If you cannot relate to anything you’ve read so far — STOP.

There is nothing in this report that will interest you. You have either found thePERFECT situation in life, or you’re too blind to realize the situation you’re in.

Hi, we’re George Dooley and Maria Harrison.

Within the last 18 months, we’ve each left the dailydrudgery of successful International Marketing careers,in the Corporate World, in order to regain control overour lives and pursue our own ambitions.

Firing our respective bosses was not an easydecision. We first had to agree that we did indeed wantmore out of life than a job and a paycheck.

After that we had to find a way to replace TWO corporate incomes. After anextensive search, we found Network Marketing, and it works.

Sure, we still work more than 40+ hours a week, but now it’s on OUR schedule.

Living on the beautiful coast of Maine, it’s not unusual for us to start the daywith a “staff meeting” conducted while walking five miles on the beach. Duringthe winter, our “corporate, physical exercise program” consists of teachinghandicapped skiing, as often as two days a week.

Making money is no longer the issue. Enjoying life, our families and friends is.

If you’re still reading — Why Network Marketing?

Page 3: The Little Known Secret To Fire Your Boss And Get An

First of all what is network marketing?

Nearly everyone has been involved in network marketing all their lives, theyjust don’t know it. Have you ever read a good book, eaten at a great restaurant,or seen an excellent movie? Did you tell anyone?

If you did, then you are a network marketer. The only problem is that younever got paid to help promote that book, restaurant or movie.

Network marketing is simply the movement of products or services from themanufacturer or producer to the end user via word of mouth marketing. It isconversational marketing.

For example, you use the products that are typically better than those you canfind in a retail store. If you like them and get results, you tell other people.

If they also want to use a product, you make arrangements with yourcompany to get it for them. In exchange for making this arrangement, yournetwork marketing company will pay you a commission.

MULTI-LEVEL MARKETING VS. NETWORK MARKETING

Many people ask, “What is the difference between multi-level marketing(MLM) and network marketing?” Some people in the marketing industry saythey are the same thing, others believe it’s different.

The key difference is how marketers alignthemselves with the parent company.

In MLM, multiple levels of people buy products from each other and get paidby each other. Amway and Shaklee are good examples of MLM companies.

3

Page 4: The Little Known Secret To Fire Your Boss And Get An

Only distributors who have reached a leadership level are contracted directlywith the company to purchase products and receive checks. Everyone below buysfrom the leader at a slightly higher price, which results in a wholesale profit forthe leader. The company pays bonuses to the leader, and the leader redistributesto the distributors below.

Network marketing is different.

Everyone who signs up is contracted directly to the company. They all purchaseproducts directly from the company at the same price and receive their bonus checksdirectly from the company. The arrangement is closer to franchising than MLM.

This system eliminates the need for big inventories and sophisticatedbookkeeping systems, thus saving the new network marketer both time andmoney. Service companies such as EXCEL Communications have successfullyimplemented this business model for over 15 years.

ILLEGAL PYRAMID SCHEMES

One of the most common questions you will hear is, “Isn’t this one of thosepyramid schemes?”

When it comes right down to it, all businesses are pyramids.

The person at the top of the pyramid makes the most money, and workers atthe bottom, who do much of the work, make a little bit of money.

Do all the workers have the opportunity to rise to the top? Yes, one at a time. The government is a pyramid. There is nothing wrong with a pyramid. It is oneof the strongest structures in the world.

4

Page 5: The Little Known Secret To Fire Your Boss And Get An

What these people are really asking is, “Isn’t this an illegal pyramid?”

According to state laws, a business venture is an illegal pyramid if a personreceives monetary consideration for recruiting people, and if the new recruitsmust also make an investment and receive monetary consideration.

A good example of an illegal pyramid is the chain letter where you send $5 toeach of the five listed names, move everyone up, put your name in the #5 slot andmail out 1000 flyers.

There is an investment (with nothing of value received in exchange) andmonetary consideration for recruiting. All 50 states have laws and regulationsregarding multi-level or network marketing.

Legal MLM or Network Marketing Companies

These companies offer a legitimate product or service. The company’s productor service can be sold to earn a retail profit. The company will also allow peopleto recruit and sponsor other people into the program.

