If you are reading this then I have failed. Friend, I beg of you, read no further than this. This tome is a work of pure evil. As far as I can tell, it was first written in hieroglyphics sometime in the 13th century BC. That copy was lost in the sands of the Pharaoh until it was unearthed by Professor Grady of the London Museum in 1888. It was discovered in an undisturbed tomb, hidden in the sands near the great statues of Abu Simbal. The Professor’s dig was haunted by accidents, death and even a murder. Once Grady returned to England, he kept the accursed papyrus rather than turn it over to the Museum. He translated it into English, and you are holding that copy in your hands now. The original papyrus was destroyed in a massive fire at his estate, but somehow this translation survived.

It is my belief that the ancient evil energy somehow transferred from the original scroll into this new book as an effort to become accessible to new readers. The things it describes are terrible, and yes, I believe that the book is intelligent, alive, or has some guiding force. The book entered into several private collections; each time the owner passed away in a horrible fashion. When I discovered it amongst my late uncle’s belongings, it drew me in. It seemed as though ultimate power could be within my grasp, if only I followed the book’s precepts.

The book required sacrifices, dark and potent sacrifices, and I almost gave up everything that was important to me. In the end, I was able to turn away from the book, I hope. I have written this [on the inside cover--ed.] as I am preparing to throw myself out into the ultimate inferno. God be with me, and you too, now that you have the book. Destroy it if you can, ignore it if you can’t, and whatever you do ,

DON’T READ IT.

Introduction

Despite the chilling foreword, I can guarantee you that this book is as safe as houses. It was discovered in Japan only a few years ago, and after thorough reading, I felt that this ancient text should be shared with the rest of the world. Unfortunately, the text ends, I think, prematurely. Considering the distance in both time and space that this book has trav-elled, for it to come to publication, it is nothing short of miraculous. Lieutenant Pryce’s research matches my own, and it seems that Profes-sor Grady was able to translate this wonderful poetry in an excellent fashion, and added his own commentary as well, in order to enhance the pleasure and understanding of the reader.

Without access to the original papyrus scrolls, it is impossible to deter-mine their actual dates, although judging by the language used in the poetry it is most likely from the Dynasty of Ramses II.

It is my belief that this treasure belongs to all of mankind. And it is my eternal duty to spread this text as far as possible.

As for the name of the text, the name of the king has not been discov-ered, as all of the cartouches bearing it were destroyed. Sadly, the Aswan Dam project has since destroyed the original tomb and many others that laid undiscovered. We may never find the true name of the Pharoah who penned this artistic treatise, or its intended title.

Abu Simbel is the name of the nearby temple complex built in roughly the same age as the text was written. Since the text had no title, the title that Grady used is quite literally The Book from Abu Simbel. It is hard to believe the length to which some people would go to perpetuate the belief in the mysticism and mythology of our ancestors.
