People that work for you, will talk about you. If you are a good place to work, they will share that with those around them. If you have a strained environment and make it hard for your employees, they will share that also.

So, step one in building a good reputation is to invest in engaging the people that work for you in your culture and mission. What Your Customer Service Says To Potential Candidates Not only are potential customers looking at customer feedback from other patrons; so are potential candidates. In today’s culture, customers have the opportunity to share with the world their experiences with your business. When you take care of your customers and provide the service they need, you are building a good reputation for your business. Word gets around, both good and bad. (Unfortunately, the bad can be heard much louder than the good!) Is a Good Reputation Really Important to Potential Candidates? Absolutely! People that are top performers want to work at companies that are top performing businesses. They do not want to go to work somewhere that will drag them down and keep them from reaching their career goals. People prefer not to be associated with a business that has a bad reputation for the way they treat their employees or customers. In order to attract people that are talented and qualified, you must be a team or business that has a good reputation. ~ Written for us by our associate Gary Sorrell, Sorrell Associates, LLC. Many of the same concepts you apply to your own work can be applied to the functions of your office. Help your employees to understand what is important to accomplish each day. When you build a culture in your office of managing time wisely, it will help you meet your business goals faster. Here are strategies you can put in place in your company.

• Have productive staff meetings – many timesin staff meetings, you can get off track withthe topics. Send out an agenda ahead of timeso that everyone knows what to expect.

• Develop an action plan – during your staffmeetings, go over priorities for the week. Thiswill give each person on the team something towork toward.

• Send out follow up details – after yourmeetings, send the team follow-up detailsabout decisions and next steps so they willknow exactly what they need to focus on.

• Create a system for accountability – each staffmember should check in with a superiorregularly and give an account of what theyaccomplished. This will further ensure yourteam members stay focused.

By putting together a game plan and informing your staff of the priorities, your business will stay organized. The more organized you are, the better your company will function and the more successful you will be.

Ten Key Tips For Leaders1. Get the right people. Achieving aligned motivation is often in

the selection process. Find people who are both capable andmotivated to achieve the goals you help set for them.

2. Explain what you're doing and why. Your people mustunderstand how everything you ask of them contributes to theoverall goal.

3. Accept mistakes. When you climb mountains, falling is apossibility. Teach your people that whether they are successful ornot, they should be proud ofhaving made the effort.

4. Solicit criticism. In life, successful people are notreluctant to be criticized. Bewilling to take the blame formistakes and to learn fromthem.

5. Treat people fairly, but differently. Dedicate yourself todiscovering what makes each member of your team tick. Peopletell you how to motivate them; it's up to you whether you willhear what they are saying.

6. Let people be selfish. With enough "selfish" people you canaccomplish a lot. Learn to focus your people's self-interesttoward team goals and your team will achieve beyond yourexpectations. Align their passion with your mission!

7. Be decisive. If you have to make a decision, don't hem and haw.Do it and don't stew over it. As the leader you are expected to actlike one. Making a poor decision is often better than making nodecision at all.

8. Recognize individuals for their contributions. If you show thatevery member of the staff is important to the team's success, others will believe it too.

9. Establish a tradition. When you create a system that works, people gain faith in the system and in your leadership. Evenwhen you're not present, your leadership carries over in theprecedent that you've established.

10. Lead by example. Leadership is in the day-to-day things you docorrectly. The example you set is much more important than anyspeech you give.
