Geography

How is Northamptonshire linked to the Tudor times?

In geography this term we will be learning about the battle of the Tudor rose and where the

battle took place. We will learn about Northamptonshire’s association with the houses of

Lancaster and York, locating famous buildings around our area that were linked to the battles.

As part of this we will be creating our own Tudor roses for display in the

classroom, understanding the different elements of the rose.

History

What was it like living as a child in the Tudor times?

This term we will be learning about life as a Tudor child comparing

our lives with theirs. We will look at how poor Tudor children lived

in comparison with how the rich lived.

We will also learn about the Tudor kings and queens, creating a

timeline of key people and events in Tudor history.

English

In the reign of King Henry V111, London is full of cheats and villains. When James and his parents try

to get the better of Henry, they find he wants to play games of his own. Can they challenge the all

powerful King and win?

This term year 2 will be reading Terry Deary’s ‘The Thief, the Fool and the Big Fat King’

as part of their English learning. As well as activing out parts of the story they will be

retelling the story in their own words. They will learn how to use speech, paragraphing

and a range of sentence openers to make their story writing more interesting for the

reader.

Subjects linked to the theme... PSHE

This term we will be focusing on managing

our feelings, discussing when they are

feeling good and bad. We will also be

learning about who we can turn to when we

are worried or have a problem.

Use units of time (seconds, minutes, hours, days) and know the relationships between them; read the time to the quarter hour, identify time intervals, including those that cross the hour)

Know the number of minutes in an hour and the number of hours in a day

Compare and sequence intervals of time Mass:

Choose and use appropriate standard units to estimate and measure mass (kg/g) to the nearest appropriate unit, using rulers, scales, thermometers and measuring vessels

Estimate, compare and measure weight, choosing and using standard units (g, kg) and suitable measuring instruments.

Read the numbered divisions on a scale and interpret the divisions between them

Compare and order mass and record the results using >, < and =

PE

Outdoor PE – Cross Country.

All children will be training for the whole school cross country competition in the last week of term. They will learn breathing techniques, pacing, different running approaches and sprint finishes. Cross country will go ahead in all weathers so it is important that all children have a pair of outdoor trainers.

In the back of your home school log there are several reading bug challenges for

you to complete! We look forward to seeing these completed and celebrating how

many bug points your child has gained over the term! Happy reading!
