ACCESSORIESOur top 10 recommended accessory products for Business customers

Welcome to our first edition of The Future Business.

This new publication has been designed to be packed

with information and opportunities to help SMEs work

smarter, more securely and compete on a global stage.

From security solutions that provide enterprise-standard

resilience against the omnipresent threat of cyber

attacks to the growing role of Managed Print Services

(MPS) driving much needed efficiency to traditionally

error-strewn print processes, we explore the cutting-

edge technology makeover enhancing many core

business areas.

We also shed some light on the opportunities that

exist within the fast evolving Internet of Things (IoT)

smart technology market, which is now infiltrating

the workplace. No longer the sole domain of large

organisations, a range of exciting and affordable IoT

products - from LightwaveRF solutions controlling the

lighting and powered devices, to self-watering planters

- are set to have a significant bearing on productivity,

while both cutting energy costs and lowering carbon

footprints.

Speaking of enhanced performance, we look at the

arrival of Windows 10 and the opportunities it presents

SMEs. Offering a user-friendly simplicity, it comes with

the kind of cutting-edge features - such as HoloLens

- which mean conference meetings will never be the

same again. The potential for Windows 10 is ripe, but

much of its success will depend on reseller partners to

help convey and communicate its full benefits to end

users.

Finally, with our passion for social media showing little

sign of abating, we offer a practical summary of how

best to exploit the potential online to build your brand

and connect with your customers, while avoiding the

pitfalls which can compromise online integrity. Enjoy

the read.

NEWS IN BRIEF

GARTNER: EXPECT 25BN CONNECTED ‘THINGS’ BY 2020

Gartner expects 4.9bn ‘things’ to be in use in 2015, up 30% from 2014, and will reach 26bn by 2020. The Internet of Things (IoT) has become a powerful force for business transformation and companies will need to embrace and innovate IT infrastructure and security processes to be ready.

This sudden expansion will boost the economic impact of the IoT as consumers, businesses, city authorities, hospitals and many other entities find new ways in which to exploit the technology. Gartner estimates that IoT will support total services spending of £45.2bn in 2015 and £171bn by 2020.

The most disruptive impact and competitive threats/opportunities will come from creating new business models and value propositions. However, information greed must be balanced against security needs.

By the end of 2017, over 20% of organisations are likely to have digital security services to protect business initiatives that use IoT devices and services. Furthermore, CIOs must create new services, usage scenarios and business models.

KASPERSKY LAB CHOOSES EXERTIS

Kaspersky Lab has extended its partnership with Exertis to maximise its B2B channels in the UK. It’s done this because of Exertis’ vast knowledge of the B2B security sector, technical expertise and its broad reach into the micro-seller market. This move strengthens value-add services for Kaspersky Lab resellers, through support and training collaboration with channel partners on deals.

Kaspersky Lab experienced substantial channel growth in the last 12 months having, in 2014, invested heavily in new marketing tools to enable better tracking and conversion of sales leads. This resulted in 42% growth in new resellers.

Kirill Slavin, MD for UK and Ireland at Kaspersky Lab comments, “Protection is about building cyber-resilience into the very heart of operations.”

This is an immense opportunity for the channel.

GfK’s notes that, following a challenging start to the year, the European server market is gaining momentum. Demand in terms of sales units is still negative with a drop of 13% year-on-year, but revenue shows the opposite with growth of 11%. Revenue from large enterprises in particular has grown 14% year-on-year. Cloud and Big Data are driving this positive development, revealing a clear need for better performance in terms of both speed and capacity. GfK expects the server market to slow a little during the second half of 2015 but continue the positive revenue growth with a one-digit year-on-year growth rate. It expects positive demand in terms of units in 2016 as well, partly driven by replacement activities.

It reminds us that, “Even in times of Cloud and Services, IT Hardware is key for accessing and running both!”

MOBILE TECHNOLOGY IN BUSINESS: THE GULF WIDENS

Mobile-savvy technology users offer support to the business but, generally, businesses don’t reciprocate, states CCS Insight’s recent international Mobile Technology Survey.

• 80% see mobile technology as critical to their job and being reachable outside working hours• 68% keep track of work while out of the office or on holiday!• 58% of Germans do this even despite a labour ministry ban

Only a third of companies provide mobile technology that “fully meets the respondents’ needs” and 40% say their IT department is “completely out of touch.” The result is that two thirds resolve IT problems themselves and a third find ways to work around company systems.

Users favour consumer brands such as Apple and Samsung, while traditional workplace brands Lenovo, HP, Dell and BlackBerry score less than ten percent each.

SMARTPHONE SALES ARE POISED TO PEAK IN 2017

The global mobile phone market is expected to reach 2.35bn units in 2019, up from 1.96bn in 2014, according to the latest Worldwide forecast by technology analyst firm CCS Insight.

Despite continued growth in emerging markets, sales in developed markets, notably Western Europe and North America, are close to saturation and are poised to peak in 2017, before falling to lower levels. Other connected gadgets such as tablets, smartwatches and fitness trackers increasingly compete for disposable income. This is where the innovation is.

Apple’s iPhone easily takes the lion’s share of revenue and profit: in 2014, its global Smartphone revenue share reached 37% on a 15.1% share by volume. It already has a foothold in new high growth markets such as China, India and Indonesia where it’s seen as a badge of success.

IoS and Android represent more than 95% of Worldwide Smartphone sales in 2015. However, in 2016, over 30% of Android Smartphone shipments will not offer Google services. The only possible player then is Microsoft.

Gartner, Inc. said that 3D printing (3DP) technology has progressed rapidly in recent years, and that medical applications are leading to some of the most significant deployments of 3DP technology.

If you’re familiar with Gartner’s hype cycle, you’ll find 3D printing (3DP) of medical devices at the peak of ‘Inflated Expectations’. However, you’ll also find that personally tailored medical items, such as hearing aids and dental devices, are leading the charge into the ‘Plateau of Productivity’.

Hip and knee replacements are one of the most common surgical procedures. Early trials of 3DP joints indicate improved healing times and implant function. Gartner predicts that these replacements, as well as other common internal and external medical devices, will be in mainstream use within two to five years. Later, expect bio-printing of cells, proteins, DNA and drugs. This is complex stuff and it will take a while for it to become mainstream.