Marketers receive no compensation until people buy products from thecompany, whether for their own use or to sell. Typically, people joining an MLMor network marketing company will purchase a starter kit. This kit containstraining materials, brochures, forms, video and audio tapes. The contents of thiskit must be worth at least the cost of the kit and should not contain products.

The requirement to purchase a large inventory of products up front is called“front loading” and is considered to be an investment by the State AttorneyCouncil, which may make the company an illegal pyramid scheme.

It is best to look for a company that stresses the distribution of products orservices. This type of company lessens its changes of being investigated, as apossible illegal pyramid by the State Attorney General or scrutinized by the media.

What’s The Future Of Network Marketing?

Business analysts such as Robert Allen, author of Creating Wealth, and WayneMcIlvane, consultant and former marketing director for McCann Ericksonadvertising agency, agree that network marketing is the wave of the future.

Economist Paul Zane Pilzer, author of Unlimited Wealth, expects network-marketing sales to double every three to five years.

The Direct Selling Association (DSA) — www.dsa.org — described later, indicatesthat worldwide the direct selling industry accounts for sales of more than $80 billiona year, and that the industry is rapidly approaching the $100 billion mark.

The United States direct selling market is approximately $30 billion, up from$14 billion in 1992. Japan’s market is similar to the U.S., while Germany andFrance are $3.5 billion each. In South America, Brazil and Mexico each have adirect selling market of approximately $3 billion.

Business analysts such as Burke Hedges, author of Who Stole the AmericanDream, are comparing the growth patterns of network marketing to those offranchising. Over 40 years ago, franchising was a revolutionary new system thatpeople hated. The media called it a scam and a rip-off.

The papers were filled with stories about people who had lost their lifesavings in a franchise. Major Fortune 500 companies involved in franchising triedto conceal their identity. Hedges, in his book, indicates that there was even astrong movement to outlaw franchising.

Today, franchising contributes over one-third of the Gross National Product.

Why the change? A man named Ray, with a dream. He dreamed abouthamburger restaurants with golden arches in every city throughout the US. Raybelieved in that dream and went on the road to sell it.

6

Page 7: The Little Known Secret To Fire Your Boss And Get An

He sold his initial franchises for $500 to $1000 each, and many people turnedhim down saying it was a pyramid scheme. In hindsight, how many of thoseMcDonald’s franchises would you have bought?

Business consultants such a Marc Barrett are saying that network marketing iswhere franchising was about 15 years ago, going into its second stage of growth.

During this stage, the network marketing industry will experience populargrowth or momentum.

During the popular growth stage, an industry becomes so popular thatalmost everyone is impacted in some way or another. It is during this stage thatnetwork marketing, now being called the people’s franchise by nearly allinvolved, will eclipse franchising.

Network Marketing will become the most powerfulway to reach consumers in the 21st century.

The number of network marketing distributors worldwide — both part-time andfull-time — is nearly 35 million. Of that, 10 to 12 million are in the Unites States.

According to the Direct Selling Association, 150,000 people worldwide join anetwork marketing company each week.

Within two years of its startup in China, Tianshi, which sells Chinese herbs, attracted 3.5 million distributors. Within a year of expanding into Russia, thecompany added another 40,000 distributors.

A boom market is awaiting network marketing in India and Southeast Asia.

A SERVICE-BASED ECONOMY

One reason for the bright future of network marketing in the U.S. is thecountry’s evolution from a production-based to a service-based economy.Network marketing is the growth industry of the future because it best fits thisemerging society. More people now work in the white collar segment of theeconomy than in the blue collar.

Economists, such as Paul Pilzer, say that distributionis the secret to wealth in the future.

A service-based economy depends on efficient distribution. Networkmarketing is the easiest way for average people to get involved in distribution.

A good example is the way EXCEL Communications, and its parentcompany, Vartec Teleco, have grown to be the world’s largest privately heldtelecom company by employing network marketing as a distribution channelthroughout the U.S. and Europe.

Deregulation of National Utilities

In 1984 the U.S. Supreme Court broke-up “The Telephone Company.” Thisaction marked the beginning of the end for National utility monopolies aroundthe world. As Long Distance and, now, local telephone service are de-regulated,demand for high quality service at an affordable price is exploding.

Customers longing for an alternative are eager to try new providers.

