Bismaar Ghar (Withering House) Synopsis:A house gives us a sense of belonging. It envelopes us and protects us. It is a symbol of the time, the culture, and the beings that it inhabits. A house has a unique identity, like a living, breathing being. Each one different, with its own perks and glitches. Bismaar Ghar is an observational piece about Maheshbhai, Tarunaben, Ganpatbhai, and their house. Living in a hundred-year old house for the past 20 years in the heart of Ahmedabad, they have decided to move on to a new apartment they got under the Prime Minister's Housing Scheme. With changing times and circumstances, are are moving towards a strange kind of uniformity under the shadow of ‘urbanism’ and ‘development’? Or our traditional structures are failing to cater our needs anymore? All these questions are visible in our most personal embodiment - our house. Amey Hundre, Samarjitsinh Wagela & Aniket Patil from TAD 2015 batch, who participated in the EV Mobility Design Contest hosted by Association for the Promotion of Electric Vehicles (APEV)-2017, Japan made it to the top 6 in the finals; the event was held at Tokyo Big Sight in south Tokyo (the same venue where 45th Tokyo Motor Show was held) on 4th November 2017.Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts,China, won the Grand Prize, and our TAD team was awarded the Sponsorship Award from "Car Design Academy' for overall concept. there were a total of 96 entries from 34 schools for the contest, from around the world and after 3 levels of screening, only the top 10 teams were invited to 'go live' with their final presentation. Her trainer and expert for the skill is Mr. Anthony Lopez, Founder of Lopez Design, also a NID alumni. After an all India selection process, she will now compete at the WorldSkills Competition, Abu Dhabi 2017.WorldSkills India is an initiative of the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. The WorldSkills is a Skill Olympics that has 77 competing countries in 51 skills categories. It is the global hub for skills excellence and development. Through international cooperation and development between industry, government, organizations, and institutions, it promotes the benefits of and need for skilled professionals through grass-roots community projects, skill competitions, and knowledge exchange.The selection process under WorldSkills India is a tedious process and comprises of the following competition levels- District Skill, State Skill, Regional Skill, National/India Skill and finally World Skill Competition. Date: 12th to 16th June 2017. The certificate was given on behalf of the International program committee Anna Puig and Tobias Isenberg (Poster Co-chair). For the poster her guides were Chakradhar Saswade and Dr. Aneesha Sharma. Project Description: While exploring on the topics which have been seen as the social stigma, for example, depression, I stumbled upon this club which consists of musicians and artists who died at the age of 27. This unique age captured my attention and I started exploring more on the topic. The 27 Club is a term that refers to a number of popular musicians who died at age 27, often as a result of drug and alcohol abuse, or violent means such as homicide or suicide. The number of musicians who have died at this age and the circumstances of many of those deaths has given rise to the idea that premature deaths at this age are unusually common. There have been many different speculations about the causes of such early deaths and their possible connections. NID's participation in 11th SIAM Design & Styling conclave, Goa on 17th Feb.2017. Theme of this year's conference was 'Design for tech-enabled tomorrow' and speakers from TATA motors-UK studio, PSA Peugeot-France, Royal Enfield-UK studio, SAMSUNG, TATA Elxsi and senior designers from Mahindra, Ashok Leyland, TATA motors, Honda, TVS amongst other joined. The conference also provides an opportunity for industry-academia collaborations, giving platform to young design students to showcase their creative talents. Since its inceptions NID students have been making consistent performance in this national level automotive design challenge (ADC) and in the current year as well there were 4 students from NID who were selected in Top10.This year all Top-3 awards have come to NID students, winning cash prizes and trophies. Project brief: Rebirth of the Auto industry - 2030 'Driverless Vehicles' .Winner.Swapnil Desai (FID). ZIP is a compact city car which sneaks through all the rush of the city by changing its form. Its a personal mobility vehicle which caters the needs of tomorrows young generation who are very experimental and explore boundaries beyond their cities. 