BRIEF
From the original brief we received the key points to design for were:
Fashion Design
Bamboo
Given from a student
We looked at existing products which had been designed using bamboo to gain inspiration
BRIEF
We got another set of criteria for the brief, asking us to choose an art style
From looking through each of these we felt that many of the styles were not suitable such as pre-Raphaelite, so we worked with the modernist style
BRIEF
This is the set of criteria and information which we set
We provided large amounts of information about our local culture
As with the brief we received, we set a persona to design for
DIARY
We were asked to produce a diary of what work we had carried out within the first 6 weeks. This included:
Logo concepts
Brainstorming
Research into materials
Looking at gift cultures
CONCEPT ONE
Our first concept was for a desk lamp. The shape was inspired by the flowing lines associated with fashion design, and the natural properties of bamboo
CONCEPT TWO
Our second concept was for a desk organiser. There were some options for different layouts of this.
The first was using strips of bamboo fabric joining together wooden blocks with different uses such as holding pens and a calendar
The second was for a sculpture of a traditional Taiwanese woman with clips on the hands to hold note paper
CONCEPT THREE
Our third concept was for a USB pen which can be sent between the 2 countries
It would be used to exchange documents, photographs, music, recipes and other similar files.
We believe this would be the next step in a form of pen pals
FINAL CONCEPT
We developed the third concept, looking at how the form could be improved to incorporate fashion and bamboo influences more noticeable in the lamp designs
PACKAGING
This is our final solution. A USB pen which is shared between the countries, delivering experiences to the other
It is delivered between the 2 people in the presentation box shown
HOW IT WORKS
We wanted the gift to help continue the relationship
The way in which this will be done is shown in the schematic drawing
HOW IT IS GIVEN
This timeline explains how the gift would be given
It would be handed over at the airport at the end of a visit, containing photos and stories from that visit
CONCLUSION
This is a summary of how we felt the project has progressed and how we feel our solution answers the brief which we were set
QUESTIONS?
Thank you for the opportunity to work with you.
It has been an interesting and exciting project, and it was good to learn about your culture.
