E ncore Theatrical Company has an amazing line up for 2014! Each show ex- hibits the community’s talents through performing arts. All ages may audition for any play and you can visit www.etc.org for more information about what to expect from an audition. Encore presents the exciting new comedy and winner of Tony and Drama Desk awards of the Best New Play, “Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike,” the dates are May 9 th through the 18 th . July 18 th through August 3 rd , Encore will be performing “Shrek: The Musical” that features an unseem- ly ogre who goes on a quest to rescue a princess to save his swamp, but along the way he meets an annoying yet loving donkey and over a dozen other fairytale misfits. September 12 th through the 21 st , Encore sets the stage for one of the most bracing and critically acclaimed plays in Broadway history, “August: Osage County.” For ages 18 and un- der, En- core’s young stars will present a Disney classic, Aladdin, which will be October 3 rd through 12 th . Encore’s last play of the year will be the light hearted and holiday favorite, “A Christmas Carol: The Mu- sical” on November 28 th through December 7 th . All performances are held at Walters State in the auditorium and welcome to all. Photo taken from www.google.com G od’s Not Dead is the story of a Christian college student who is inspired to challenge the beliefs of his philos- ophy classmates and professor by proving God is not dead. The movie shows his bold stand and viewers will be inspired by the resulting events that unfold in the lives of those around him. The movie is very uplifting and shows that obedience to God can have truly miraculous results. For anyone looking for an intricate and intriguing movie, God’s Not Dead is a great recommendation. BY SAM MORGAN NEWS CO-EDITOR O n March 28, Rose Center put together a talent show to help benefit the Philip- pines that were recently struck by Typhoon Haiyan. The typhoon is one of the strongest typhoons ever recorded, and according to the UN, has left 11 million people affected. The talent showed helped to raise over $1200 for those who had their lives torn apart by the catastrophe. The winners of the talent show were the group, Three Guys with Ties. Shaan Ra- maprasad, Devon Parvin, and Sam Morgan performed an instrumental version of “Royals” by Lorde for violin, piano, drums, bass guitar, and electric guitar, and came up with the magnificent name an hour before we went on stage. Shaan switched be- tween piano and violin, and Sam Morgan went back and forth with bass and electric guitar. The three band mem- bers had played together in different groups such as the Mitch Smith Orchestra, De- cember’s End, and with East High’s choral program, and when they heard about the talent show, they wanted to be a part of it. They put together our song for something to have fun with, not really ex- pecting to win, but they ended up winning the $100 prize. They promptly spent it on a lot of ice cream. The students have done absolutely astounding work in singing a diverse musical repertoire and achieving numer- ous individual and collective milestones, cumulating in a magnificent Spring Concert at First Baptist Church. The Choir’s music possessed an enormous vitality that drove the concert onward, not unlike the up-tempo hymnal themes heard through the performance. Mr. Moore gave free reign to his imagination with an unbridled score of tender and reflective themes that allowed the immensely ebullient talents of the East High Choral Department to reach ethereal heights in a glowing testament to the amazing character and musicianship of every Choir member. Their stately professionalism lent an air of full-orchestral color to the proceedings, superbly conveying the awe inspiring power of the Lord that the students so exuberantly praised in song. Moore himself, beaming with pride in the choral department and everything it represents and stands for, lauded that, “the East High Choir has truly exemplified excellence in every conceivable way this year,” effective- ly encapsulating the fantastic musical merits of a marvelous group of young adults. O n June 5th-8th, the following bands will be performing for the CMA Fest:

On March 28, Rose Center put together a talent show to help benefit the Philip-pines that were recently struck by Typhoon Haiyan. The typhoon is one of the