Expect 3D scanning, 3DP creation software and 3DP service bureaux to mature quickly and help make high quality 3DP more accessible and affordable.

Smart technology is increasingly permeating our lives. Whether at work, rest or play, a high tech intelligent makeover is transforming devices ranging from wrist bands that monitor our sleep and exercise, to advanced sensor technology that remembers our shower routine and how we prefer to boil our kettle. As a result, the Internet of Things (IoT) is now in all our hands.

To date, much of the IoT rhetoric has focused on the emerging intelligent home market and high profile schemes generating a buzz around Smart cities. But attention is turning to how we can better harness the potential of Smart technology in the workplace to drive performance and cut costs and our carbon footprint.

TIME TO WORK SMARTER

The work environment is a place where many of us spend the bulk of our lives, and it is where innovation can prove to be truly transformative. Gartner estimates that by 2020, we will have 26 billion devices connected to the Internet (excluding PCs, Smartphones and tablets) with the Smart technology industry said to be worth

around £18.6 billion by 2020. This creates a considerable opportunity for you if you sell into businesses of any size.

Today, Smart tech is no longer the sole preserve of large organisations. Smaller scale and more affordable solutions are filtering through to a broader demographic and resellers who may have assumed that cost and complexity precluded them from getting in on the ‘Smart’ action, are finding themselves pleasantly surprised.

Fuelled by the increased use of app-driven control interfaces and mobile devices in the workplace, automation systems controlled by the consumer’s existing Smartphone or tablet, is making the technology a far more user-friendly proposition.

PUTTING THE IOT IN EVERYONE’S HANDS

As the most prevalent Smart applications in the UK market - lighting, security and temperature - are natural areas of focus for the smaller business. Setting up Smart devices can be a hassle-free way to save time on maintenance and monitoring while significantly reducing costs and environmental wastage, too.

Yet the simplicity doesn’t dilute the impact or the innovation; the likes of Samsung’s ‘Smart’ print solution and Epson’s ‘Email Print for Enterprise’ addresses one of the biggest sources of frustration in the office. By enabling the customer to control the printing process by printing anywhere and from any device, the bottle necks and jams which heightened the risk of confidential documents sitting uncollected in the out tray, are increasingly consigned to the past.Meanwhile, self-watering planters ensure that the office greenery never becomes parched or neglected, while solutions such as Nest Thermostat uses advanced artificial intelligence to learn the preferred temperature of office workers.

LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION

The latest breed of IoT devicescan bring peace of mind. From the Wi-Fi doorbell ‘doorbot’ - which enables an occupant to see and talk to the visitor before they actually enter the property - to the Coolcam Wireless Wi-Fi Security IP Camera, which enables remote monitoring from a Smartphone or tablet to send a notification if any motion is detected, the latest devices can deliver security as well as increased convenience and energy efficiency.

In addition to enhanced office protection, Smart security measures can help to drive down insurance premiums and lower a company’s bottom line. Most insurers offer a discount on monthly premiums for businesses with security systems and the range of IoT products now available include Smart locks and motion detectors. For broader security considerations, IoT enabled flood alarms and carbon monoxide alarms ensure there is every opportunity to prepare the business for every eventuality.

DRIVING ENERGY EFFICIENCY

Certainly businesses are becoming more concerned about energy efficiency and aware of energy costs. With the roll-out of the Smart meters programme, the UK Government wants all businesses and homes to have a Smart meter by 2020. This will undoubtedly lead to an increased demand for individual and central controls for heating and lighting with development of Smart heating and hot water controls that allow more flexibility than traditional heating controls.

Reducing costs through control of lighting, heating and air conditioning based on temperature, light levels or occupancy and reducing the number of electrical appliances on ‘standby’ mode, can add up to significant cost savings that soon pay for the installation of such systems. Combined, this increases the IoT opportunity for you.

SMARTER EMERGENCY PLANNING

Alongside the nuts and bolts of efficiency improvements, Smart technology comes into its own when helping to address some of the significant and unexpected events that can severely disrupt daily business operations; a notable example being flooding.

Through a partnership between Exertis and Blue Maestro, utilising Bluetooth Smart wireless technology, Blue Maestro’s environmental monitoring system can track temperature, humidity and barometric pressure to provide insight and advanced warning enabling the business to better prepare and take the necessary precautions in the event of a flood. This innovation is driving the kind of interventions that can save businesses between 20% to 90% of the cost of loss stock, while making insurance claims an easier process.

Now the Smart technology ball has started gathering pace, you can be certain that there will be a steady stream of solutions that make both the Smart home and Smart office a reality, connected together by the omnipresent Internet of Things. Why not talk to us about the opportunity the IoT presents, and how we can help you make it a reality for your customers today.

S M A R T E R S E C U R I T Y FOR SMES

As the spate of high profile security breaches testifies, hacked data and its ability to ruin a reputation of a business, remains one of the most prevailing challenges facing businesses today. With attention traditionally focused on the major breaches suffered by large corporations - such as the headline-hogging

attacks at Carphone Warehouse - you could be forgiven for thinking only multinationals are affected.

CLOUD – OPPORTUNITY OR RISK?

Yet as the explosion of Cloud technology creates an increasingly level playing field, smaller companies are finding themselves just as vulnerable to attack. Indeed, the wealth of data that SMEs have at their disposal combined with their typically more rudimentary preventative measures, offers an enticing proposition for hackers.

The upshot is of course compromised data, from intellectual property to private customer information such as payment card details. Then there are the serious cost implications that can come with an attack; latest reports state around £150 per record lost, realising up to an average of £5 million for large enterprises.

While the SME sector has enthusiastically embraced the potential of the Cloud and the Internet for their easy access to a global customer base, many SMEs have remained largely unprepared for the security flipside.

EVER-PRESENT MALWARE AND PHISHING SCAMS

Alongside the opportunities has come a higher level of threat, most notably Malware, now thought to infect up to 45% of emails. Without adequate investment, or indeed the time to make IT security a priority in the day to day running of operation, SMEs are increasingly exposed with many not using data protection for company and customer information, or even a secured company email to prevent phishing scams.

