An adaptation of the operetta by Dr. Virgilio Fuentes, this dance drama tells about a powerful but aging King named Kulambo who, along with his five wives, rules Limasawa (literally “five wives”), an island in the southern tip of Leyte.

Although he already had two sons with two of his four wives, Rajah Kulambo wanted another son who would succeed him. Since his fifth and youngest wife could not bear him a child, he decided to take yet one more wife.

He chose, Myra, who happened to be engaged to Amad. Distraught at this unfortunate turn of events, Myra and Amad decided to run away. They were soon forcibly taken back to Limasawa. Amad was punished while Myra was brought before Rajah Kulambo and ordered to prepare for the Royal Wedding.

During the marriage ceremony, however, lightning and thunder struck the entire island-an unusual occurrence that all islanders interpreted to be a bad omen.

In the ensuring commotion, Myra and Amad had the chance to escape. But they soon returned to the Kingdom to beg the King for forgiveness. Rajah Kulambo did not only forgive them, he also gave them blessing. Thus, the two lovers were reunited and Rajah Kulambo remained with his five wives.
