next one.

UCLA Summer Meetings! UCLA Circle K will be hosting their summer general meetings every other Thursday, starting July 10, 2014.Come out and support the Bruins and network/ mingle with all if their clubs attendees. Hope to see you all there!

The Metro End-of-the-Year banquet was a musically classy evening. With excellent food, entertaining performances, and a ban-quet that was ran by members of Metro for the members of Metro, this night was one to remember. Thank you to everyone who was able to attend the banquet, to everyone who supported the clubs of Metro Division in the past and plan to in the future, and everyone that helped out. We hope that you all enjoyed the banquet and hope to see you at next years banquet!

Woodbury University's Circle K is very small, we are very new to the campus. We started the process to establish the club as an organization fall of 2012 and finally got founded in 2013. We are currently a four person Eboard of ex key club members and gained only a few members in the past year. We have had done very small events with the local YMCA but this year we hope to make our mark on campus and host bigger projects. We want to expand and establish a strong image for the club so that we can leave the officers after us. with a strong foundation.

Why come to DCM? DCM is a very important time of every

month because officers and members of different clubs come together in-order to update each other on their clubs doings. This DCM will also include a workshop on Member-ship Retreats, hosted by Tiffany Tran from UCLA. Moreover, we will have time to write letters and make shout-out videos to our divisional buddies. Third, there is going to be a Running Man Race styled event after the DCM hosted by Kari De Luna from ECC. Lastly, it is a ICNIC POTLUCK! Bring your blankets and chairs, sandwiches and chips, and anything else you would like to bring. Drinks will be provided! Hope to see you all there.

Celebrity Yard Sale What would it be like

to support a good cause, work with a celebrity, and be a Circle K all at the same time? Well you can find out by attending Metro Division’s upcoming service pro-ject, Celebrity Yard Sale. This event is being put to-gether by ECC’s VP of Service John Picazo. What exactly happens? Celebrity’s donate their own items to be sold at a “yard sale” style event. There is also a silent auction. The proceeds of the event will go towards the Juvenile Arthritis Association. Please note that further information will be sent out as the date approaches. If you have any immediate inquiries, please email John at [email protected].

Divisional Buddies Metro-Magic-Foothill for June-July-August!

The Lieutenant Governors of CNH Circle K are bringing back Divisional Buddies with more strength and desire. Metro’s divisional buddies this season (June-August) are Magic Kingdom (OC area) and Foothill (Pasadena, Pomona, East LA areas) divisions. Our first initiative is to participate in the pen pal system and write letters to the different divisions. So WRITE LETTERS and bring it to the next DCM! Letters will be given to the other divisions at the August DCM, which will possibly be a joint DCM. Lastly, we will be making shout-out videos at the July DCM so definitely come out and support not only Metro but our Divisional Buddies as well.

District Committees

Congratulations to all the members of Metro Division who applied and successfully have been accepted to be apart of a district committee. The district needs individuals like you to provide insight and innovative ideas to your respective committee. For the extensive list of all the committee members from all-over the district, check it all out at cnhcirclek.org.

Hey Metro! How's it going?!? :D I'm Alfredo Muñoz, Foothill Division Lieutenant Governor and I am super excited for this upcoming CKI year! >. < For those of you that don't know who I am, here's a little blurb about me :) I went to Downey High School and upon graduation, absolutely knew that I wanted to join CKI. I joined Foothill Division Circle K at events even before I officially started at Cal Poly Pomona. I still love it with all my heart <3. Now, I'm going into my third year attending Cal Poly Pomona as an Aerospace Engineering Undergraduate with a minor in Mate-rials Engineering. Besides Circle K, I am also super involved in housing and will be a Resident Advisor this upcoming year :D. I'm a very personable guy and enjoy conversation, so feel free to find me on Facebook and message me. Especially if you see me around at a store, at a service project, or anywhere else, say hello! :D I would absolutely love to get to know you ^-^ Looking forward to an absolutely amazing year!!! xD

