AND I, another musical which has been done only once. That year Rob Ulven was the King of Siam and Cin-dy Noreen played "Anna" who came to teach the King's many offspring English and other subjects in the royal Siamese palace. This was the first time that "makeup" had to change the students into Siamese people. Rob Ulven wore an amazing "bald cap" for his performance of the King. The large cast of the King's many wives and many children made this musical one of the most memorable of musical productions at HHS. And the students were transformed into realistic look-ing Asians! This was done again in 1982 when FLOWER DRUM SONG was performed with students made up as residents of Chinatown.
It was another amazing makeup job in 1982 along with talent galore in the cast and pit band, once again....there was never a year that the talent faltered in either the students or the directors. The successful musicals just kept on coming, now into decades of productions.
A timeline of all the musicals is long and interesting in that many of
the musicals have been done more than once. We shall begin at the beginning.
1967: MY FAIR LADY, also done in 1976, and 1999.
1968: MUSIC MAN, also done in 1977, 1987, 1995, 2005. MUSIC MAN has been done the most times.
1969: OKLAHOMA, also in 1978 and 1993.
1975: SOUND OF MUSIC, also in 1985 and 1997
1979: SOUTH PACIFIC, and 1992, 2007
1980: GUYS AND DOLLS, and in 1990, 2003
2001 and 2011: GREASE2005 and 2012: JOSEPH AND
HIS AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT

There have been many stars and leading roles in HHS musicals. The leads are too numerous to name them. The supporting casts have been equally talented. The dancing in the musicals has grown more and more professional over the years. The staging and costumes are fantastic and have gone from relatively simple to stunningly beautiful as time has passed. Many of the present costumes are rented from professional costume companies. The lighting and sound production have become almost perfect with few flaws. Early sound was a problem when the musicals were performed in the cavernous 1967 gymnasium. Now the new HS Theater affords a professional stage on which to perform the musicals and the sound and lighting are near professional also.
