DESCRIPTION OF THE ORGANIZATION: In keeping with the Algonquin Nation meeting held in Val d’Or on February 14 and 15, 2019, the Algonquin have agreed to work together as a Nation. The Nation involved in this job posting is composed of the 11 Algonquin Nations from Ontario and Quebec. It is comprised of the following Algonquin First Nation communities, namely: Abitibiwinni, Barriere Lake, Kebaowek, Kitcisakik, Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg, Lac Simon, Long Point, Pikwakanagan, Timiskaming, Wahgoshig and Wolf Lake, symbolizing the removal of the artificial boundaries the Government of Canada put in place to divide the Algonquin Nation. The focus was on the resurgence of one, united Algonquin Nation drawing on the tradition of protecting their land, their water and their people. The Nation discussed the need to assert themselves as owners of the land and not tenants. RESPONSIBILITIES (see attached job description): Under the direction of the Director General, and in accordance with the policies, orientations and priorities adopted by the Algonquin Anishinabeg Nation Tribal Council, the Project Coordinator will work with the Algonquin communities of Abitibiwinni, Barriere Lake, Kebaowek Kitcisakik, Kitigan Zibi, Lac Simon, Long Point, Pikwakanagan, Timiskaming, Wolf Lake and Wahgoshig First Nations and act as a liason and coordinator for the LeBreton Flats development. Under the supervision of the Director General, and in accordance with the policies, orientations and priorities adopted by the Algonquin Anishinabeg Nation Tribal Council, the Project Coordinator will work under the direction of the Nation that includes Abitibiwinni, Barriere Lake, Kebaowek Kitcisakik, Kitigan Zibi, Lac Simon, Long Point, Pikwakanagan, Timiskaming, Wolf Lake and Wahgoshig First Nations and act as a liason and coordinator for the LeBreton Flats development. The employee will ensure that the Grand Chief and political leadership are kept up to date on any developments in the projects.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Recruitment and resources Assists in researching and contracting expert services for the negotiation team, committees and sub-committees as required.

Assists in the search and selection of the experts needed by the Nation.

Acts as a Liaison between the Nation and the various Government Departments

Coordinates the meetings of the committees and sub-committees

Gathers pertinent information from the governmental departments as necessary.

Coordinates meetings between the Nation and the government.

Keeps abreast of all major projects to ensure consistency and ensure there is no overlap or duplication of funding agreements.

Education and Experience

In order of preference 1. University degree with a minimum of 2 years of work

experience in project coordination. 2. College diploma with a minimum of 3 years of work

experience in project coordination. 3. High school diploma or equivalent with a minimum of 5

years of work experience in project coordination. Project management certification is considered an

asset Experience working with Algonquin and First Nations

businesses. Experience in leading community engagement

sessions.

Skills and Knowledge

Must be a member of one of the 11 Algonquin communities.

Ability to work with Windows, Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and any other related software.

High degree of confidentiality and discretion. Knowledge and understanding of the Algonquin and First

Nations issues, concerns, needs and priorities. Ability to travel extensively. Ability to communicate in English or French.

I would like to announce that the Algonquin Language Learning program “Can 8” will be ready

within the next week or so.

(Can 8 is ongoing work preparing and recording Algonquin lessons, as of today, K.Z.E.S and K.Z.A.

have 40 Can 8 licenses)

The Kitigan Zibi Schools HAVE 1st priority in receiving their usernames and passwords to

access Algonquin lessons from Can 8.

After getting the students and staff at the schools’ setup with the Can 8 program, only K.Z.A.

members will then be given usernames and password.

In the future, licenses for Can 8 may be sold for a very reasonable price for all K.Z.A members.

If you are interested in learning Algonquin, feel free to download the Can 8 program into your

laptops or personal computers

by Googling Can 8 and click on download (cannot use Ipads, tablets and cell phones).