Latest figures from a survey conducted by the Government’s Cyber Essentials programme reveal that two thirds of SMEs still do not consider their business to be vulnerable to a cyber attack while only 16% have prioritised making improvements to their cyber security this year. Alongside the more obvious privacy threats, those without appropriate measures in place could find themselves unwittingly in breach of UK or EU data protection legislation and regulation.

While the SME sector has enthusiastically embraced the potential of the Cloud and the Internet for their easy access to a global customer base, many SMEs have remained largely unprepared for the security flipside.

PROTECTING THE UK’S BUSINESS BACKBONE

This has broader security repercussions; with the SME sector long considered to be the backbone of the UK economy and recently identified as core driver of economic growth, a robust defence has never been more critical.

In fact, in 2013, The Information Security Breaches Survey found some security attacks caused more than £1 million of damage. The survey also found that 87% of small firms experienced a security breach in 2012, up by 10%. Recognising the damage this could cause SMEs - which can cost a small business 6% of its turnover - as well as the overall impact to the economy, the government is offering further funding and guidance, thanks to a £1 million

security innovations vouchers scheme. This gives smaller companies the chance to get £5,000 towards the cost of hiring specialist industry experts to help with digital protection.

THE CHANNEL AS A SECURITY PARTNER

Addressing these risks and this knowledge gap does in fact present a growing opportunity for the channel to take the reins. Not only can it recommend security protection solutions that range from software that scans emails, network or website traffic for possible risks, to solutions that include robust authentication, firewalls and, of course, anti-virus and anti-spam software but the channel can be instrumental in promoting best practice too. This can help to stimulate more security savvy behaviour amongst employees and better appreciation of the monetary value of the data they are handling.

This is an example of value added distribution which is increasingly underpinning the role of the distributor as it shifts from being a wholesaler of the vendor’s products to one that is more closely aligned to that of the tech vendor and developer. As such, the customer is able to harness the distributor’s internal expertise and have access to the knowledge that underpins the proposition.

KEEPING SECURE

A case in point that shows how Exertis works with its reseller partners, is a recent series of seminars we hosted about firewalls, explaining how they are designed to root out breaches before they get a chance to enter a network and compromise security. Our regular seminars are designed to help inform our reseller partners about the entire range of security solutions that we offer.

“There are so many products and solutions around that it can all seem very daunting for small businesses, particularly where the focus is on the daily operations and not IT,” says Managing Director of VAD Solutions Grahame Smee at Exertis.

“If SMEs don’t have a large IT department to protect themselves, the channel needs to act increasingly as an outsourced IT resource ready to assist on site to measure and spot anomalies that can indicate something untoward.”

And with the cyber threats themselves remaining an ever-changing beast, the way in which businesses responds needs to be particularly agile.

“Actually buying the right solution is really only half the battle. Once you have it, you are constantly needing to maintain and update it to ensure it remains effective and fit for purpose,” adds Smee.

“Security has completed shifted from something that was like a big padlocked front door to now being all about visibility and auditing, looking at patterns and behaviours and presenting the findings to the IT manager which means carrying out regular security risk assessments and updates on all software and devices.

“Smaller businesses face exactly the same challenges as the largest enterprise customer and require as just a sophisticated solution as their larger counterparts,” he concludes.

When you need a high-performance, flexible wireless solution, take a close look at the TP-LINK EAP range. With all the functionality users expect from a ceiling mounted, business class access point with free controller software, it means users can control, adjust and visualise the entire network from any connected PC free of charge, a very popular feature with busy network managers across all verticals.

The centralised management platform enables users to configure and automatically synchronise unified wireless settings to all EAPs within the network and even batch firmware updates. For day-to-day network optimisation, the controller software provides the traffic status for each EAP including the number of clients and data usage in real-time. When combined with the ability to fine tune individual access point settings, and upload floor plans to visualise the network, optimisation becomes easy.

Recent surveys show that demand for Wi-Fi is at an all-time high. Hotel guests consider free and fast Wi-Fi more important than even free cocktails. To feed this appetite for connectivity, the captive portal feature provides a secure guest network that requires users to perform certain actions before network access is granted for example; verification from an external portal server or customised database, or entering a pre-defined user ID and password.

THE SEVEN GOLDEN RULES OF BUSINESS

As experts in helping small businesses succeed in today’s dynamic and highly competitive environments, we’ve asked the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) to provide a regular advisory feature in Future Business. The FSB promotes and protects the interests

of self-employed businesses and small firms with a range of best practice advice and services on current UK tax, legislation, health and safety and employment issues.

At the FSB we understand the daily pressures, trials and tribulations that starting and running a technology business brings.

We get it. You’re experts in software applications and IT components and running a business is a whole different World to the day job. However, get it wrong and the consequences could leave you with a real financial blue screen!

When you run your own business - with hindsight not included - mistakes are sometimes inevitable. But there are a few things you can do to avoid them and ensure the best possible start. Here’s our list of our seven small business sins.

KEEP FINANCIAL RECORDS UP TO DATE

Admin might not be your ‘thing’ but keeping financial records is a legal requirement when you’re running a business. HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) overtly states: “You must keep records of all your business transactions”. It also states: “If you do not keep adequate records or you do not keep your records for the required period of time, you may have to pay a penalty.”

What usually happens is that instead of making a note of the cost and date, people will get to the end of the month and end up ‘guesstimating’ how much they have incurred. Without the right paperwork and files in order, HMRC can easily – and frequently will – challenge a business. Not what you want for the sake of keeping business admin in check.

1DISCUSS YOUR BUSINESS WOES…

If you’d like to discuss your business woes or to feel empowered with more info give

us a call or join us online. The FSB team is here to offer advice and talk through how we can help you avoid small business sins.

For more information visit www.fsb.org.uk/join or call 0808 1688 486 to chat with one of our team quoting TFB1.

UNDERSTAND YOUR AUDIENCE

Your audience i.e. the people who will buy your services or products are one of the most important aspect of your business and without them, well, you wouldn’t really have a business.

You need to know who you are targeting and make sure you communicate effectively, across every channel, to reach that desired and much needed audience.

Who is your target market? What do they do? How old are they? What communication channels do they use? How much do they earn? What do they eat for breakfast? Once you have figured that out, it’s also important to know your business and how your audience can benefit from your services.

