Inspired by the WikiProject: Spoken Wikipedia, I recorded the rstsentence of a randomly selected article aloud using my computerstext-to-speech feature. In order to hear how the hyperlinks within

one sentence interact with each other, the rst sentence wasexpanded by three degreesthe articles hyperlinked in the rstsentence were unpacked to show the hyperlinks they contained,and that set of hyperlinked articles was likewise unpacked.

Corresponding screen captures of the hyperlinked articles weresynced with the audio in order to clarify and express the density ofsound/information.

New Standard Encyclopedia (1992) pages, avored agar, vinegar,

salt, sugar, water, canning jars

[work in progress]

Material studies that substitute methods of information preservationwith methods of food preservation. Pages from multiple sections ofthe New Standard Encyclopedia (1992) were pickled and jelliedusing materials that will promote growth over time. I will be tracking

the interaction of those materials with the pages and altering thepreservation solutions.

Topics of interest:

- time sensitivity of data captured as information- data degradation

- alternative methods of material archiving

03 Encyclographia

Understanding encyclopedias as containers of information andcompendia of knowledge, this ongoing project (which takes formas a Tumblr blog) explores how the encyclopedic form has been

translated and expanded by Wikipedia. Content is generatedaccording to the daily Featured Articlewhat results is an imageor animation that aims to encapsulate the subject according tothe information presented in the article. The questions that initially

guided my activity:

How does the translation of written information into visual formchange what potential knowledge is made available to thereader/user? What is gained? What is lost?

I began uploading my images to Wikimedia Commons and

publishing them directly to their respective articles, tracking theduration of their stay. More often than not, the visual content I

contributed was removed by other editorsone in particulardecided to contact me directly:

I see that you have been uploading images to Wikimedia Commons and

linking to them here. Every one of your images has a problem with it: fromviolating WP: No original research to just plain uselessness. Please stopinserting your images in Wikipedia.

This editors reaction to my contribution caused me to question

even further what role visual content serves within an encyclopediccontext-and in a broader sense, what role visualization has insystems of information that are predominantly verbal.

04 Accretion Fields

This piece continues my investigation of the different forms thatphysical bodies of information can take, primarily using theframework of the encyclopedic book/codex to question those forms.

Taken off their respective books, the dust jackets (from BurnhamsCelestial Handbook) are empty husks, containing only the edges ofinformation (i.e. titles, summaries, reviews) and none of the meat.I wanted to recongure what information these dust jackets could

contain by turning them into potential containers of physical dust.The berglass air lter medium, meant to trap dust in our homes,becomes a channel to trap dust in these books that ultimatelycatalogue dust in space.

Third in a series of books united by interleaving their pages andcropping the joined forms with a guillotine. At the time of its creationthis series was an exploration of the book as an analog for the body,

using these forms to evoke the relationships that take place betweentwo bodies. My interest in the book form has since refocused toits physical and digital translations and how the dynamic betweenthe two can change our interaction with the information contained

within.

This sculpture was conceived as an inversion of the traditionalrepresentation of the god Janus, who according to Ancient Romantheology, presides over beginnings and transitions. Depicted as

having two faces, Janus simultaneously looks outward to the futureand to the past. Cast from my collaborators and my head, theseforms imagine not only the bending of sight away from future andpast, but also how a materially permanent merger between two

distinct bodies might take shape.

By cultivating two individual sets of mold from bodily uidscontributed by myself and my collaborator, this installation exploresnot only how the human body can generate a presence outside of

itself that remains indicative of itself, but also how that presencediffers between two people.

Performative video in which molasses is positioned as acommunicative substance that is exchanged between bodies.Molasses becomes a physical surrogate for verbal communication.

Created in response to a prompt to construct a wearable defensemechanism or shelter. Inspired by the giraffes advantage of sightand height (i.e. being able to see 360 degrees without turning their

heads), I constructed an expanding and contracting, wearableperiscope that serves as a portable prosthetic of vision.
