The Healthy Food Guide to Weight Loss

I had a weight loss problem myself and turned my life around with this simple healthy food Guide. First off…

I'm a graphic designer by trade and I started my family 20 years ago. I tried to exercise a bit but I ended up putting on quite a bit of weight over the years.

Then I started to do more office type work. I was pretty unhappy, I had hardly any confidence and then one day I just thought no, enough is enough. I hired myself a personal trainer and started

exercising 5 times a week. I started eating really well and in 6 months I lost 13 kilos.

I haven't looked back since then. It's not about diets anymore; it's a way of life. I love my lifestyle. I exercise a lot now. I eat very well. I know what to eat and I know the secrets of never getting hungry.

When I first started my weight loss journey these are the tips I followed:• When you eat the right foods that are really good for you

you're always full.

• The secret to never feeling hungry is to have several small meals a day; I'm talking about 5 or 6 meals a day.

• Portion control is important. You need to eat the right amounts of certain foods.

The right foods have exactly what your body needs to function properly and when you eat them your body is satisfied.

The idea of eating several small meals a day is so you never get hungry. If you only eat because you’re hungry you want instant gratification and you’re setting yourself up to choose the wrong types of food. So you never have more than a 5 hour break between meals.

Control your portion size. I eat all of my carbohydrates in the early part of the day and after about 3 or 4 PM I don't have any more carbs. I eat quite a bit of protein, e.g. I'll have eggs for breakfast. For a mid morning snack I might have some nuts and some fruit.

Then for lunch I might have some chicken and a salad. You can have a little bit of carbs no problem. Then Mid afternoon I might have yoghurt and some walnuts.

At night I'll have steamed fish or some chicken or meat, even certain vegetables do have carbohydrates but most green leafy vegetables are fine, you can have quite a bit of that.

Having all that protein helps your body repair when you've been exercising. You have to have a certain amount of carbohydrates because our bodies need it.

I don't eat for around an hour and a half before I exercise and I certainly don't eat for at least an hour after I have exercised because your metabolism is quite high just after you've exercised and you're using up a lot of your energy store. So if you eat straight away after you've exercised your body will use up the food you just ate rather than burning up the excess fat in your body.

Keep Hydrated all the time at least 6 to 8 glasses of water a day. If you get hungry have a big glass of water. Before a meal have a big glass of water because this will fill you up.

Once you start portion control your stomach shrinks and so after a while you actually get quite satisfied after each meal, you don't feel hungry anymore.

I do have a sweet tooth at times but I find I can substitute really bad stuff like chocolate and cakes and stuff with certain types of fruit.

A large slice of watermelon almost as a meal replacement and I also put frozen strawberries or mixed berries in my yoghurt and cereals. You only need half a handful because it's power-packed

with flavor, vitamin c, anti oxidants and all the good stuff you need, you don't need a lot of it.

With certain fruits like stone fruits, try and keep them to a minimum of 2 a day because they have quite a bit of sugar in them. It's natural sugar but still sugar. If you're intent on losing weight keep to 2 pieces of fruit a day.

I hope this healthy food guide to weight loss helps you as much as it helped me.