Hello friends of Metro! My name is Jong Choi and I will be serving as your liaison for the Finance and Fundraising Committee! I’ll start by sharing a little about myself! I am a second year attending UCLA majoring in Chemistry! I was origi-nally born in South Korea, and I moved to Hawaii when I was 5. I’ve been involved with Kiwanis ever since I was a Key Club-ber in high school. I decided to join Key Club because of my love for community service, and my passion carried on with me

in college. While I was walking on campus, I got flyered for UCLA CKI, and I decided to join without a doubt. As I got more and more involved with Circle K, I found everything I was doing to be fulfilling, the service, the fellowship, and even some of the leadership! I was lucky enough to get involved with Appointed Board, and as of now I serve as UCLA CKI’s District Fundraising Initiatives Chair. You may ask, why fundraising? Well fundraising to me means a lot because it’s a special type of service that allows me to be creative. Not only does having fundraisers contribute to service, but it also allows for educating people on what our District Fundraising Initiatives are. As your Metro FiFun liaison I hope to get to know each Treasurer and Fundraising Chair very well, as well as every member in the Metro division. I hope to have workshops on educating members on our District Fundraising Initiatives and to serve as a communication bridge between the district and our Metro division. Please introduce yourself to me because I love meeting new people! Talk to me about anything, whether it’s Circle K related or not. M M MET T T TRO MET TRO METRO!

Jong Choi (UCLA) Finance and Fundraising Liaison

Hello Metro Division! My name is Johnny Cao-Nguyen and I have the honor of serving members like you on not just one, but TWO District Committees this year! I am proudly serving as your Campfire Skits/Talent Show Chair on the Fall Training Conference Committee as well as your Metro Divisional Liaison on the Awards Committee. With both of these roles, I hope to make your experience as a Circle K member definitely one to remember. I started my involvement in Circle K right when I was a freshman at Cal State Long Beach, becoming the club's MD&E Chair, and eventually becoming the current Vice President of Administra-tion. In total, I've been a part of the Kiwanis family for nearly 6 years now (man, I can't believe it's been that long...) Circle K is definitely a very large part of my life, but I also have other things that interest me as well, one of those things being music! I absolutely adore music and the way that it can affect people's lives and change their viewpoints completely. People always ask me what instrument do I play when I ini-tially tell them that I'm a performer and so I awkwardly tell them, "...my voice?" because if you don't know already, I'm a singer and I don't really have any instrument in my hand to perform... But yeah, if you're one who loves to sing or perform as well, just talk to me and we might just hit it off really well. Well there you have it~ These are just a few small tidbits about me that I'm sharing now, but if you want to get to know me any better, feel free to just come up and talk to me! I'd like to think that I'm a very sociable person, but only when approached first. On behalf of both the Fall Training Conference AND the Awards Committees, I hope that we can do the best to make sure that you stay informed and stay impressed with everything that we are doing on the District level. Please, if you have any questions about FTC or Awards or you just want to chat, you can send me an email or a message on Facebook or you can even track me down at a DCM and ask me there. Thank you for allowing me to serve you as a District Committee member and I hope to meet more of you in the future!

Johnny Cao-Nguyen (CSULB) Awards & FTC Liaison What's up Metro?! My name is Derek and I'll be one of your Fall Training Conference Committee liaisons for this year! Or should I say a few months, since FTC is only about 4 months away? SO SOON RIGHT!? Stay posted for anything that comes up, as Johnny Cao-Nguyen and I will be giving you updates on FTC! Don't be afraid to ask questions either, we don't bite! A little about myself so I don't seem random to you: I'm going to be a third year at UCLA this Fall, and I'm ma-joring in Computer Science. Lo and behold, my position on the committee is A/V & Technology Chair! It's the first year the FTC Committee has this position, so I'm super stoked to be able to make the first ever FTC website and run A/V equipment at the event! The website is still underway, so feel free to check it out from time to time and see how it's coming! It's at ftc.cnhcirclek.org Other random things about me include: I LOVE basketball, my favorite kind of music is EDM, and I love giving and getting massages! Wanna know more about me or anything about Fall Training Conference 2014? ASK ME! Face-book me or email me @ [email protected], and I'd be happy to answer any questions you have!

For the 2013-2014 term I served as one of UCLA's Ki-wanis Family Chairs. On a different note, I am an incoming 3rd year and, finally, a Physiological Science major. Outside of Circle K, I like to watch House of Cards and How I Met Your Mother on Netflix and run up hills. Come introduce yourself to me if I have not met you yet! I am excited to talk to you. :)

