ANN DOWNIEto The Masonic Home,
December 11, 2015, and is Sponsored by Hillsborough Lodge No. 25. She resides in Room 209B. Ann’s Birthday is October 28th! Ann was born in Athens, Tennessee. Her father was a “Jack of all Trades”, and her mother was a homemaker and Teacher. She had a brother and sister who are now deceased. Ann remembers fondly, Eleanor, her childhood friend. They were always together going swimming, horseback riding, and visiting Eleanor’s cabin on a lake where they enjoyed boating. Ann graduated from High School and attended the University of Knoxville, Tennes-see. She received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. She taught 7th and 8th grades. Ann met her future husband, Charlie, at a nightclub in Jacksonville. He was from Georgia and was an All-Star athlete in High School and College. He worked as a Physical Education and Driving Training teacher. They taught at schools in different towns. They were married in 1961, and had a son, Charles Jr. Ann worked for Eastern Airlines as an Airlines Reservationist for 25 years, while Charlie worked for the Sheriff’s Department. Ann was a Member of Ladies of the Nile and Charlie was a 33rd Degree Mason. They lived a fascinating life together! They traveled the world 3 times to Europe, Mexico, Hawaii, and throughout the United States. Ann was in a Bridge Club she played Bridge weekly. Ann states, “I love being with people, I consider myself to be a Socialite!” Charlie resided in the Nursing Center for a short period, while Ann visited him often. They were married 65 years. Later Ann moved to the Wellness Center. There she made new friends quickly, attending all the table games, Exercise Class, Musical Shows, parties, and Chapel Services. She also loves going on the monthly Lunch outings, sitting with her friends, laughing while enjoying their cocktails. Ann always takes pride in her appearance and she is coordinated with fashionable jewelry and loves getting a manicure. Ann’s son visits often from Tampa, and they also talk on the cell phone. She has two granddaughters, Kelsey and Morgan, and her friends visit often. Ann continues to participate in her favorite game of Poker, and goes to many of the events and special programs. She also enjoys watching television and going to her regular Beauty Salon appointments. Congratulations Ann, on being our first 2018 Resident of the month! May you have a wonderful New Year! We wish for you, all great things in the year ahead!
"Drop the last year into the silent limbo of the past. Let it go, for it was imperfect, and thank God that it can
go." Brooks Atkinson "Youth is when you're allowed to stay
up late on New Year's Eve. Middle age is when you're forced to."
Bill Vaughn "An optimist stays up until midnight to see the New Year in. A pessimist stays up to make sure the old year
leaves." Bill Vaughn "Making resolutions is a cleansing
ritual of self assessment and repent-ance that demands personal honesty and, ultimately, reinforces humility. Breaking them is part of the cycle."
Eric Zorn "New Year's Day is every man's
birthday." Charles Lamb "Cheers to a New Year and another
chance for us to get it right." Oprah Winfrey
Year's Day now is the accepted time to make your regular annual good
resolutions. Next week you can begin paving hell with them as usual."
Mark Twain "Many people look forward to the New Year for a new start on old
habits." Anon. "May all your troubles last as long as
your New Year's resolutions!" Joey Adams
"Good resolutions are simply checks that men draw on a bank where they
have no account." Oscar Wilde
