:Health-Care Waste (HCW)
Is the waste generated as a result of Health care activities, which in itself may endanger public safety since it carries a great infection potential than any other type of waste. Improper medical waste handling has catastrophic consequences on public health and the environment. Therefore it is vital to avail a reliable & safe handling method at point of waste generation through proper management of Health-Care Waste (HCW) as a KEY element for the protection of public Health and the environment.

Health, Safety & Environment (HSE), must co-exist to achieve the ultimate target of citizens well-being, consequently, and to preserve Environment , control & limit spread of diseases, WEKAYA had taken the initiative and prepared Healthcare waste management awareness training program based on Federal & local relative laws & regulations &international guidelines.

MONITORING & CONTROL
WEKAYA approved the HCF trade License number as a unique identifier and had linked it with a scanner / barcode device connected through GPS/satellite system to monitor & control medical waste data from source (Generator) to final disposal.
Data is being collected electronically and presented in a report format to HCFs on monthly basis.

Wekaya collects and transports HCW to treatment facility located at Saja’a area, equipped with state of the art environmentally friendly treatment facility (Autoclave), besides disinfection of transport fleet and waste bins.

1. REGISTRATION
Clients fill-up the registration form and attach the MOH License and Trade License copy of the healthcare facility (HCF).
2. CONTRACT SIGNING
Contract will be signed by the authorized signatory of all parties (HCF and WEKAYA) and should be attested by municipality.
3. TRAINING
Once HCF signs the contract, Wekaya conducts a medical waste awareness training for Healthcare workers, who are trained to become Medical Waste Officers (MWO) responsible of safely handling, sorting, packing, segregating and storing medical wastes in accordance with waste type using designated color coded tags and approved containers.
4. PREPARATION
• Site Visit - Collection team allocates HCF physical address and registers Satellite co-ordinates • Barcode- IT. Dept. prepares barcode plates & collectors affix them on respective facilities along with supplies distribution as per contract e.g. (Bags, Tags, containers, Etc.) • Collections Schedule confirmation and service start.

5. COLLECTION
Drivers and collectors are trained to properly handle all medical waste types, proper use of handheld device and other activities to follow and maintain the schedule. Upon completion of medical wastes collection, the facility’s MWO will sign on the handheld scanner device and automatically, HCF will receive an email with the status and type of wastes collected from their facility. Scheduling and Dispatching of vehicle The service interval of WEKAYA to the health facilities ranges from one visit per week to one visit per day, depending on the size of the facility.
6. RECEIVING
Trained operators will receive the waste in our treatment facility, weigh it, and verify that ALL necessary recordkeeping logs have been updated correctly against the online data system. - HCW will be segregated according to category. - Data will be uploaded to online system
7. TREATMENT
A dedicated healthcare waste treatment facility was established inside the Municipality landfill area, where waste is sorted, weighed and then treated according to type. An Autoclave (Log6) system for HCW infectious waste has been working successfully with proven regular bio-testing process.
8. DISPOSAL
Upon completion of medical waste treatment, it would be disposed of in the dedicated landfill area. Landfill Municipality owned, controlled and operated landfill.

Technology:
Our facility uses the latest technology in capturing collection data being utilized by our highly trained staff. It is also secured with CCTV cameras which can be access through computer and even with mobile devices.
Data Collection (Hardware and Software) Online database application that provide real time information collection activity through the use of PDA device.
CCTV Cameras Enables our management and supervisors to see the actual activity in facility (24/7) even they are out of the area using their apple or android mobile devices.