DON’T ALWAYS OFFER DISCOUNTS

We all know that people like a bargain, but slashing prices to gain customers may not be the best way forward. While customer acquisition is important, retaining them is even more valuable. So it’s better in the long run to focus on building a loyal customer base that responds to exceptional service rather than customers who are tempted on an irregular basis by cheap prices. After all you do normally ‘get what you pay for’.

BE OPTIMISTIC

One of the biggest obstacles of starting a new business is fear. Learning to deal with risk and overcoming your fear of failure will be one of the best lessons you can learn in the World of business. Changing your concept of failure and being more solutions focused will fuel positivity and install a belief that nothing will stop you but your own fear. Failure is unpleasant but it’s not the end of the World and if you do end up making a mistake, it can be an opportunity to learn what went wrong, and in turn, ensure you don’t make the same error next time.Starting a business is one of the most fulfilling experiences of your life, so don’t let the fear of failure hold you back.

RESEARCH YOUR MARKET PLACE

When entering a new market place you need to be aware of who you are competing against. Failing to acknowledge your competitors is foolish and will no doubt be a costly error. There will naturally be well established businesses wherever and whichever market place you enter so you need to find inventive and creative ways to grab their customers’ attention.

Your first step should be to position yourself as a credible alternative and lure their loyalty by building trust as a basis for a long-term relationship. It’s important for new busi-nesses to be able to communicate unique selling points to attract people away from the competition and provide a superior service to encourage repeat custom.

PLAN AHEAD

Not having a plan is like having a laptop with no battery life! A business plan is required to map out your long term success and ensure you outline specific actions that need to take place to improve your business objectives and overarching goals. Business plans also allow you to keep on track of your finances. According to research by finance software provider, Exact, 70 per cent of companies with a plan turned a profit, compared to 52 per cent of businesses without a plan. So, what are you waiting for?

CELEBRATE YOUR SUCCESS

Last but not least, celebrate your successes. There are so many benefits of celebrating successes. If you mark your accomplishments with a celebration they will be remembered in the future. It will bring together your team and make them feel appreciated. It’s also a reminder of all the hard work you put in to achieve your goals. Incorporating success into the culture of your business will also keep your staff motivated to continuously thrive.

TIME TO GET MORE SOCIAL WITH YOUR CUSTOMERS

With the potential to be a greater leveller in business, social media has emerged as one of the game changers in helping smaller players broaden their reach and even compete on a global stage. Largely free, accessible and simple to use, LinkedIn and Twitter in

particular have proven to be enduring channels through which businesses can reach their target demographic and establish a presence and regular dialogue.

Now a core weapon in the SME’s armoury, a savvy use of social media can drive brand awareness and establish that all important customer engagement online. Here’s our handy hints about getting the best out of social media, with tips on how to create posts that customers actually read and respond to.

DON’T BE SHY!Used strategically, social media can transition seamlessly to become social selling by ‘warming up’ sales leads through targeted and meaningful interaction with the prospect as well as strengthening and consolidating relationships with existing customers. While you have their attention, this becomes the perfect opportunity to drive them to your website. Social media encourages people to interact, so make sure you allow this to happen. Be creative and post questions, conversation starters and interesting polls, as well as the latest deals. Building a positive rapport between you and your audience is key. Ensure you always respond to feedback quickly and positively. A company that is seen to be interesting, engaged, and entertaining will soon find itself with a glowing reputation.

BE STRATEGIC A light touch is best if the benefits are to be fully reaped and businesses need to be discerning. As an area ripe for fads, fuelled by the diverse array of channels, it can be tempting to try and build a presence across every platform available, fearful of missing out or being left behind. The secret to social media success is to strategically identify one or two channels and be fully committed to these which in the B2B World tend to be LinkedIn and Twitter, with the more visual focus of Facebook and Instagram proving popular with a B2C audience.

BE TOPICALThe reach and real time interaction of social media makes it a powerful platform on which to have a voice, so it is essential to use it wisely. Whether you are dealing with prospects, colleagues or customers, no one appreciates a hard sell no matter how many emojis are added. Therefore, it is essential to ensure content is topical, informative, relevant and engaging, which is far more likely to establish an ongoing dialogue than sales-led fluff.

KEEP IT UPBEATSocial media can be a great form of entertainment, and one thing that will keep people coming back is if you have a little fun with your posts. But ensure that you keep things both ‘family friendly’ and light though, so try avoiding any touchy or controversial subjects that could flare up. Positive stories about businesses that go viral often involve a good sense of humour on behalf of the business and the reader.

WHY THE LATEST FROM WINDOWS IS THE PERFECT 10 FOR SMES

There has been a buzz surrounding the arrival of Windows 10 and it’s more than justified. The big question is, is it good for business?

Initially, it would appear that this feature-rich platform is a particularly strong proposition for SMEs with the capabilities to drive innovation, redefine productivity and offer enterprise level security for the most robust defence from the omnipresent threat of cyber attack.

There’s also the promise of an all new browser – Microsoft Edge – which the company claims has been built to deliver a better web experience. Cortana, Microsoft’s intelligent personal assistant and knowledge navigator is present in Windows 10, too, while new management and deployment features should make life easier for businesses of all sizes.

Microsoft claims that all of this functionality is wrapped up in an accessible, user-friendly package, so it’s little surprise that the company has a bold intent for Windows 10 to become the operating system for all platforms. Fuelled by a level of investment that plans to see it installed on a billion devices, we think it’s a vision that you can help become even closer to reality.

Dubbed the most “personal Windows yet” the introduction represents a significant opportunity for your business, which has a key role to play in helping your customers to successfully upgrade and migrate to Windows 10. By communicating its potentially game-changing benefits, it is an excellent engagement opportunity for you to reconnect with your customers.

Exertis’ General Manager of Computing, Simon Barnard, agrees. “My initial impression is that Windows 10 looks very impressive and has many neat touches.”

LIFE THROUGH A LENS

Also set to make a mark, by quite literally bringing a conference meeting to life is, HoloLens. Essentially, smart glasses in the form of a holographic headset, the device’s advanced sensors can generate a hologram effect of the wearer’s vision to create 3D objects in the real World. A speaker being watched on a conference webcast is now brought to life by appearing in 3D on the screen resulting in a more engaging and immersive experience for all participants. We think that for your SME customers that can’t afford to spend time away from the office in meetings, this is the next best thing to being there.