This pent-up demand, coupled with his company’s legendary servicecommitment, are two of the reasons Joe Mitchell, CEO of EXCEL Communications, has expressed his belief that the company will grow from its current position ofapproximately $3 billion to over $10 billion within the next five years.

COCOONINGBest-selling author, Faith Popcorn, discussed in her book, The Popcorn Report, a

number of new trends that are changing the face of business. Several of these willcontribute to the growth of network marketing. The first is called “cocooning.”

More and more Americans are seeking the comfortsof their home, auto and office cocoons.

CNN reported that a home-based business is started every 60 seconds in theU.S. This rise in the number of home-based businesses shows how dramaticallythe cocooning phenomenon is affecting American business.

Home delivery, television shopping networks, mail order shopping, and nowonline computer shopping make it possible for people to accomplish many oftheir daily chores without leaving their homes.

They would prefer to pick up the phone, mail or fax an order, or to touch a fewkeys on their personal computer to order the things they need and want.

The products are delivered safely to their door and generally offer a noquestion, 100% money-back guarantee. This is exactly what network marketingcompanies offer — a color catalog full of high-quality products and services thatcan be ordered toll-free on your credit card and will be delivered within a coupleof days — 100% guaranteed.

CASHING OUTYou can find even more evidence that Americans are turning to network

marketing as a popular new career choice. Popcorn further writes that the babyboom generation, because of the glut of middle management and corporatedownsizing, is cashing out.

9

Page 10: The Little Known Secret To Fire Your Boss And Get An

They are leaving the corporate world by the tens of thousands to start home-based businesses. People want to experience less work-related stress, and spendmore time with their families.

People are seeking time, freedom and financial security.

Because baby boomers number 76 million in the U.S., and one billionworldwide, this is a major phenomenon that will last for several decades.

WHY NETWORK MARKETING?Why are so many of the baby boomers choosing network marketing? Consider

some of these benefits:

■ A home-based business

■ A business with national and international scope

■ A business involved in distribution — one of the most important facets ofa service-based economy

■ Minimal start-up costs, often less than $500

■ Almost no risk (when associates with an established company)

■ A business you can operate part-time or full-time

■ A business with no employees and minimal overhead

■ No inventory or collections for example: EXCEL Communications

■ The possibility of financial security and the time freedom to enjoy life

10

Page 11: The Little Known Secret To Fire Your Boss And Get An

What other business offers this list of benefits?

Most network marketing companies offer comprehensive training andsupport, so you don’t even need to know how to run a business. Networkmarketing offers you a way to take control of your financial future.

When you work for someone else, you get paidfor what other people think you are worth.

You trade your time for other people’s money. Unfortunately, you don’t haveenough time to make enough money to create long-term financial security or anylevel of freedom with your time.

A traditional job or business only allows you to earn money based on yourefforts, or the efforts of a few closely managed employees.

Network marketing offers you the ability to leverage your time by findingother people to work with you. If you build a large network, you can earnbonuses based on the efforts of thousands of downline distributors.

The best part is that you don’t have to invest any more time — this is called“time leverage.”

Your sponsor, the person who introduced you to the network marketingopportunity, will help you become successful. You, in turn, will do the same forthe people you sponsor.

Why? The simple beauty of network marketing is that, in order for you to besuccessful, you must help you downline to be successful.

In general, that’s the reverse of the corporate mentality.

11

Page 12: The Little Known Secret To Fire Your Boss And Get An

Many distributors consider network marketing to be an excellent personalgrowth experience.

As a network marketer, you will learn how to run a successful smallbusiness, how to work with all types of people, improve your communicationskills, learn to speak in public, establish some successful habits, and all thewhile have a heck of a lot of fun.

Network marketing is challenging, rewarding and difficult, and at timesfrustrating. It’s a simple business model, but not necessarily an easy one.

However, you will probably have more fun and meet more great, positivepeople in network marketing than in all your years in either the corporate ortraditional business world.

Will network marketing work for you?

When we completed the final draft of this report we sent it to our friend andmentor Alex Mandossian for his critique. His suggestion on this section was toinsert an example from Napoleon Hill’s classic Think And Grow Rich. Afterreading the book I realize that the best example from the book, is the book itself.

