• Developing the Biological Museum Data Management System to be used by collections throughout the state.

• Genomic Resources– Provided financial support to acquire the ENMU vertebrate tissue collection.

• Herbarium– Developed and deployed new databasing software and equipment, support

for 3 students data entry.

• New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Sciences– Working together to develop VCE content. IMLS proposal

submitted jointly. Informal Science (NSF) proposal in development (August pre-proposal deadline).

– Presented talk on INRAM Biodiversity efforts at the International Forum on Trends and Developments in Biodiversity Informatics meeting (Sao Paolo, Brazil, October, 2002).

• Gave Seminar– Held half-day seminar on Managing Biodiversity Information for an

Ecoinformatics Training Program for Information Managers for Biological Field Stations (October, 2002).

• Hosted NSF program officers during visit to state

– Georeferencing team has put together a detailed protocol documenting our methodology.

• MSB Geospatial Data System– Will be used for georeferencing, but also a general support tool

for MSB curation and research.

– Basic curation of specimens in preparation of databasing. Investigated databasing options with lengthy review of existing databasing software. Lead for creating a statewide arthropod species list.

• Herbarium– Implemented new MSB file server solution. Hired

students for database entry in October. Switched to new database system. Now entering 20 records/student/hour. Approx. 20K new records added since October.

• Herpetology– Finished coarse databasing of collection. Now

performing quality check on data and preparing location information for georeferencing. Beginning implementation of INRAM georeferencing protocol.

• Mammals– Finishing georeferencing of NM mammal collection

localities under MaNIS grant with INRAM help.– Helping design the INRAM georeferencing protocol.
