PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Welcome back to Term 2 and what a community themed start to a new

term it has been with both the Easter Fair and ANZAC day.

Firstly, congratulations to EVERYONE who helped in ANYWAY to make the

Easter Fair such a huge success. (that’s kind of my motto for this year).

Admittedly the glorious weather contributed to such a bumper day, but it is

everyone who contributed their time, thought and efforts towards the day. I

have had so many compliments of what a fun, well organised and well run

day it was with many people looking forward to it each year.

The Easter Fair Committee is an amazing group of people made up of

parents, staff and Judy who work tirelessly throughout the year to ensure the

Fair is a success both financially and as a community event. so the profits

can be used towards projects that support our students.

The Buildings and Grounds sub committee will be working on a master plan

to determine school improvements that the profits will fund including

improvements to the stadium and upgrades to our school to cater for our

ever increasing enrolments.

Our Fair is strongly supported by local businesses through donations of

goods and services for prizes so please support these local businesses. (Our

supporters’ list is included in the newsletter)

Secondly, this week was an important week in communities all around

Australia and New Zealand as we prepared for and

acknowledged Anzac Day as a significant time to

pause and remember those who fought to keep our

countries safe and free.

On Wednesday, as I was visiting the Senior area, I was

in admiration of the high level of engagement and

the earnest way EVERY Senior students went about

their studies of ANZAC Day as they rotated through

five different activities. The quality of their work

reflected how they understood the importance of this

event. Mrs Mackie was doing poetry with the focus on

expressive language. She asked me what did ANZAC

sound like to me. For me it was the rustling autumn

leaves that blew down the road as I marched with the

Tarwin Valley students. However after today, I think it

may now be the roar of fighter jets above the ANZAC

march.

The highlight of each year is the growing participation

of students in ANZAC Day ceremonies, keeping the

tradition alive, developing respect and understanding

what community is. The younger ones don’t quite

understand it all or know all the songs we sing but they learn over the years

through participation. From young Archie standing proudly with his medals,

to the Preps smiling as the older students sang around them to our School

Captains reading the requiem-what a great day to be an Australian and

keep the ANZAC spirit alive!

ART NEWS

Our Artists of the Week are Jerome Morgan in grade 3 and Ines De Bellis in grade 2, both

with their gel pen drawings of Birds. Here

both students have independently drawn at

home these detailed renditions, one a

Flamingo and the other a Hummingbird. Both students have paid

particular attention to form and colour.

Parent Helpers

Once again, we wish to welcome parent helpers into classrooms across the school during English and Mathematics sessions. Please note that you will need to have completed a Parent Helper Training Session and have a Working With Children Check (WWCC) in order to assist in the class-room. If you are interested in helping in the classroom, please speak to your classroom teacher.

This term we will be running two Parent Helper Training Sessions. These sessions cover how we teach Reading, Writing, Speaking, Listening and Maths, and how you as the parent can support your child’s development in these areas. The content is more directed towards helping in the Jun-ior School. Based on feedback from parents who have attended these sessions in the past, we highly recommend attending one of these session ALL PARENTS regardless of whether you wish to help in the classroom or not. Parents have said that they can now better support their child with their home reading.

We are offering two times to enable as many parents as possible to attend.

Monday 29th April at 12:00pm

and

Tuesday 30th April at 6:00pm

These session run for 45 minutes. Please register your interest with your child’s classroom teacher or the office.

Thank you.

Sports News

On Wednesday, Milla, Jayda, Evie and

Willow competed at the State

Swimming Championship at MSAC. The

girls had two races to compete in, the

12/13 Medley Relay and the Freestyle

relay. With a large number of people

watching back at school on the live

stream the girls did a brilliant job

holding off the other teams and

finishing in 3rd place for the medley

relay. They then had to wait over an

hour for their next race where they

were swimming from lane 2. This time

they had to fight their way back into the race and came back from 7th place to finish 3rd once

again. A fantastic effort to take out two 3rd place medals for the day. Congratulations girls, you

are one of the top relay teams in the state for 2019. Everyone at IKPS is very proud of you and

your effort.

Next Friday, Winter Sport will begin for the grade 5/6’s. Students will sign up for a sport during

class time this week so they can prepare for the sport they will be playing on Friday afternoon.

Our first round will be against Mirboo North at Inverloch.

Rd 1 (3rd May) vs Mirboo North

Rd 2 (10th May) vs Leongatha

Rd 3 (17th May) No game. Combined Reg. have prior engagement that day so they cannot

participate.

Rd 4 (24th May) at Korumburra

Rd 5 (30th May) at Foster

The Winter School Sports Program is an integral part of the Inverloch Kongwak Primary School

sports program. The program is aimed at;

Maximising student participation in sport/physical activity

Providing students with opportunities to experience a variety of sports separate of their

normal weekend activities.

Giving students access to a positive social setting outside of class time.

Developing a school culture where leadership, sportsmanship, empathy, pride, equality and

support of peers is valued and recognised.

Parent helpers are required to run Winter Sport! If you are able to assist, please contact Lewis Rankin.
