VI. Student Visa / Entry Permit Requirements

As a general rule, any person who does not have the right of abode or right to land in Hong Kong must obtain a student visa / entry

permit before coming to Hong Kong for undergraduate study. There is no need to apply for a student visa / entry permit, if you:

have a Hong Kong Permanent Identity Card with a letter "A" (for Right of Abode) or "R" (for Right to Land) under the date of

birth;

hold a valid dependent visa; or

have been granted an "unconditional stay" in Hong Kong.

If you are in doubt, please check with the Immigration Department of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative

Region at https://www.immd.gov.hk/eng/services/roa/geninfor.html.

The visa application together with the relevant documents must be submitted by the last week of June (Fall Term)/November (Spring

Term).

VII. Student Registration

UGVS will normally register as full-time students of HKUST for one term only. Those who wish to continue their studies at HKUST

for a second term will need to seek approval from their host department in advance by submitting a written request to the Academic

Registry (ARO) before the end of their study term. At the same time, an extension of the visa / entry permit granted by the

Immigration Department of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region is required.

UGVS will:

not enroll on any specific program of studies;

be subjected to the same academic regulations of HKUST as all other regular students; and

have access to all on-campus educational, sports and recreational facilities enjoyed by regular students of the University.

At the end of the agreed period of study, an academic transcript reporting the student's courses completed at HKUST will be issued

to the visiting student and a copy will be sent to their home institution for record.

VIII. Financial Assistance

Visiting students are normally not entitled to any financial assistance from the University or HKSAR Government. It is important for

individuals to ensure that they have adequate financial support while they are in Hong Kong.

IX. Accommodation

Due to heavy demand for on-campus student residence, on-campus accommodation will not be available for visiting students. Visiting

students would have to make their own housing arrangements off-campus before arrival. The Student Housing and Residential Life

Office offers useful information on finding off-campus accommodation: http://shrl.ust.hk/eng/detail.php?catid=2&sid=16.

X. Medical and Health Care Insurance Coverage

All Undergraduate Visiting Students are required to subscribe to the HKUST Compulsory Travel Insurance Plan

(http://sfao.ust.hk/insurance/info_nontravel.html) at least one month before the commencement of their visiting studies. Policy

details and premium rate will be provided when a visiting student is admitted.

The University has a group personal accident insurance policy for all students against any accident loss sustained while participating

in activities organized or arranged by the University and/or student organizations on campus or off-campus, local or abroad, subject

to certain conditions. Details can be found at http://sfao.ust.hk/insurance/info_group.html.

Visiting students are advised to review their needs and make their own arrangements for additional medical and health care coverage

as appropriate.

According to the HKSAR Department of Health, there is currently no vaccination requirement for travelers visiting Hong Kong. However, visiting students are advised to review their own immunization record and discuss with physicians if any vaccination will

be recommended.

XI. Privacy Policy Statement

For data collected from or generated by applicants during their application to undergraduate studies at HKUST, the University pledges

to meet the standard of personal data privacy protection, in complying with the requirements of the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance.

Data collected will be kept confidential, and they may be transferred to departments / administrative offices within HKUST for

processing and use. For further details on the University’s Privacy Policy, please visit: http://www.ust.hk/privacy-policy/.
