OPEN POSITIONS – VOLUNTEERS NEEDEDThe Alumni Association has two open Officers Positions and is in need of volunteers. We are in need of a well organized individual for the position of Grammateus, who can produce timely minutes of our Board of Directors meetings. This Officer has full voting rights on the Board of Directors. We are also in need of an assistant treasurer to help track our donor data, update our donor scroll, and manage our budget process. Preferably someone who has held the position of Crysophylos at the Chapter level or has a background in finance. The Board of Advisors, working directly with the Chapter is always in need of motivated volunteers and we always have a need for Mentors for the Mentor-ship program. If you are interested in any of these positions and are willing to volunteer some of your time to the fraternity it is much appreciated. Please contact us at [email protected] for more information and/or to let us know of your interest.

SPRING 2017 Under the leadership of Aaron Williams the Chapter had a great Spring Semester in 2017. Their new Philanthropy Event “See/Saw for a Chance” in support of St Jude Children’s Research Hospital was a big success with over $600 raised and was a lot of fun. The Chapter also had a very success-ful recruitment period that netted 9 new members. As usual the Chapter had a great time during the annual Alumni Reunion where Frater Bobby Koolis and Frater Masaki Carty were both awarded scholarships. The Chapter also was victorious in defending their 2016 Greek Week Championship…that makes 2 in a row – we will see if the Chapter can match the 85-87 Chapter with a 3-peat. The Lambda Sigma Chapter ended up ranked in the top 30 chapters Nationally and tops in the Province. The Spring 2017 semester also saw the birth of Simon “TKE Man” Jablokow (below left) – our Fall 2017 Prytanis.

THANK YOU FROM FRATER KOOLIS #710Last year was the best year for the Lambda Sigma Alumni Association financially speaking since being established in 2008. We were able to approve funding from our Special Projects Fund to help two undergraduate Fraters attend the TKE Conclave in New Orleans. This would have been out of reach financially for them without our help. Here is what Bobby recounts about his experience and the help he received from our Alumni Association in making his trip a reality. We think this is a great testimonial for why Alumni contributions to the Lambda Sigma TKE Alumni Association are so important. For a video from Bobby visit www.lstke.com

FRATERS,Honestly, I was always planning on going to Conclave. It was one of my biggest aspirations since joining TKE, as, well, it seemed like it would be an awesome opportunity. It was.The most incredible part of Conclave was being able to walk up to any Frater and strike up a conversation with a mutual understanding of our bond. Many at Lambda-Sigma seem to forget that we are a part of something far bigger than just our chapter. I met brothers from near (Maine, Rhode Island) and far (California, Minnesota, Florida, Alaska). It was amazing to compare chapter operations, traditions, and find out some of the common problems that we faced. There were so many different ideas and personalities it is hard to recount them all. Many chapters faced similar financial issues that Lambda-Sigma once did, and as a past Crysophylos, I was able to share some of our issues and how we handled them, with the help of the Board of Advisors and Alumni Association. There were countless fundraising ideas including swings for St. Jude, video game marathons, physical marathons, car smashes, and so many more.Participating in ritual was incredible was well. Hundreds of brothers from around the world were there, and yelling “here” during roll call to represent the alumni association was an incredible honor. We participated in an awesome community service project, working near the mouth of the Mississippi River in a flood prone area to install numerous new plants that help to alleviate some of the water drainage issues that the city faces. The parade through downtown was beyond description in words. We had perhaps a dozen police escorts shutting down the streets as we went, with brothers, sweethearts, friends, and family stretching for seven or eight blocks with a New Orleans marching band accompanying us and Buckwheat and our International Sweetheart Loya VanOrder, leading the way. And finally, electing the new members of the Grand Council and voting on black book legislation was fascinating. I’m very pleased with the new members of our Grand Council, with our

Venerable Grand Prytanis Chris Hansen providing a vision that we should all aspire to reach – completing our $2.6M commitment to St. Jude by next Conclave, a full two years early, and to become Tau Kappa Epsilon, the first Intergalactic Fraternity.I saved up for a while. We had $1,000 in our Conclave Savings Plan, but I knew that if other people wanted to go, I would need to save a lot. So I did. Alas, when I heard that the alumni were contributing a significant amount of cash for this endeavor, I was particularly relieved. Because of the generosity of the alumni, neither I, nor Masaki, had to pay for our flights, or the registration fee for Conclave. Because of this, we were able to have a blast on Bourbon Street – I’ll leave those adventures to your imagination. For that, I must thank everyone who has made a generous donation to the Alumni Association. Your money isn’t going into a bottomless pit – it does have a substantive and substantial impact on the chapter, and without question enhanced my undergraduate experience more than I’ll ever be able to quantify.I love the fraternity, Yours in the Bond,Robert Koolis #710

