The February Maverick Celebration

By: Kanishq C.

The Maverick Celebration was fun and crazy!!! There was popcorn, DJ Burgest, a little open photo booth with funky props. The popcorn and the dance party were great and not many people dressed up as their favorite Hollywood Star. The reason could be that they were just lazy, didn't like dressing up so snazzy. Although the majority of the kids didn't dress up, some did.

At first, the kids were kind of bummed out about not getting enough popcorn, but at the end, the teachers had a surplus amount of popcorn and so "MORE POPCORN FOR EVERYONE”‼‼‼‼

Justin Bieber

By: Blake M.

Pop star who was propelled to fame after his 2010 YouTube single "Baby" became an international hit. But, it’s music video has the most thumbs down than any YouTube video. His debut album My World 2.0 de-buted at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200 and went on to sell over 5 million copies worldwide. Before fame, he kept his singing aspirations to himself when he was younger and played chess, soccer, and hockey until up-loading a cover of Ne-Yo's "So Sick" to YouTube in 2007.

Are .io Games Taking over the School?

By: Scott A.

In my grade, which is 7th grade, I see a lot of kids playing .io games. If you are unfamiliar with those, they are gaming websites ending with “.io” instead of .com or .org. The most played one that I see is narwhale.io. It is a game about narwhals running into each other to gain levels. The goal is to try to get to the top of the Leaderboard. Another one I see is splix.io. It is a game about getting the most area colored in your favor. Others can steal your land too, so watch out for that. Another is zlap.io. It is a game about ramming spike balls into others to make your spike ball get bigger. Your spike ball is connect-ed to you so it can only go a certain distance without ricocheting back at you. Don’t worry though, your own spike ball can’t kill you. Lastly, there is a game called slither.io. It is about snakes slither-ing around and the goal is to try and cut someone off. If you do, you can collect their body mass which is in the shape of circles. You want to be the biggest snake in the end. These were a few games under the .io category. I encourage you to try them out and have fun, but don’t do it in class. You could get in trouble!

Too Many Grade School Jordan's?

By: Jeff H

There are way too many grade school Jor-dan's. Just in January, February, and March alone there are 6 grade school only pairs of shoes. I wear a size 11 in men's and I’m ok with shoes that are Men sizes and G’s sizes. There are a lot of great colorways that are just for grade school sizes. It even happens with other shoes such as the Foamposites such as the Fruity Pebbles, LeBron's, and even Adidas. I have nothing against girls shoes but when they get all the cool colorways then that’s where I get upset. One time I even ordered a pair of Jor-dan's that I really liked and when they came to my house I figured out that it was a Girls grade school shoe. Of course I returned it and got my money back but it makes me feel like all the col-ors should be for everyone.

March Zodiacs

By: Chaese K. The March zodiacs are Pisces and Aries. These signs run from March 1st to March 20th.

The Pisces zodiac is the 12 zodiac sign and the final. Pisces are the happiest of all as-trological signs. These folks are selfless caring and very focused on their inner destination. It's a pair of fish to represent this sign. It’s fish to suggest that they “go with the flow”. Many people associate Pisces with dreams and spir-its to show they feel comfortable in their own world. Aries is the first sign in the zodiac. Seeing as that's how they see themselves as, first. Ar-ies are the first to get things done. They are always the leader of the group. An Aries will never shy away from new ground. A new days opportunities is always a true bliss to an Aries. An Aries charisma is truly what sets them apart from the other signs.

Star Spangled Banner

By: Joey M

Even though the star spangled banner was not created in March, it was official made the “Star Spangled Banner” the national anthem. The exact date, the song made the national anthem is March 3, 1931 after about 40 other failed attempts, the Congress passed the anthem. The process of making it the national anthem was stressing and long, but in the end President Hoover signed it into law. Now the national anthem is a song that is sang every time there is an important national event; for example the super bowl, and sadly the transferring of president this year. It is also played at most sporting events and it is one of the most known songs to represent our country - America!

Bradley Soccer Team

By: Arturo R.

This month the boy’s soccer tryouts are going to happen and only 15 or 16 boys are going to make the team. They are going to have the same coach as last year. I know a person that is going to make it, his name is Juan. He is good as strik-er he should be able to make it. I'm going to try out as well (for either RW or RCM) the boys soccer team should have good defense. It's on 3/22/17 Wednesday 4:30 to 6:30.

How did St. Patrick's Day Begin?

By: Ryan D.

St. Patrick's day began in Ireland as a feast to celebrate the death date of St. Patrick. St. Patrick lived from 385-461 AD. St. Patrick is famous for spreading Christianity throughout Ireland in the 5th century. On St. Patrick's Day people wear green because St. Patrick used a [3 leaf] clover to de-scribe the Holy Trinity to the Irish and clovers are green. Irish immigrants in the US believed that leprechauns existed among us and would pinch anyone they see. Wearing green is believed to make you invisible to leprechauns. Pinching people that are not wearing green was meant to remind you that leprechauns are nearby.

Saint Patrick’s Day By: Megan Ellis 1) St. Patrick’s Day is an annual feast day celebrating the patron saint the day is named after.

