Objective and methodology
To improve the recognition of the IB Diploma Programme (DP) worldwide by presenting the profile, performance and destinations of IB diploma and certificate candidates. The global report will cover seven countries: the US, Canada, Mexico, the UK, Spain, India and Australia.
MethodologyStage 1—questionnaire designg q gIn cooperation with the IB, a survey instrument was developed to survey IB graduates in seven countries. The questionnaire contained six sections plus one follow‐up question. The survey obtained confirmation, from students graduating in 2011/2012, of their intended destinations upon completion of the IB Diploma Programme and collected information on: whether students were intending to go on to further education or other destinations; colleges/universities applied to; offers received; scholarship offers; final choice of destination, as well as intended major. The questionnaire also covered student mobility, their decision‐making process and interests, as well as their IB learning experiences.
Stage 2—online surveyA total of 580 eligible schools out of 1391 eligible schools registered to participate in the IB diploma graduate destinations survey 2011/2012. Of these 580 schools, 375 (64.7%) schools either a.) administered the survey to students in class by IB coordinator/teacher/head of school via school‐specific link, b.) emailed their students the school‐specific survey link, or c.) provided i‐graduate with email addresses of their students, so the survey was launched directly to students by i‐graduate. Participating schools were also provided with a suggested email invitation textso the survey was launched directly to students by i graduate. Participating schools were also provided with a suggested email invitation text to be sent to their high school seniors. The email invitation text explained the purpose of the study and detailed how data would be used. The survey data was hosted using i‐graduate’s survey software capability and IB provided students’ exam results from IBIS. All data and information are kept confidentially and individuals cannot be indentified by their answers.
Students who were not studying for the IB diploma or the IB certificate were screened out the survey. A total of 6,780 graduating high school seniors (2464 male, 3930 female, 386 did not state their gender) submitted responses. Both full IB diploma and IB certificate candidates ( , , g ) p pparticipated in the survey, although the share of diploma candidates was considerably higher (5,846 diploma candidates versus 934 certificate candidates).
Please note: Responses were not required for each question, therefore the base numbers (n) per question might vary.