If you’re serious about making a better life for you and your family, you must read Napoleon Hill’s Think and Grow Rich.

Don’t wait to add it to your “must-read list.” Go to the nearest bookstore orlibrary and read it now.

You may find it to be the best business decision you’ve every made.

12

Page 13: The Little Known Secret To Fire Your Boss And Get An

It’s Totally Up To You.

Of the hundreds of thousands of people who enter network marketing eachyear, only 10% will ever make any money. This statistic may seem low, however, it is in line with the number of small businesses that remain inbusiness after three years.

Why do so many small business have to drop-out? One reason is that manypeople who enter network marketing should not have been sponsored into thebusiness in the first place.

Success in Network Marketing boils down to just one thing —Your Desire.

If you dream big and are willing to do whatever it takes over the next threeto five years, network marketing will work for you. There are no guaranteesin this business.

In network marketing, you don’t need a hugesum of money to buy success.

You only need a WHY — that one, over-powering, all-consuming reasonWHY you want network marketing to work for you.

Do you believe?

If your belief system is solid — in yourself, your product and your company —then Network Marketing will work for you.

Belief is the mantra of a successful network marketer.

13

Page 14: The Little Known Secret To Fire Your Boss And Get An

Are you coachable?

The wheel has been invented; all the mistakes have been made. If you arewilling to be coached and to learn from those who invented the wheel andalready made the mistakes — network marketing will work for you.

Understanding the Money Issue

Most people work for a linear income. Webster defines linear as “long andnarrow.” That gives you a perfect picture of linear income. Linear income isthe financial reward you receive from your employer. The company pays youwhat they think you are worth. Rarely does that figure agree with what youthink you’re worth.

However, that’s all you’re going to get. Thus, your income is “narrow.”

Most of us work for over 40 years. Unfortunately, with a linear income thepay doesn’t always increase as much as we feel it should. To add insult to injury, once we stop working the income stops as well.

Enter Network Marketing’s big difference — Residual Income

Residual income means being paid for what you start, not what you do.

Elvis Presley died in 1977. While he was alive, whenever one of his recordswas played on a radio station, Elvis received a royalty — a commission of sorts.

Imagine the pile of money earned, as thousands of stations around the worldaired his songs. Since his death, the estate of Elvis continues to receive a royaltyeach time one of his songs is played on the radio anywhere.

His estate has already earned more money from thisresidual income than Elvis earned while he was alive.

14

Page 15: The Little Known Secret To Fire Your Boss And Get An

Residual income is what helps many people in network marketing make apile of money.

Here is a simple explanation of how residual income is generated in networkmarketing. Let’s say you sponsor three people to join your business. You will earna small amount on whatever they sell, for as long as they sell it.

In network marketing, your teaching skill is even more important than yourselling skill. Teach your three new business partners to gather customers for yourcompany, and like you, each find three business partners.

If you taught them well, you now have an organization of nine business partners.

As this process continues, and it NEVER works out in perfect geometricprogression, after a period of time you’ll have 80, 300, even 1,200 or more in yourdownline or organization.

You’ll earn a little from whatever each person in your organization sells ortheir customers buy, as long as they sell it or the customer buys it.

In some companies, such as EXCEL Communications, this income is willable.Your heirs, like those of Elvis, will continue to benefit from what you started.

That’s residual income.

INVESTIGATE BEFORE YOU INVEST.

Selecting a network marketing company is similar to buying a car. In bothsituations, you have a wide array of choices. So many choices, in fact, that you caneasily get confused with all the features, benefits and prices. Your first decisionshould be to narrow the field.

15

Page 16: The Little Known Secret To Fire Your Boss And Get An

Do you want an SUV, sedan, van or pickup? After you’ve determined theclass of vehicle, you can then look more closely at the offering of the variousmanufacturers. You can’t drive them all.

It’s the same process in selecting a network marketing opportunity.

First, you must determine which industry interests you. The Direct SellingAssociation classifies the market into five industry segments:

■ Personal Care products — cleaning products, cutlery , cookware, etc.

■ Home & Family Care Products — skin care, cosmetics, jewelry, etc.

■ Wellness products — vitamins, weight loss, nutritional supplements, etc.