4th annual design competition organized by Honeywell aerospace India studio Provide an opportunity for students from a variety of design backgrounds (HCI, industrial design, product design, visual design, interaction design, etc.) to participate and demonstrate their problem solving and design skills for aerospace industry. Themes: Designing trustworthy & reassuring experiences towards enhanced Situational Awareness for communication, Navigation and surveillance. The second price is Gopro Hero 5 session. The objective of the Honeywell Aerospace Design Challenge 2017 was to design trustworthy and reassuring experiences to enhance situational awareness for communication, navigation and surveillance (CNS). The team Hotel_Sierra (Harshika Jain and Salil Parekh from NID, Ahmedabad) and have proposed solutions for Surveillance and Communication for the Air Traffic Control and Pilots such their situational awareness is enhanced and hence, passengers feel that they are safe and in trustworthy hands. We spoke to Air Traffic Controllers and pilots and visited the ATC tower in Delhi and Ahmedabad to understand what they think could enhance their performance and have got their feedback on the solutions we have proposed. The Surveillance solution includes 3D view of the currently existing 2D radar in the traffic control room and night vision from the ATC tower for a better view to direct planes to alight and land efficiently and with more safety. The communication solution includes accent correction with artificial intelligence when pilots and ATC communicate. These proposed solutions will work in conjugation with each other and work as assistive tools in the operations of the ATC and pilots. Kotha:This film is about an old, childless couple, coming to terms with their desperation for reconciliation with each other after an ugly fight; something that does not occur between them, often. One argument leads to the other, revealing their baser insecurities and they end up saying things they do not really mean. The wife makes an absurd stipulation to make peace with her husband, involving a third character - the pet parrot. How absurd is her demand? And to what length will they go to meet it?The film is presented as a slice of life in its mundaneness and attractiveness. The audience breathes a comfortable air as they see and hear the conversations unravel. The flavour of their relationship is eased in through the subtle humour in the dialogues. Silence plays a pivotal role in accentuating the missing conversations between the couple after their fight.Shoumini Ghosh Roy (FVC) won Silver (Fiction) Award at 8th Cut.In Students’ Film Festival at/by the School of Media & Cultural Studies, TISS, Mumbai. The Bird Feeder and Bath was designed as a garden accessory for foreign tourists. It was realized in collaboration with local clay artisans. As the target market is foreign tourists, the product needs to be transported across countries and hence should be easy to stack and transport. Inspired by the geometry in nature, various concepts were developed keeping in mind portability and stack-ability. The final concept of the bird feeder can be assembled in different ways to suit the functionality and aesthetics as per the requirement of the user.

Girish Krishnan and Prateekshankar Dixit, TGD (Team PrettyBlack) won the Student Game of the Year 2014 at the NASSCOM Gaming Forum Awards with their board game Squ. The awards were held during NASSCOM-Game Developers Conference 2014 at Pune. They were the only physical board game, competing against other Digital Games in the category. Two students of National Institute of Design (NID) have bagged the top prize in an all India student competition, 'Kitchenext' that asked for entries to design an Indian modular kitchen fit for 2020. Anamika Singh and Akshit Dhiman, furniture and interior design students of NID, mentored by their faculty Prof Pravinsinh Solanki, came up with a futuristic Indian modular kitchen design that would be interactive and out of the box. In the winning concept, the tiles on the walls of a kitchen will be replaced by a glass panel similar to that on your mobile phone. A transparent touch display will be provided by an android platform, which can be accessed by an iPad also. He was also felicitated at the contest. The competition, organized by Snehal Vasani's Kitchen Grace, was judged by Gajanan Upadhyay, architect and furniture designer, Prof Krishna Shastri, dean, faculty of design, Cept University, John Matthew, head of design, Dovetail Furniture, Prof Vasudha Karhadkar, head, interior space and equipment design and MIT Institute of Design among others.The top entries will soon get prototyped with required manufacturing support. The competition invites designers to reuse the Briccola wood from the oak posts of Venice, transforming them into pieces of furniture. The brief was to use the Briccole posts from the Venetian lagoons and design a table out of them. These oak posts get worn out by tiny molluscs and need to be replaced periodically. Multiple issues relating to time consumed, travel required etc. result in around 40% of registered voters not voting.ICT Innovation: Easy Elect is an idea where the polling booth is taken to people rather than the other way round. A docu-fiction animation about Theyyam, a popular ritual dance of north Kerala. Ponnu, a little girl, is fascinated by the stories of Theyyam, especially the Pottan Theyyam and their path toward becoming gods. She is overwhelmed by the nuances of his (the Pottans) character and thinks he is a paragon of virtue who has fought and given his life for the equality of human race. She also believes that she too, like Pottan, can do just anything. While her mother gives her dreams their wings, over a period of time Ponnu finds herself in the midst of a conflict of culture. She realizes that the society she lives in treats girls as the inferior sex and denies them any kind of freedom. She does not know whether she should live by the stories and ideals her mother has taught her or the norms of society. She seeks reassurance in Pottan, but her innocent choice is seen as overstepping the boundaries of propriety. Keli, which means the mark of a beginning, symbolizes her fight.