2) St. Patrick’s Day is the national holiday of Ireland and is usually cele-brated on March 17th.

3) St. Patrick’s Day has become a popular holiday in the United States. People wear green and eat corned beef and cabbage.

4) It is believed St. Patrick, a Roman-Britain-born Christian missionary, was born in the late fourth century and is credited with bringing Christian-ity to the Irish people.

5) It is also believed St. Patrick drove all the snakes out of Ireland. How-ever, post-glacial Ireland never actually had snakes. Many believe that the term “snakes” referred to the serpent symbolism of the Druids of that time and place. Today, there are no snakes to be found!

6) Most people, whether they are Irish or not, wear green on this day. One of the Irish traditions is to pinch anyone who is not wearing green on St. Patrick’s Day.

7) Irish immigrants began observing the holiday in Boston in 1737 and the first St. Patrick’s Day parade was held in New York City in 1766.

Dr.Suess

By: Erin F.

On March the 2nd, 1904, Dr.Suess was born. Dr.Suess has made 60 books in total in his life and all of them have been famous. One Of the best pieces he has written was “The Cat in The Hat” and “Green Eggs and Ham”. Dr.Suess left his home at the age of 18 to attend college. Almost everyone knows who Dr. Seuss is and when you were a child, I bet someone read you one of his books to you. You may have even read them yourself. He married Helen Palmer in the year 1927. His first cartoon with the name Seuss was in July 1927 in a newspaper. This cartoon led him to other drawing activities. The book “And to think that I saw on Mulberry Street” was published in 1937 after being rejected 27 times. That was one of the best things about Dr.Suess, even after being rejected many, many times, he did not stop trying. He is now one of the best writers in the U.S.A. Sadly, Dr.Suess passed away September 24th, 1991. Much of his books have been turned into Hollywood movies so many people can be reminded of Dr.Suess’ amazing works.

Ways to Help the Environ-ment

By: Elise H.

Helping the environment can be a fun way to preserve nature’s beauty and give back to the world you live in. There are multiple interesting ways you can do this, starting with limiting car use. Every time your car pulls out of your driveway, it releases gas into the air causing pollu-tion and limited oxygen. You can help this by riding the bus, carpooling with a neighbor, or riding your bike. Another issue is wasting plastic. When you just toss your empty water bottle in the gar-bage, it goes to a landfill. A way that you can help this issue is recycling your pa-per, plastic, and aluminum. These will then be sent to a recycling center to be reused or turned into something more

March Madness

By: Jeff H.

March madness is the NCAA's version of the Playoffs. There are many teams so sometimes it's hard to keep up with what's going on. I think there should be less teams that make it to March Madness. There should on-ly be the top 5 teams in each confer-ence that make it. March Madness started in March of 1939. Last year it was won by Villanova with a game win-ner over UNC, and the year before that it was won by Duke.

How to Get Enough

Sleep

By: Isaiah H.

Many people don’t get exactly 8 hours of sleep. Students especially, because they have a lot of homework and stress about

an upcoming test or quiz. Most students proba-bly get around 5—6 hours of sleep at the most. This can lead to not performing well in class. Students usually

stay up studying or doing homework. A way you could get more sleep is if you do your homework as soon as you get home. I know some students do their homework at night or at school. Another way to get enough sleep is to study for around 5 minutes for each subject. In all this should be around 30 minutes at least. Now

you should be more awake in class!

March’s Birthstones

By: Tourianna V.

Aquamarine and the Bloodstone are the birthstones of March; the aquamarine is a symbol of health, hope and youth; the stone’s color ranges from a pale blue to a dark blue. The stone’s name origi-nates from the Latin word “aqua "which means “water”. The aquamarine was said to protect sailors as well as guarantee a safe voyage. The color of the stone is believed to cool the temper of the wearer and allow them to remain level-headed. The bloodstone (also known as the heliotrope ) is a mineral quartz formed from tiny crystals in large clumps that show no actual crystal form. Bloodstone

is found embedded in rocks or river beds mostly in India, Brazil, and Australia . It is believed that

bloodstone was formed during the crucifixion of Christ. A Roman soldier thrust his spear into Christ’s side and drops of blood fell on pieces of dark green jasper lying at the foot of the cross and there the bloodstone was “created”.

Four-Leaf Clover Facts

By Aniya B.

Have you ever thought why is a four-leaf clover lucky? In centuries-old legends as symbols of good luck. The Druids (Celtic priest), in the early Ireland, believed that when they carry a three-leaf clover shamrock, they could see evil spirit coming and have a chance to escape in time. Four-leaf clovers were Celtic charms, presumed to offer magical protection and ward off bad luck. Children in the Middle Ages believed if they carried four leaf clover they were be able to see fairies, and the first literal reference to suggest their good fortune was made in 1620 by Sir John Melton.

NBA Playoff Predictions

By: Aidan S.

The way playoff predictions work is compli-cated. To predict the chances of making the playoffs you have to go through every teams stats of points per game and more. You can find the predictions of the teams this season by just searching on Google. Predicting playoffs is tough not only because it takes a lot of time and effort, but you have to think about the upsets too. An up-set is when a team that is not likely to beat anoth-er. This season is not the best season to start pre-dicting because there are two super teams, Gold-en State and Cleveland Cavaliers. If you want to start predicting you should start in March when college hoops picks back up. Have fun!!