ENTERPRISE LEVEL SECURITY FOR SMES

Perhaps most significantly of all, Windows 10 demonstrates that the most stringent security need not be the sole domain of the large corporation with the budget to match. Smaller operations will be afforded the same peace of mind thanks to the diverse protection package which permeates the offering.

Recognising that security is an ongoing concern, Windows 10 users have access to hardware-based security that provides enhanced malware protection in the form of Device Guard, Windows Hello and Microsoft Passport. Furthermore, there is the functionality to replace passwords with more secure options such as biometrics and hardware-based multi-factor authentication, with much of the complexity taken out of implementation and deployment. Meanwhile, historic data breaches have been studied in detail to inform the feature and prevent repeat performance.

A HASSLE-FREE AND CONSISTENT USER EXPERIENCE

Digging deeper at the heart of the offering, is a combination of the new and familiar. Previously, the decision to remove the Start menu did not always translate well to the rigours of the business environment, where some of Windows 8’s usability issues could ultimately stifle productivity.

Therefore, Windows 10 is very much a best of breed antidote with a straightforward reboot and bolstered by a wide range of apps. Designed to work on customers’ existing devices, the platform delivers both style and substance with its similarities to Window 7 delivering a recognisable user experience and removing the anxieties that arise with needing to learn a new operating system.

Importantly, for the cash and time-strapped smaller business, much of the set up is already in place, reducing the need for extra employee training and technical support.

INTERACTION DRIVEN BY THE INDIVIDUAL

Given the changing ways people work today, Windows 10 integrates the Cloud with the PC, meaning it can be adapted for use on phones, laptops and the many ‘Bring Your Own Devices’, running effortlessly on the smallest form factors to the largest screens, along with the main corporate network. This ensures your customers can now branch-out across multiple devices, yet still enjoy a unified and consistent user experience.

Furthermore, users can interact through their preferred method, be it mouse and keyboard, touch or voice, affording a level of control and choice which can prove to be a major factor when generating buy in. With tasks such syncing a Bluetooth device or changing a new laptop’s desktop resolution addressed automatically, employee time that would otherwise be spent on such tasks is freed up.

WHERE SIMPLICITY AND SOPHISTICATION MERGE

The simplicity and ease of use that defines the overall experience, does not appear to involve any compromise to the depth of innovation on offer with Windows 10.

For instance, another standout feature includes Surface Hub - which is pioneering an increasingly collaborative approach to meetings by combining Skype and HD video - to give video conferencing a sleek makeover.

In essence, this giant tablet with a touch screen display enables several participants to gather around and interact instantly and at once with minimum fuss. Housing several of Microsoft’s kinect motion sensors, the screen can notice and pick up audio in the room and be run on any app. It’s set to replace some of the traditional components such as teleconference technology and projectors with their accompanying cables and chaos.

TIME TO SELL THE OPPORTUNITY…For resellers, there will be an opportunity to manage third party software and applications that

need to be modified on end users’ computers as well installing improved video cards to support new features unable to be accommodated by older hardware.

To learn more about how to capitalise on the many opportunities presented by Windows 10, why not talk to Exertis today.

DAVID WEEKS, SENIOR WINDOWS PRODUCT MARKETING MANAGER AT MICROSOFT

PERSONALLY, WHAT EXCITES YOU MOST ABOUT WINDOWS 10?

Today, Windows is used by over 1.5 billion people across the World. So what excites me about Windows 10? Well Windows 10 represents the first step of a whole new generation of Windows. Windows 10 unlocks new experiences for customers to work, play and connect.

WHAT OPPORTUNITIES DO YOU THINK THE NEW WINDOWS 10 WILL BRING FOR RESELLERS?

It’s free – so your customers will want it! This gives you the opportunity to reengage with your customers, while helping them to upgrade you should look at the attach opportunities - Office 365, Enterprise Mobility Suite (EMS), & Azure. Windows 10 will also run on a variety of form factors. It has options from the smallest form factors to the largest screens. This gives you additional choices to find the right Windows device for your customer’s scenarios and to unlock new hardware sales. With the new management and deployment features it reduces the burden on your business therefore increasing your ROI.

WHAT ARE THE KEY FEATURES WINDOWS 10 BRINGS TO THE MARKET THAT WILL EXCITE USERS WHICH WEREN’T AVAILABLE IN PREVIOUS EDITIONS...?

There are so many new features; Cortana your personal digital assistant, Windows Hello, Microsoft Edge, Multiple Desktops, Continuum, and Enhanced Snap. Additionally, New Universal Applications running alongside traditional desktop and Xbox gaming to name a few.

YOU’VE BROUGHT BACK THE START MENU, WHY DID YOU DO THIS AND HOW HAS IT CHANGED?

The Start menu is back based on customer feedback. It’s seen as the most important thing that will make the desktop experience familiar to users.

TELL US SOME MORE ABOUT MICROSOFT EDGE, WHAT ARE THE KEY FEATURES THAT MAKE THIS NEW BROWSER STANDOUT?

Windows 10 comes with an all-new browser - Microsoft Edge - this is built to give you a better web experience. Microsoft Edge will have rich experiences built in such as Cortana which will help people get in-depth particulars of the search without going anywhere else on the Internet. For example, you searched for ‘Windows Phone’ and the browser opened a webpage with its review. Cortana will pop-up with a blue circle on the browser toolbar, which will show you related information about the product like specifications, accessories, etc. There’s also reading-mode that will remove all things that can interrupt the reader while reading such as ads, images, etc.

Page Annotations is another new feature which has never been seen before in other browsers. This feature helps users to draw directly onto a web page with a highlighter or drawing tool or for non-touch devices you type text on the web page and share it easily via email or on of the social networks. For businesses that require Internet Explorer this will still be available.

THE INSIDE TRACK ON WINDOWS 10

WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF WINDOWS 10 FOR BUSINESS AND ENTERPRISE USERS, CAN YOU TELL US MORE ABOUT THIS?

Well there are two big topics here, so I will pull out a few of the major updates around Security & Manageability.