ALUMNI PROFILE: ANDY KNAPP INITIATED: Spring 1998EDUCATION: KSC 2001 with a BS in Safety Studies & a BS in Product DesignEMPLOYMENT: Andy has been in the safety field for 17 years working for Hasbro, GE, and currently TURBOCAM. As the Corporate Safety Manager for TURBOCAM Inc, Andy enjoys finding new and creative ways to protect people, improve process, enhance production, while protecting the environment. TURBOCAM Inc is a global company employing 550 people in NH and 850 worldwide. They manufacture impellers for turbos, and industrial components for the oil, gas, aviation, and aerospace sectors. LOCATION & FAMILY: Andy and his wife Romar currently reside in Barrington NH with their son Jamus and Golden Doodle Jack.COMMUNITY: Andy is also a town selectman for the town of Barrington

having been elected in 2016 for a 3 year term. He is currently working on improving the Town of Barrington’s efficiency, improving Town business hours and streamlining government efficiency with the goal of lowering the local tax rate while increasing property values. In addition to all of that, Andy and Romar own a commercial property in Piseco NY. Andy reports the following about the property and years long project of upgrading and remodeling it. The property is known as Piseco Lake Lodge (1542 Old Piseco Rd, Piseco, NY). You can find it on facebook at Friends of Piseco Lake Lodge. We purchased the property back in 2014. The businesses had been closed or several years and the property was in disrepair. The property consists of a general store, motel, bar and restaurant, residence, and marina. The property had sentimental value to me since I waited tables in the restaurant and ran the store. It also was a place where I envisioned my entire family being present on the property. We have been working tirelessly to return the property to a family/community asset that people can create generational memories at.Over the last two years we have installed a new well, two new septics, and all new infrastructure on the property. We have renovated the store and have a vibrant business that’s signature product is fresh donuts. We have renovated the residence and are currently in the process of renovating the three room motel. All of the buildings have been gutted to the studs, received new windows, doors, electrical and plumbing. Each building has high efficiency energy saving systems and LED lighting. The motel is targeted to a wide audience from people vacationing in the summer but aren’t quite up for the camping experience, to leaf peepers and hunters in the fall and snowmobilers in the winter. The property sits next to thousands of acres of Adirondack preserved land, is on the river into Piseco Lake and has the main snowmobile trail running through the property. The long term plan is to turn the bar and restaurant into a small batch brewery. The Alumni Association would like to wish Andy the best in all his endeavors and thank him for all his contributions to the success of our chapter both past and future.

NEW ALUMNI DAN KEADY #707INITIATED Fall 2015 MAJOR KSC 2017, BS in Health Science with a focus in Community Health. EMPLOYMENT Director of Human Resources, Keady Family Practice. SELF EMPLOYMENT Self Improvement Coach working with College StudentsDan would be best described as a go getter, an over achiever, a winner, but really he is a young man with a lot of great ideas that have helped him achieve success in many areas. His ideas at the chapter level as an undergraduate helped the chapter gain positive press for their philanthropic and community service related activities. His first big idea was an event called ‘TKE In a Box’. The idea was to construct a box from cardboard and live in it for a week on the Keene State Campus to raise awareness for the homeless and raise funds for the 100 nights shelter. This has become a yearly event and given the chapter something to rally around each fall. The next big idea was for an event called ‘See Saw for a Chance’, basically a See/Saw marathon where TKE members would ride a See/Saw for 30 straight hours to raise money for St Jude Children’s Research Hospital. These ideas and the execution of them at the campus level helped the Chapter achieve its Philanthropic and Community Service goals but also earned Dan some notable awards. Dan was the recipient of the 3 highest non academic awards that a student can earn at Keene State. First the Michael J. Watters Memorial Scholarship award for his work on the TKE in a Box event. Then he earned the 2017 President’s Leadership Award for his civic leadership on campus, and finally at the 2017 KSC Commencement he was the chosen recipient of the Leo F. Redfern citizenship award which is the highest non academic award at Keene State for his overall contributions to campus life. In addition, Dan is the only Lambda Sigma TKE to ever have been chosen to attend the TKE Leadership Academy in Colorado Springs, CO.

Best of Luck Dan, We have a feeling you are going to do some great things.

ALUMNI VOLUNTEER PROFILE: CHRIS PEDERSEN

Coordinator of Education and Leadership Training

CHRIS PEDERSEN has been involved with the Chapter as an alumni volunteer for over 5 years. First, jumping in as the Board of Advisors Chairman for 4 years and most recently as the Coordinator of Chapter Education and Leadership Training. This position is tailored to Chris’ background as a teacher and the things he likes most about working with the Chapter. Chris is passionate about Lambda Sigma TKE and works hard to instill the same passion within each Chapter member. He is credited with coming up with the slogans “Show me, Don’t Tell Me” and “Protect it” as a way to motivate Chapter members to each carry their Brick and achieve their highest potential. Chris is tasked with overseeing the various leadership training attendance requirements of the Chapter both at the TKE National level and the Keene State Campus level and to further the chapter members TKE education throughout their undergraduate years. Chris has always been willing to step up as a volunteer for the chapter and for that both the Chapter and Alumni are very grateful. He credits his continuing interest in TKE to the relationships formed while in College especially the friendships with Eric Germain, Chuck Prive and Eric White.