March Madness

By: Scott A.

March Madness is a tournament for college bas-ketball teams. If you get a good enough record you can participate. It starts out with 64 teams. You will play a team in your conference and if you win, you move on. If you win the first 2 rounds you move on to the “Sweet Sixteen.” These are usual-ly the better teams and it will be harder to win as the tournament moves forward. After the Sweet Sixteen there is the Elite Eight. Then, comes the Final Four, or the Semifinal’s. If you win that you go to the National NCAA Championship. If you win then you are the National NCAA Champions, or the best college basketball team in the country!!! The next year you have the number one seed as well. This is the basic information you need to know for March Madness.

College Basketball and March Madness

By: Cameron K.

Well we are almost done with College Basketball, but it is not done yet! We need to wait for the be-ginning of March to see who will be in the NCAA Tournament. Gonzaga is still undefeated and has-n’t lost a game. The last time Gonzaga lost a game was the Sweet 16 against Syracuse in the 2016 NCAA Tournament. Well Coach K. is back from his back surgery and Duke is doing good with Coach K. back on the sidelines. They haven’t lost a game since!

Saint Patrick's Day Traditions

By Julia T.

One of the many Saint Patrick's Day tradi-tions is wearing green or shamrocks. The reason for this is because Saint Patrick used a shamrock, which is green, to explain the Holy Trinity to the pa-gan Irish. Another tradition is pinching others who are not wearing green or shamrocks. Saint Patrick revelers believed that when you wore green, you would become visible to leprechauns. ¨Fairy pinch-ers¨ would pinch people not wearing green, be-cause they were visible to them. People started to pinch people not wearing green as a reminder that leprechauns would sneak up and pinch people who were not wearing green.

Fun Facts You need to know about March By: Kayla M.

Did you know that March is named after Mars. March was named for war - and lives up to it’s title. It was on 15 March 44B.C that Julius Caesar was assassinated in the Senate chamber in Rome – the assassination was led by Marcus Junius Brutus. It was in March 1889 that the Eiffel Tower was offi-cially opened to the public. It was the tallest building in the world for 41 years before being surpassed by the Chrysler Building. An old proverb says, “March comes in a like a lion, and goes out like a lamb,” which is reference to win-ter ending and spring beginning. Another popular saying is "March is mad as a hare," which is a refer-ence to the animals fighting each other.

Top 5 Upcoming Games in 2017!!!

By: Coy K.

There are some great games coming up for 2017, here are five games that I am most excited about.

5. Sniper Elite 4—

Sniper elite 3 was an excellent game that immersed you into a behind enemy lines setting, and you had specific missions you had to complete. Your sniper being your main weapon, you had a choice of sneaking, or going in guns-a-blazin’. Sniper Elite 4 is a tactical stealth game that I have high hopes for. 4. Horizon Zero Dawn— A lush, post-apocalyptic game, with some of the best graphics ever seen, this game’s setting is a destroyed hidden civilization that bustle with hunter-gatherer tribes, that have been usurped by “The Machines”, fearsome mechanical creatures with unknown origins. 3. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard—

Resident Evil 7 goes back to its predecessors and brings back immense horror, instead of action packed adventure. This game really was critically acclaimed for its story, setup, graphics, gameplay, and design. This game really is great, and it blew the socks off of most people. 2. Outlast 2—

Outlast terrified everyone, it was easily one of the scariest games ever made, but it still drew atten-tion, and people loved it. With its gruesome outlook, this game really left people with nightmares, so now that we have confirmation of Outlast 2, people get to experience more terrifying experiences, but with more immersive gameplay, and even better graphics. 1. Red Dead Redemption 2—

Red Dead Redemption 2 is probably one of the most anticipated games of 2017. Its first game, Red Dead Redemption, received a 9.7/10, which makes it one of the best games of its time. It had revo-lutionary graphics, a perfect story, and some of the best game mechanics. RDR 2 has to be good, or its backlash will be unbelievable. What do you guys think of my list? Do you agree? Be sure to tell me if you don’t and what games should not have, or should have, been on this list. Thanks for reading!

Why Stephan Curry Is Not Doing The 3 Point Competition

By: Elijah S.

On February 19th the NBA will have its biggest weekend of all. All Star Weekend will feature things like The Slam Dunk Event, The Three Point Competition, The Taco Bell Skills challenge, The Celebrity All-Stars game. However, this weekend will be different for four main reasons. For Starters Stephen Curry will not take part in the Three Point Competition. Second “Cupcake”, aka Kevin Du-rant will be playing with Russell Westbrook as teammates again. After signing with the Warriors and leaving the Thunder just after blowing a 3-1 lead to the Warriors. Third Russell Westbrook, The peo-ple's champion will not be starting in the All Star game even though he averages a triple double *a triple double is when one player records double digits in three categories such as points, assist and rebounds. Lastly Zach Lavine will not be competing in the Slam Dunk Contest to defend his title.