■ Service & Utilities — telecommunications, electricity, Internet services, training, etc

■ Educational & Leisure products — books, toys, games, etc.

All of these industries use network marketing as a distribution channel. Youhave to decide which one grabs you. Where do you see a future and career?

Maria and I chose utilities. You can see us at www.SlashMyTelephoneBill.com.Why? We’re both marketers and trainers.

We don’t consider ourselves salespersons.

With a utility business, we feel, we don’t have to convince someone to changetheir buying habits. The customer is already using the service.

We are merely providing them the opportunity to: know who they are dealingwith, get Nordstrom-quality customer service and, most likely, get a better pricefor something they use everyday.

16

Page 17: The Little Known Secret To Fire Your Boss And Get An

Once you’ve narrowed the decision to an industry, you still have to select thecompany. This decision is even more important than the first, as there are manygood companies in each industry segment.

Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is tonow find the company for you.

CAUTION — the wrong one may self-destruct in 30 seconds. Networkmarketing is over 50 years old. Since then more than 15,000 networkmarketing companies have legally opened for business. ONLY 30 haveremained in business for more than 10 years. Amway, Mary Kay, andEXCEL Communications are among the strongest survivors.

Study these great companies. If you’re not joining one of them, you shouldfind one that mirrors their ethics and commitment to both customer satisfactionand distributor support.

The Direct Selling Association (DSA) — www.dsa.org — posts a list of itsmembers. This may help you identify other great companies.

Of the over 1,000 network marketing companies in the U.S., only 200 qualifyfor membership in the DSA. This is due to the association not sellingmemberships, but rather allowing companies to EARN it by adhering to theDSA’s stringent Code of Values.

DSA applicants undergo a year-long review of their marketing plans, businesspractices, products and policies before being accepted into the organization.

Joining a DSA Member company can greatly improve, although notguarantee, your long-term potential for success.

17

Page 18: The Little Known Secret To Fire Your Boss And Get An

As you evaluate the various companies that spark your interest, keep inmind the following questions that may help you sort through the “features andbenefits” of each:

■ Is the company’s motivation “get-rich-quick” or “long-term growth?”

■ Does the philosophy of the company match your personal beliefs?

■ Do you get a positive feeling whenever you’re around people who workfor the company?

■ Do you know who the owners are?

■ What is the experience of the corporate leadership?

■ Will this business opportunity provide you with a way to make a differencein people’s lives, whether they are customers or business partners?

■ What’s the company’s track record?

■ Are its products or services relevant, timely, high-quality andcompetitively priced?

■ Do you like the long-term potential of the company?

■ Would you like to work for this company as an employee?

■ Are you willing to tie your reputation to that of the company?

■ If you are successful with this opportunity, will it provide you with therewards you seek, be it money, time or things?

Once you have selected an industry and identified potential companies, now what?

18

Page 19: The Little Known Secret To Fire Your Boss And Get An

Can YOU do THIS business?

In network marketing there is a saying, “the Company is IN the Industry.” Forexample, EXCEL Communications is in the Telecommunications industry. You, asthe distributor, are in the People Business.

While this is basically true, you may want to have some association with yourcompany’s product or service. Select a company that will offer you sufficienttraining in both its products and services and your business.

If you’ve read this far, you are probably the type of person who hasthe attitude that you can do anything you set their mind to.

We agree.

So, how much training will be required for you learn your new business?Network marketing distribution was designed with the philosophy “keep it simple.”

People learn by various means. Some people learn better by doing, others byseeing or hearing, others still by reading. The company’s training programshould address each of these different learning styles.

Most importantly, your training skills should be up to the task of duplicatingand supplementing the training provided by your company and teaching othersto do the same. The three most important factors of Network marketing are:duplication, duplication, and duplication.

Duplication is the key to incredible residual incomes.

You cannot be successful unless your organization below you is successful. When you select a company, be sure that company, and your sponsor, has aproven, duplicable system for training and recruiting.

19

Page 20: The Little Known Secret To Fire Your Boss And Get An

Show Me The Money

“How much money can I make?” Isn’t this one of the reasons yourequested this report in the first place? A hustler may answer that questionwith “as much as you want.”

The honest answer is far more complex. Much depends on the limitation, ifany, of a company’s compensation plan. Network marketing is not a “get-rich-quick scheme.” It’s more like a “get-rich-slow opportunity.”

