Through the Keyhole!
This term our learning theme is ‘Through the Keyhole’ where we will
be focusing on life in the Tudor times. We will be learning about
significant people in the Tudor times as well as learning about what
it would have been like to be a child during this period.
For our Sensational Start we spent the day at Sulgrave Manor
experiencing life as a Tudor child. We had a fantastic day dressing up
and learning about the Tudor times.

Geography
How is Northamptonshire linked to the Tudor times?
In geography this term we will be learning about the battle of the Tudor rose and where the
battle took place. We will learn about Northamptonshire’s association with the houses of
Lancaster and York, locating famous buildings around our area that were linked to the battles.
As part of this we will be creating our own Tudor roses for display in the
classroom, understanding the different elements of the rose.
History
What was it like living as a child in the Tudor times?
This term we will be learning about life as a Tudor child comparing
our lives with theirs. We will look at how poor Tudor children lived
in comparison with how the rich lived.
We will also learn about the Tudor kings and queens, creating a
timeline of key people and events in Tudor history.
English
In the reign of King Henry V111, London is full of cheats and villains. When James and his parents try
to get the better of Henry, they find he wants to play games of his own. Can they challenge the all
powerful King and win?
This term year 2 will be reading Terry Deary’s ‘The Thief, the Fool and the Big Fat King’
as part of their English learning. As well as activing out parts of the story they will be
retelling the story in their own words. They will learn how to use speech, paragraphing
and a range of sentence openers to make their story writing more interesting for the
reader.
