Summary
“The Global Armored And Counter IED Vehicles Market 2014–2024” offers the reader detailed analysis of the
global armored and counter improvised explosive device (C-IED) vehicles market over the next ten years, and
provides market size forecasts. It covers the key technological and market trends in the armored and counter
IED vehicles market.
The demand for global armored and counter improvised explosive device (C-IED) vehicles is anticipated to be
driven by internal security threats, such as terrorism, threats to sovereign integrity and illegal border infiltration.
The new technological advancements in the sector will also drive demand. The market is expected to be
dominated by Asia Pacific, followed by North America and Europe. The Asia Pacific region accounts for the
highest expenditure in the sector as emerging economies, such as India and China execute extensive
modernization programs for their respective armed forces owing to a number of issues such as territorial
conflicts and terrorism.
“The Global Armored And Counter IED Vehicles Market 2014–2024” provides detailed analysis of the current
industry size and growth expectations from 2014 to 2024, including highlights of key growth stimulators. It also
benchmarks the industry against key global markets and provides a detailed understanding of emerging
opportunities in specific areas.
Key Findings
A major finding in the report entails that the sector demand will be largely driven by internal security
requirements of the armed forces around the world; leading to consistent growth in the market. However, in
the past, the sector has experienced some volatility in the demand as US and NATO countries have
inconsistently increased or decreased spending in the sector based on their involvement in the peach keeping
initiatives around the world. During the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the demand for tanks and armored
vehicles remained high from 2006 to 2010. The funding for on-ground vehicles increased at an annualized rate
of XXX% during the period, largely due to increased demand and popularity of mine-resistant, ambush-
protected vehicles required for military operations in Afghanistan and Iraq. However, the forecast period might
not witness such events taking place and resulting in unprecedented growth in the sector for certain periods.
Overall, the anticipation of threats primarily involving territorial issues has not reduced in any way and more
countries world over are now finding themselves increasingly vulnerable to unanticipated military conflicts.
Therefore, market is expected to remain favorable and is anticipated to attract sustained investment
throughout the forecast period and beyond.
Key Features and Benefits
The report provides detailed analysis of the market for global armored and counter improvised explosive
device (C-IED) vehicles during 2014–2024, including the factors that influence why countries are investing or
cutting expenditure on these segments. It provides detailed expectations of growth rates and projected total
expenditure.

1.2 Global armored and counter IED vehicles market – Regional Analysis
1.2.1 Asia Pacific is expected to lead the global Armored and Counter IED vehicles market
In the forecast period, with XX% market share, Asia Pacific is expected to displace North America as the
largest market for armored and counter IED vehicles. The expenditure in the region is primarily driven by the
Chinese spending on the MBTs and domestic MRAP production program. North America and Europe are also
expected to account for a significant portion of the total global armored and counter IED vehicles market
during the forecast period, with shares of XX% and XX% respectively. Expenditure on armored vehicles in the
European region will be largely driven by the Russian spending to modernize its armed forces. The US, which
has historically been the largest spender, recently cancelled its US$XX billion Ground Combat Vehicles (GCV)
program which has negatively impacted spending in the North American region. The Middle East, Latin
America and Africa account for XX%, XX% and XX% of global armored and counter IED vehicle expenditure
respectively.
The role of major Asian military powers such as India and China will remain paramount over the next decade
in driving sector demand. While the US and Europe will spend less on their armored vehicle capabilities post
the end of the war in Afghanistan, emerging markets such as those in Asia and the Middle East will have a
positive impact on the sector growth.
One of the major factors that will drive growth in the region includes a number of territorial disputes which have
begun to come to prominence in the wake of China’s rise, leading to inevitably heightened tension in the
region. Further, China’s desire to bridge the difference in its military capabilities as compared to the US is also
driving arms procurement in the country. Furthermore, various Asian countries such as Thailand, Singapore,
Japan, India and South Korea are involved in disputes with China in the South China Sea and the Indian
occupied region of Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh, to cite a few examples. These factors are expected to
result in sustained and robust spending on armored vehicles throughout the forecast period.

3 Country Analysis – Global Armored and Counter IED Vehicles Market
3.1 United States Market Size and Forecast 2014–2024
The US has the world’s largest budget for armored and counter IED vehicles, with a total estimated spend of
US$XX billion in 2014, which is expected to increase at a CAGR of XX%, to reach US$XX billion by 2024. It
faces minimal threats along territorial borders, so spending on armored and counter IED vehicles is primarily
driven by overseas military operations. With the beginning of operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, the demand
for armored and counter IED vehicles received a major boost in the first half of the last decade. IEDs posed the
greatest threat to the lives of serving personnel, and had accounted for about XX% of all US fatalities in
Afghanistan by 2009. In an effort to ensure that military forces were equipped with combat ready vehicles, the
US DoD had increased its focus on mine resistant armored vehicles. However, completion of operations in
Afghanistan and withdrawal of troops in 2014 are expected to result in a significant reduction in spending on
armored vehicles. Additionally, sequestration measures undertaken by the government are also expected to
negatively impact the armored vehicles market with the government having cancelled many programs such as
Future Combat System (FCS), Ground Combat Vehicle (GCV) program, and Expeditionary Fighting Vehicle
(EFV) program.
Providing advanced combat ready vehicles at a time of budget cuts, poses a significant challenge to the US
DoD. This has now led to the consolidation of all defense procurement units to identify capability gaps and
eliminate unnecessary redundancies. This initiative has led to the creation of various programs aimed at
replacing and modernizing the existing armored and counter IED vehicles fleet. The proposed procurement of x
Joint Light Tactical Vehicles (JLTV) for the US Army is expected to provide protection and networked mobility
for personnel across the full range of military operations. The program focuses on replacement of approximately
one third of the light wheeled vehicle fleet by 2035 at an estimated investment of US$x billion. Modernization of
Abrams Main Battle Tanks (MBTs) is another program attracting significant investment of US$x billion during
the forecast period.