SECURITYWindows 10 has hardware based security for better malware protection with Secure Boot, when Windows starts on the device, one of the very first actions it will take is to start the Windows Trusted Boot feature. This feature protects the Windows system core (kernel), privileged drivers, and system defences such as an antimalware solution. The idea here that if Windows can prevent malware from being able to start early in the boot process and before system defences have started, then Windows can prevent malware from hiding from those defences. BitLocker protects data when a device is lost or stolen using full disk encryption. BitLocker is Windows’ solution for this scenario and it offers enterprise-quality, full-disk encryption. BitLocker also includes a feature called BitLocker-to-Go, which can protect users’ data when it’s stored on removable drives, such as USB thumb drives. BitLocker has also been updated in Windows 10 and eliminates the need for a PIN on most devices and Windows can now provide users a single sign-on experience that still maintains the performance, reliability and deployment benefits that have made BitLocker great. Maybe more important, Windows’ solution will better meet users’ security expectations.

MANAGEABILITYIn-place upgrades are the way to go, we have done a huge amount of work, so Windows does the work for users. With an in-place upgrade, migrating to Windows 10 from Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 can be done without reinstalling Windows from scratch, preserving users’ data, apps and drivers as required. Coming from Windows 8.1 is a similar process to the Windows 8.1 Update that was done through the Windows Store, so users will be up and running on Windows 10 quickly. It will be fast and reliable, with automatic rollback in the event any issues are encountered. Setting up new devices has been simplified. When users buy a new device with Windows 10 pre-installed, we will also provide new capabilities to help transform a new device from its initial out-of-box configuration into a fully-configured business device. So you can now take off-the-shelf PC hardware and apply what we call a ‘provisioning package’ which produces a single file to apply to users’ devices that specifies IT policies, provides edition upgrades, installs drivers, and enrolls in MDM solutions. The file can be applied through a variety of techniques, including over email, with a USB key, SD cards and even across a network. Now, users can have

their own hardware ‘image’ without doing any of the traditional ‘imaging’. Additionally, we will now be delivering continuous updates via Windows update and will offer customers a choice between continuous and immediate updates, frequent and more proven updates, and a ‘security and patches only’ update model for long-term stability. For more information on both Security and Manageability you should refer to the Windows Business Blog: http://blogs.windows.com/business/

WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO RELEASE WINDOWS 10 AS A FREE UPGRADE?

We are computing in different times. Windows 10 is free so app developers can standardise on one platform and reduce the fragmented market of different versions and editions of Windows that have been an issue in the past. When everybody is on the same platform, it means better quality apps, a healthier ecosystem and more advances in hardware.

WHAT SHOULD WE EXPECT FROM OUR OEM PARTNERS AROUND WINDOWS 10?

I would expect to see new 2:1 devices and Convertibles to take advantage of Continuum. There will also be new devices that enable Windows Hello & Microsoft Passport and Device Guard. Windows Hello is an authentication system that can use a variety of biometric signatures, such as finger prints, facial or iris recognition and combines hardware and software to allow for secure user recognition and sign-in. Microsoft Passport eliminates the need for writing down all those passwords users need to sign on to their device and online services so offers enterprise-grade security and privacy as the password is bound to the device and not shared on any Microsoft servers for a hacker to potentially compromise. Finally a new Windows 10 feature called Device Guard, which aims to give administrators full control over what software can or cannot be installed on a device. It provides better security against malware and zero days for Windows 10 by blocking anything other than trusted apps - which are apps that are signed by specific software vendors, the Windows Store, or even a user’s own organisation.

WHAT VERTICALS DO YOU THINK WILL SEE SPECIFIC BENEFITS FROM WINDOWS 10?

This is the easiest one to answer, Windows 10 is designed for everyone, there are features to meet the needs of any business from the smallest SOHO to the largest enterprise across all segments.

REMOTE ACCESS AND CONTROL FOR ENTERPRISE DATA CENTRES

THE EMERSON SOLUTION With the Avocent® ACS 6000 advanced console server, your customers’ administrative staff has the capability to securely access the serial management consoles of the critical infrastructure over the network. In this situation, it allows administrators to remotely connect to the primary router, even though the network interface is down due to a service provider outage. With that information in hand, a quick call to the provider to report the outage is performed without the need to deploy staff on-site to diagnose a dead uplink. Regarding the damaged network connection, the ACS 6000 allows users to connect both to the upstream switch, which is visible via the management network, but also allows your customers unhindered access to downstream devices via their serial management interfaces. This damaged copper link can cause enough packet loss to hinder network access to downstream devices. However, the serial links provide the ability to continue diagnosis of the situation from a remote location. This capability allows the administrative staff to isolate the issue to a single link, and deploy a technician directly to the fault location with the correct equipment and tools to perform a quick repair.

PROBLEM Your customers have just lost contact with the primary router for the production network on the ERP server farm. Failover was successful and the secondary router has picked up all the traffic, but there’s another problem. During a recent equipment move to rebalance the power load, one of the copper switch interconnects on the secondary network was damaged. The network is experiencing significant signal degradation on that link that was undetected until the traffic load failed over to the redundant network. It has effectively cut off fifteen percent of the compute capacity in this cluster. Sales order entry is being impacted and your customers are losing tens of thousands of dollars every minute that this degradation continues. What’s the next step?

COMPLICATED ISSUES REQUIRE FLEXIBLE SOLUTIONS.”

DRIVING THE WLAN REVOLUTION WITH

HUAWEI

Wireless networking demands are increasing exponentially. Most users now have more than one device that needs to be connected at all times as the explosion in mobile devices in the consumer and business arenas continue. It’s not just user and device

numbers that are becoming more demanding, the type of content is also becoming increasingly data heavy. Netflix accounts for 37% of Internet traffic, the Sochi Olympics will be entirely live streamed after YouTube’s summer Olympics stream garnered 500,000 users at its peak. All 32 NFL clubs offer instant video replay to phones and tablets in their stadiums and in 2015 it is estimated that 50% of all online video will be streamed to a wireless device. All of this means that where before an SMB or low end wireless infrastructure may have sufficed, more and more end users are demanding a superior wireless experience.

