Trappe’s Great
Little Barbershop
Ok, so you didn’t know that there is a great little barber shop right here in Trappe. That’s not surprising as it’s probably one of the best kept secrets in town. Don’t look for a barber pole or a barbershop sign in the window, but the “shop” is there all right, and you probably have driven by many times and never noticed. A few days ago, I chanced to meet Kim Hardesty, proprietor of Salon Inspire as I was entering The Talbot Bank, and she politely asked if wanted to get my hair trimmed. I’m sure she noticed that I was “long overdue,” but, like many guys with more years behind than are left ahead, a “beauty sa-lon” is not the first place that comes to mind when it’s time for a trim. But I really did need a hair-cut, and I was already there, and she said I didn’t need an appointment so . . . why not? Well the “lady barber” doesn’t sport a mustache or strop a straight-razor, but she gives a first class haircut, and the price is very reasonable. Now, I wasn’t quite ready to have my nails done, but I’m sure they can do that and a lot more. There is convenient parking and a rear entrance behind the building so you gents who might be a bit self-conscious about being seen entering an upscale beauty salon can slip right in without being noticed. So the next time you guys need a good haircut, check out Salon Inspire in the Moore Building and tell Kim I sent you. Bob Croswell

Notes from the Rural Life Museum of Trappe 29241 Backtown Road ~ Building Our Future by Preserving Our Past
410-476-3339
The Metal Ball that was on top of the old Trappe Water Tower is now in
the yard of the Rural Life Museum of Trappe, MD, Inc at 29241 Back-
town Road. It is approximately eighteen inches in diameter, and its pur-
pose was to provide a sturdy place where a painters ladder could be
mounted. This ladder could be moved all the way around the “peaked”
top of the tank, and be used when the tank was being painted or inspected.
Mostly the tank was painted with aluminum paint, or with a dark color
paint, but for one period of time it was painted white. This first water tank was shipped to Trappe Station in 1927, and
Mr. Harvey Mushaw had the job of using his horses and wagon to move the sections of tank from the station to the cen-
ter of town where it was erected. It served the water customers of Trappe, from 1928 until 1998 when it was replaced by
the new water tower. The Rural Life Museum of Trappe, MD, Inc is please to have this “Metal Ball” as one of our arti-
facts that will help us remember our past, and we wish to thank the Trappe Town Council for making this donation
available to us. To schedule a visit to the museum give us a call at the number above, or contact any director for assis-
tance.
Editors note: The volunteers of the museum picked up a dozen Christmas trees in late January. These trees will be
ground for mulch, and not placed in the landfill. THANK YOU to all the museum volunteers.

FIRECHIEF’S CORNER
POLICE CHIEF’S CORNER
The below information concerning thefts of firearms from vehicles was provided by the Maryland Chiefs
of Police Association. Looks like we all must start checking our vehicles before departing events involving
firearms.
While in a Denver gun store today, a car was tagged on the wheel in the parking lot. The gangs do this on wheels or bumpers at gun stores, shooting ranges, gun shows etc. Later when you are parked at a restaurant, hotel, or other location that’s less well guarded or not under video surveillance, other gang members spot the marker and break into the car for a quick gun grab. This is so RAMPANT in San Antonio, Tx where there was a National shoot this sum-mer, the police chief of that county came out to brief the 400 participants of the competition. Too bad three teams had already been victimized the first day. I don’t know how widespread this is becoming but the info regarding the NSCA Nationals in San Antonio is correct, as those who compete in sporting clays know. Competitors there were having their vehicles marked with a small adhesive dot on the rear license plate or rear bumper, then followed for miles and having their vehicles quickly and efficiently broken in to when parked for lunch, etc. Some crews were working the parking lot at the Nationals itself. 27 high end shotguns were taken there recently. They know when 1400 shooters with high $$ competition guns are in town.
If you should see or suspect illegal drug activity, obtain as much information as possible, without exposing yourself, and report this info to me or the Talbot County Narcotics Task Force at 410-820-8940. If you have any info about plans for underage alcohol/drug parties, or about actual disturbances/parties as they occur, please call me or the Talbot County "Report-A-Party" Tip Line at 410-820-4003. All calls to either the Task Force, Party Tip Line, or myself are confidential. For Police services, except an emergency, please call the 24 hour dispatch number at 410-476-5005. In an EMERGENCY, ALWAYS CALL 9-1-1. As always, if anyone has any questions, concerns or suggestions, call me at 410-476-5117 or 410-829-0613. George Ball - Chief of Police
