Hello Galena families and staff,

Welcome back to all of you. My name is Julina Colt and I will be your Galena 5 Star Booster PTO President for the 2019-2020 school year. This is a special abbreviated issue of the Growl. This is our monthly publication produced by your PTO to inform and build our community. The Growl is distributed digitally every month to keep our families informed and involved via email and posted on the Galena website. We hope you enjoy receiving this important communication resource and if you have difficulty receiving the Growl please confirm your preferred email with the GHS office executive assistant Dana Leslie ([email protected].)

Some of you may have previously received the PTO membership form and already signed up for the Galena PTO and we thank you. Our new form can be found on page 3 and we encourage every Galena family to join our PTO Booster organization and support our PTO fundraiser. Here are some of the things your PTO contributions have funded in the past: lights for the theater, calculators for math, cameras for journalism and yearbook, water filtrations for the school, computers, teacher requests, safe and sober celebrations, and SAT and ACT test preparation classes to name just a few.

We are hoping for 100% participation this year. Our goal is to raise $40,000 to help fund many projects and activities. If every family joins PTO for $60.00 we will raise $40,000 and be able to positively impact our school and enhance our students’ education.

We will have a table at Bear Essentials and back to school Open House to answer any questions and collect forms or if you mail now we will have your card ready for you.

Please take the time to attend a PTO meeting this year. Our big event is our annual "Dollars for Scholars Social" please mark you calendars for October 19 and look for more information on this event in your next Growl. A big thank you to the parents who have agreed to serve on our board this year. We need you! We are still looking to fill a few slots. Please email if you would like more information or to volunteer please contact me at [email protected]. I look forward to working with you this year.

Hello Galena Grizzlies! Please let me take a moment to

introduce myself. I am your new Assistant Principal,

Crystal Edwards. I have been an educator for over 13

years-first as an Honors English teacher and Student

Leadership advisor, and most recently as a Dean for the past

3 years. Yes, you may have heard I come from the land of

the Huskies, but I am beyond excited to start the next phase

of my career as a Grizzly! I am a passionate and caring

educator that loves to learn about people and their

interests. I also have a two amazing and

funny children: Kane-7 and Bianca-4. My

husband is also a high school teacher and coach,

so we live and breathe all things school most days.

I look forward to getting to know the students, school,

families, culture, and grizzly way-so please feel free to say

hello and introduce yourself to me. Already, I can tell

“It’s Good to be Grizzly!”