At the heart of this end-to-end IT infrastructure solution is consistent network reliability and content delivery. Huawei’s WLAN is an extremely versatile proposition, evidenced by the scope of sectors and environments it is deployed in. From sports stadiums, oil fields, air and rail travel, hospitals and classrooms, the solutions can weather a variety of terrains, temperatures and the challenges of high density usage. Passengers can watch online TV and browse the Internet during flights, oilfield owners can conduct real-time monitoring of oil well sites, while those working underground in mines benefit from a wireless solution for greater safety and efficiency.

A SOLUTION FOR EVERY ENVIRONMENT

While the environments are undoubtedly diverse, a common theme that runs throughout each user scenario is the need for a cost-efficient broadband wireless network which ensures the critical infrastructure runs seamlessly while being easy to maintain.

Huawei’s WLAN solution meets these needs and has a transformative impact, from enhancing collaboration and interaction between users, to even changing the way people work and learn.

At Wellfield Middle School, Whitley Bay for instance, Huawei answered the call for a robust and affordable WLAN solution. Here, a mobile makeover, courtesy of the Huawei AR1 200 series router and Huawei S5700 enterprise switches, has given the entire learning experience a radical overhaul.

Once confined to the environs of a designated ICT room, advanced

network technology now permeates the whole school thanks to a wireless network that has made the use of iPads and Chromebooks widespread amongst the 300-strong school community. Greater access to technology has led to a more efficiency for teachers, while enhancing student engagement with the learning process.

ENHANCING THE EXPERIENCE FOR FOOTBALL FANS

Improved engagement and interaction is also in evidence in an altogether different sphere at Ibrox Stadium, home to Glasgow Rangers and one of the largest and oldest football venues in British history. Here, a fully integrated Wi-Fi network connects the four stands, enabling 51,000 fans to interact and keep informed of the latest club news through a designated social media platform.

Combined with a number of value-added services including online shopping and lotteries, the deployment has resulted in a significantly stronger proposition for the club’s supporters, building brand loyalty and an enriched overall experience.

INDEPENDENT VALIDATION

With a high number of users and significant operations at stake, choosing a WLAN vendor is a big decision. That is why independent research comparing the performance of leading WLAN market players can offer important facts about the strengths and weaknesses of each solution.

The Tolly Group, a global provider of third party validation services for IT vendors, found Huawei consistently outperformed competitors such as Aruba networks and Cisco, in a series of tests designed to measure throughput levels. Buyers can rest assured then that a Huawei solution is more than class competitive.

But a stellar solution is only part of the issue. Successful deployment hinges on astute planning if the strongest signal coverage is to be secured with specific planning tools and third party support having a part to play. To that end, Huawei’s WLAN Planner takes information on the specific environment, level of users and bandwidth requirements of a single user to calculate the number of access points required.

That, combined with pre-sales certification on this solution, means that Exertis is able to further assist with the wireless planning process and deployment, driving more opportunities to get on board with Huawei’s extensive mobility, connectivity and IoT portfolio.

HYPER CONVERGENCE SET TO TRANSFORM THE INTEGRATED SYSTEMS MARKET

Nothing stands still in the World of technology. Today, the established converged infrastructure players are feeling the pressure being applied by providers of Hyper Converged Integrated Systems (HCIS), offering to deliver ‘hyper

convergence’ to organisations both small and large.

SHAKING UP THE ESTABLISHMENT

For years, the established models of Integrated Stack Systems (ISS) and Integrated Infrastructure System (IIS) were deemed perfectly acceptable, with their compute, network and storage functions being tweaked and scaled as resource requirements changed as the organisation grew or merged with others. To keep on top of their compute, network and storage requirements, many IT departments within organisations had teams responsible for maintaining each function.

Hyper convergence builds on the ISS and IIS models, to take converged infrastructures to the next level by much more tightly binding compute, network and storage hardware. Unlike ISS and IIS, it does away with the conventional Storage Area Network (SAN). In this case, the Storage Management functions – along with essential elements like back-up, recovery, replication, deduplication and compression – are delivered more conveniently through a management software layer (and/or hardware).

DELIVERING NEW EFFICIENCIES TO CONVERGENCE

For end users, there are multiple benefits to the hyper converged model. Typically, the compute, network and storage hardware are supplied by one vendor, delivering increased simplicity, ease of management, a simplified architecture, reduced complexity, lower overall costs and easier upgrade paths. Another benefit - and a key one for hard-pressed technical support teams – is that a single vendor offering delivers the convenience of one number to call in the event of any technical issues or problems, thus negating the need for an IT team to have experts in compute, network and storage solutions.

GARTNER’S VISION OF A HYPER-CONVERGED FUTURE

Of course, with any new or emerging technology, it is always wise to establish whether it is a true game-changer or just a flash-in-the-pan. In the case of hyper convergence, research and advisory company, Gartner, states that hyper converged systems will represent over 35% of total integrated system market revenue by 2019.

With that figure in mind, demand for hyper converged solutions is likely to be on the up. This is the ideal time to start talking to your customers about hyper convergence, not least to those who either have limited IT resources or, at the other end of the scale, are at a point now where by they are struggling to effectively maintain their existing ISS or IIS. It is also a simplified sale too, given that a hyper converged solution is sold as a complete solution, so less time is spent checking configuration and compatibility between server storage and network hardware and application software.

With years of experience representing leading providers of integrated systems, Exertis is ideally placed to guide you through the hyper convergence revolution, so why not contact us today to learn more.

the Internet, access social media, bank and shop online. Ofcom’s 2015 Communications Market Report finds that a third (33%) of Internet users see the easily accessible Smartphone as the most important device for going online, compared to 30% who are still sticking with their laptop.

Today, mobile technology comes before PCs and laptops; most people with a tablet will agree that they will reach out for the tablet before powering up their laptop or PC. Another recent study from Ofcom shows that in 2015, over half of UK households (54%) now have a tablet, up from just 2% in 2011. Tablets are proving particularly popular among people aged 35 to 54 with nearly two thirds of this age group (64%) having one. Plus the trend looks set to continue, with 21% of households currently without a tablet stating they were likely to get one within the next 12 months.

BRING ON THE MOBILE WORKER

As such, we are now well into the era of mobile working, and the Smartphone encapsulates this ability in a unique way, with its ability to enable people to work from wherever they choose and remain in touch via video conferencing to social networking. This therefore opens up the realm of flexible working, with around 96% of firms already offering some form of flexibility [Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development 2012].

