Fox Creek Elementary School

The important thing about Fox Creek is that we are all learners. We are a group of experienced and educated individuals who want to share our knowledge. Community is important to us- utilizing volunteers and experts to enrich our lives and our students’ lives. We value and promote critical thinking and are content and substance driven. We want our students to see us as learners, side by side with them. Parents are openly welcomed- for book studies, family math nights, and English support services.

But, the important thing about Fox Creek is that we are all learners.

The Important Thing

The important thing about Fox Creek is that we are collaborators. In partnership with our parents, we focus on thinking positively to find solutions. We build on each other’s strengths, celebrating and learning from each other. Our leadership team collaborates with us so we can all grow together. Many of us are involved in outside organizations that recognize our expertise- as PEBC developers, members on District committees for Essential Learnings, National Board Certified teachers and NCTM Teacher of the Year. Children are also encouraged to ask questions and work cooperatively in groups, sharing their ideas as critical thinkers. But, the important thing about Fox Creek is that we are collaborators.

The important thing about Fox Creek is that we are risk-takers. We are fortunate to teach in a safe environment that allows us to participate in vertical and horizontal lesson studies. We openly embrace the philosophy of Math is the Path and have adopted a new math series which helps guide our teaching. Our classrooms are used as visitation classrooms to highlight good instruction in Reading, Writing, and Mathematics. Students are always excited to share their thinking- with parents, other teachers, visitors, and at celebrations such as North Star assemblies.

The important thing about Fox Creek is that we are passionate. Our school is filled with contagious enthusiasm for learning that can be seen on our hallway walls- artwork, writing, fundraising, celebrations of accomplishments. We are focused on doing things well for the benefit of everyone involved. We are a community- staff, students, and parents all working toward a reachable goal, to make Fox Creek the best possible place for learning and succeeding.

The important thing about Fox Creek is that we are a community. Each school day, Fox Creek keeps everyone informed with school wide announcements. This simple form of communication recognizes those who are celebrating birthdays, congratulates those who receive Shining Star card awards for positive behavior and shares school news. We gather as a group at North Star assemblies one Friday per month where each grade level takes a turn to host and share some learning from the classroom with the school. We start the assembly with a school song, and we walk away feeling as though we have been reminded of the ties that bind us together. Families are invited in for special celebrations at every grade level while a strong group of parent volunteers plans various community events, such as our Fall Festival, Sock Hop, Ice Cream Social and a Bingo night.

The important thing about Fox Creek is that we are global thinkers. Students learn they can change the world through supporting various charitable organizations- Women’s Shelters, Books from the Heart, Hearts Across the Miles, and our latest, Heifer International. This organization helps alleviate hunger by enabling families to become self-sufficient, providing them with different kinds of income-producing animals. Students at Fox Creek have set a goal of collecting $5,000 to buy an “ark.” Through our Student Council, the money raised is accounted for and excitement is generated as our school works to achieve our goals. Our community makes a difference in the lives of others. But, the important thing about Fox Creek is that we are global thinkers.