CKIx (#CKIx14 whoohoo!) was the ultimate six day experience that comprised of International Convention 2014 (ICON) and its Large Scale Service Projects (LSSP), and has become one of my best CKI experiences yet! This year, ICON took place in Nashville, Tennessee, June 17-22 to this amazing event. Circle K members from all over the world joined together to celebrate the 2013-2014 year by meeting new friends, recognizing one an-

other’s achievements, and of course, through service! The first two days were dedicated to Large Scale Service Projects (with an opening ceremony led by our very own David Limjoco carrying out his final duties as a 13-14 International Trustee); however, what made this even more fun was that people were randomly placed in a group with 10-15 other people who come from ALL OVER THE WORLD. YAY more friends ! We got to create our own team names, and bonded with our group during the two days of service projects. My team deemed ourselves as the “SERVICE BANDITS *PEW PEW*;” we visited the Cheekwood Botanical Gardens on the first day to assisted with restoration, and then the March of Dimes head-quarters on the next. After the second service project there was a fellowship night in which each team competed against each other in a series of relay games! Other fun things from ICON included sightsee-ing Nashville, workshops, voting on amendments (if you were a delegate), and of course Awards Night!

Subregion B consists of Cal-Nev-Ha, Rocky Mountain, and South-west districts. Imagine it like divisions on the interna-tional level. Leadership Academy

International Committees and Task Forces

The three tenants of Circle K are Service, Fellowship, and Leadership. The tenant leadership is given special attention with the annual Leadership Academy. Any one may apply to attend but, only 60 people from around the WORLD are accepted. This is going to be a 6 day leadership training session that will teach you how to be a stronger leader. Team building exercises, workshops, and more. You will defi-nitely better your knowledge of what a leader is and of yourself as a student leader. Your abilities will be tested and your truest potential may be unlocked. There is so much to gain from only 6 days in Indiana. Apply, attend, and make friends with 60 random strangers from around the world.

How can you participate internationally? How can you get more involved in Circle K? Circle K Interna-

tional is bigger than we remember sometimes. There are so many different resources and other Circle K clubs all-around the world. Remember that each club is different and everyone can use some help. With that said, Circle K International has committees and task forces to assist clubs all over the world and to ensure a productive and successful administrative year. But, what can you do? Join their committees/ task forces. There are many different aspects of Circle K that are covered by a specific committee or taskforce. For example, if you would like to be apart of putting together the Large Scale Service Project for Circle K International, there is a committee waiting for you. There is so much more than just your home club, divi-sion, or even district. Take a bigger step, take a bigger role, and make a bigger difference in this organization and eventually to your community.

Calling all Presidents! One of the most memorable moments for a

president is President’s Retreat. A new president comes into this event in one way and leaves with a stronger connection with the district. Why is this so important one may ask? Attendees have a major opportunity during this weekend. One gets to meet all the presidents in attendance, from near and far. The district works very hard to put together numerous workshops with a variety of topics. Your bond within your division and your district is strengthened by coming together. Re-member, each president is in the same shoes that you are in. They say the District/ Presidents that sleep together in these tents, stays together through the long haul. With such an amazing opportunity, it is hard to see why any president would be absent. Attendees should know that they should be excited for a memorable weekend under the summer sun and stars.

If by chance you are unable to attend this event or you will be sending

an alternate, please email District MD&E Chair Tae Hyun Lim so he may be

aware.

What a better way to learn about different leadership aspects than through a work-shop. The Metro Division of Circle K has begun to hold workshops at Divisional Council Meetings. The first workshop was held by Kari De Luna, Co-Spirit and Public Relations Chair at El Camino Circle K. Her topic was Public Relations. The next workshop is on Member Retreats. This workshops is going to be held by Tiffany Tran from UCLA. What will the next workshop be? These workshops are being held by Circle K members of Metro Division for the Circle K members of Metro Division.

With it being summer and officers on vacation, back home, or out sight and out of mind, it can be very difficult to hold a meeting with mem-bers/ officers. Solution! Hold your meeting online or on the phone. Online meetings can be just as effective as one that is in person. There are so many different tools that are provided for FREE! The most popular method is Webcam. There are different sights from which officers and members can partici-pate in a meeting. Conference calling is supposedly the most productive method. If you don’t have a webcam, the webcam based sights allow you to have verbal call (no camera necessary. Some tips and tricks. Ensure to schedule a day, a time, and method that is convenient for the majority of the attendees. Have an agenda, send the agenda to the attendees at least 24 hours before the scheduled meeting. Possibly download necessary programs/ apps before the meeting as well. Lastly, create rules for the meeting to keep order. Such as, a safe word when the topic is going of on a tangent or only speaking when called on by whoever is running the meeting. Try out these methods today, they can be used year round!