Not everyone in network marketing will become a millionaire.

Your goal for this business venture may be to earn just a few hundreddollars each month, part-time. When you achieve that position, you will besuccessful in network marketing.

A major difference between traditional compensation and network marketingis that YOU set the standard by which you judge your own performance.

Can millions be made? Certainly, and in very rare cases, millions are made ona monthly basis.

How is that possible?

In a traditional pay system, a person typically earns an hour’s pay for an hourworked. Salaried individuals receive a defined amount over a certain period oftime, i.e. $40,000 per year.

If you are commissioned you’ll receive a set percentage for your efforts. As anexample, a realtor may receive 3% on the selling price of a house.

These are all linear incomes.

20

Page 21: The Little Known Secret To Fire Your Boss And Get An

Remember, network marketers earn residual incomes.

First, they get paid multiple times for the same transaction. For example, withour network marketing business — www.SlashMyTelephoneBill.com — Mariaand I earn a small commission each month as our customers pay their utility bill.

We don’t have to go back and resell them on using that utility each month.

As long as our customer remains our customer, we earn a commission.

Second, network marketers get paid not only for their own efforts, but also onthe results of their downline organization.

As described earlier, as an organization grows — usually through effectivetraining and recruiting — network marketers receive a commission on all of theefforts of their organization.

The growth of our own network marketing organization in Europe is a classicnetwork-marketing story. In October 2002, our network marketing companyexpanded into Germany.

Having contacts there, Maria and I went over and sponsored two people.

Since then, the organization in Germany has grown to over 200 distributorsand thousands of customers in three countries. As a result, each month we earn acommission on the telephone service bills of all of the customers gathered by thatgrowing organization.

Network marketing compensation plans are based on you receiving a smallpercentage from the efforts of many rather than 100% of the efforts of one.

21

Page 22: The Little Known Secret To Fire Your Boss And Get An

Should you decide that network marketing is for you, don’t be concernedwhen you don’t understand the compensation plan the first time it’s shown toyou. Most people don’t understand it for months after joining a company.

Some will never understand it. However as long as the checks arrive, thosepeople don’t care.

Even if you don’t completely understand a company’s compensation plan, here are a few questions to help you decide if it’s the plan for you:

■ What are the monthly purchase requirements? Some companies requireyou to spend considerable amounts on their products or service in order tomaintain a certain discount level. Fall below these levels and your discountpercent drops as well.

■ Do you get paid only for recruiting business partners, or for recruitingbusiness partners who gather customers for the company’s products orservices? If you get paid for only for recruiting — BEWARE — It may bea pyramid scheme.

■ Is the potential reward worth the effort? Remember in network marketingyou’re successful only if your downline is successful. As a sponsor, are youwilling to invest the time and energy it will take to maintain and grow asuccessful organization?

■ Will the lack of effort of a member of your downline affect yourcompensation? If a downline distributor doesn’t meet the monthlyrequirements for a commission check will you be penalized as well?

■ How often does the company introduce special incentives into thecompensation plan? Incentive plans add new life to any marketing effort.Effective incentives throughout the year keeps any organization alive.

22

Page 23: The Little Known Secret To Fire Your Boss And Get An

■ Do you know what you need to do to get promoted in the organization? Are the requirements published? Are they attainable? How many havemanaged to reach the top of the organization? If none, and that companyhas been in business for a few years, you might want to look elsewhere.

The final steps to “Fire Your Boss and Get An InstantPay Raise Month After Month”

Before you put down your hard-earned money to invest in the financial futureof you and your family, get the answers to the following:

■ Does the company explain in terms that you understand what volume ofactivity is that you must maintain in order to receive a residual income,be it bonus or commission, from your own efforts as well as the effortsof your downline?

■ If this will initially be a part-time effort on your part, does the compensationplan support other than full-time distributors?

■ If you’re looking at entering network marketing full-time, will thecompensation plan quickly provide you with the money you need to meetyour financial obligations?

■ Do you expect the company or your upline to recruit an organization foryou? Or are you ready and willing to put in the time and effort needed tobe successful?

■ Do you have the support and understanding of your family members bothchildren and spouse? Without it, this will be a very short career.