The mobile office means flexible working is truly possible; employees are no longer confined to the office, or by a nine to five schedule. Mobility allows staff to work when and where they work best, and to work from out in the field rather than having to travel back to the office before they can file reports, find contacts, or check stock levels. Staying connected to the Internet with the best 4G networks and Wi-Fi solutions, having access to standardised technology that enables us to work while on the move with widely used mobile platforms such as Android and Windows 10, to being able to use cutting-edge apps, is key in making our work days simple and efficient.

“OTHERS HAVE SACRIFICED FUNCTIONALITY FOR DESIGN, BUT NOT US. THIS BATTERY CHARGES FASTER THAN ANY OTHER IN THE INDUSTRY. ON A 10 MINUTE CHARGE YOU CAN HAVE FOUR HOURS OF EVERYDAY USE, AND TO GET TO 100% CHARGE IT TAKES LESS THAN 50% OF THE TIME THAT AN IPHONE 6 TAKES”

With BYOD on the rise, the continuing problem for IT departments in enterprises, or the person tasked with dealing with that area in a small business, is how to resolve the problem of maintaining network security with responding to employee and management demand for access to the company network via personal devices.

The proliferation of Smartphones and tablets, coupled with employees wanting to use these devices to access corporate networks, has multiplied the number of access points to organisations’ sensitive networks, applications and data, and forced companies to consider all manner of BYOD, choose your own device (CYOD) or company-issued, personally-enabled (COPE) policies.

This issue is normally solved by either setting tough limits on employees’ access the network on their tablets and Smartphones, or by using various security technologies and policies to manage access. With the latter the better option for all concerned, some companies, such as Microsoft and Samsung, are working to make it simpler for companies to incorporate their mobile devices into the business.

Many mobile device manufacturers today are already aiding businesses in the protection of our devices and data. From mobile device management to biometric security to tracking, tracing and wiping device from remote locations, it can all be done to protect the enterprise.

Only available on Samsung Android, KNOX 2.4 brings defence-grade security and privacy to the Smartphone. Using the intuitive Smart Manager widget, businesses are able to protect both hardware and content with built-in Anti-Malware and KNOX Active Protection device security.

POWERING THE MOBILE ENTERPRISE

Also, for the first time ever, Samsung has created a built-in battery for each version of the S6, which means business users will no longer need to worry about running out of ‘juice’ just when they need their Smartphone the most.

Justin Denison, vice president, product strategy and marketing at Samsung Electronics America, said at the launch of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge at Mobile World Congress 2015: “Others have sacrificed functionality for design, but not us. This battery charges faster than any other in the industry. On a 10 minute charge you can have four hours of everyday use, and to get to 100% charge it takes less than 50% of the time that an iPhone 6 takes.” Meanwhile, for the Galaxy S6 edge+, upgrades to excite the business user abound; with wired charging, the device can be fully charged in approximately 90 minutes, and through wireless, just 120 minutes.

The Galaxy S6 edge+ has also been upgraded by Samsung to support SideSync, which offers both wireless and wired PC-Smartphone integration for seamless connections across devices. Thanks to auto-detection, people can connect their

Samsung device to their PC or tablet for easy access to files and data across all platforms and operating systems.

No matter what an enterprise is faced with due to the increasing desire for mobility, there is technology to suit all needs and requirements.

MOBILITY TAKING OVER THE TRADITIONAL OFFICE

By 2017, Gartner predicts that 50% of employees will have mobile devices for work purposes. Mobile is becoming ever-more the norm in British offices, with the majority of UK workers surveyed by mobile operator EE stating they believe tablets are set to replace laptops in the workplace within the next 10 years; while 52% said tablets will rule the office, a further 36% say it will happen even sooner. Almost a third (31%) of those surveyed by EE said that laptop usage in the workplace is declining, with a quarter (24%) stating they previously used laptops for work purposes, but have now made the transition to tablets.

In fact a study from Vodafone, ‘The New IT Crowd’, shows that 77% of organisations are happy to let their staff use BYOD, with the same percentage of staff feeling it makes them more productive, 72% stating it increases their responsiveness, and 81% saying it enables better collaboration.

As a manufacturer traditionally seen in the office from a software perspective, Microsoft’s Lumia Smartphones come with an entire range of key business features for a company’s needs, while business apps and Microsoft services allow companies and staff alike to not only get more done faster, but also get there faster with maps and navigation built-in.

Lumia Smartphones are ready to support business, with Microsoft services; included with each device is Office 365 with Word, Excel, PowerPoint; users have the ability to access and edit important documents on the go with OneDrive for Business; plus all the core Outlook functionality for mobile – email, calendar, notes and contacts – is automatically synced across all employees’ devices.

Access to standardised technology that enables users to work while on the move with widely used mobile platforms such as Windows 10 and Android is key in making daily business life efficient. Combining that with cutting-edge virtual assistants such as Microsoft’s Cortana, gives users the ability to maintain a work-life balance.

Samsung’s approach is for top of the range devices that work for both personal and business life. The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge, as well as the new Galaxy S6 edge+, are designed to take users from work to play. The Galaxy S6 has a powerful octa core 64 bit operating system that means true multi tasking across a variety of productivity applications is possible, keeping businesses running on the go. The Galaxy S6 also enables seamless connection with line-of-business applications through Single Sign On support and other enterprise-ready features.

KEEPING THE NETWORK SAFE

Vodafone’s report shows that 53% of IT directors have experienced significant demand for BYOD. Yet 91% of IT directors are concerned about implementing BYOD and 59% think security is a major issue thanks to the need to align multiple operating systems. This complexity is adding 19% more time to the IT manager’s management of the mobile estate.

A HOTBED OF POTENTIAL

With MPS contracts typically spanning over three years and generating an average 400% profit, this is a lucrative avenue to tap into. For many resellers, this is unfamiliar territory, and a third party like Exertis can be critical in addressing the knowledge gap.

Therefore, the role of the distributor cannot be underestimated in providing the support and tools to help resellers optimise and manage their customers’ print and MFP fleets, while lowering their operating costs.

It’s an approach in evidence at Exertis, which is currently working with a host of vendors including Lexmark, Oki, Ricoh, Samsung and Epson to offer resellers a package of value-added services such as pre-delivery inspection, goods installation and access to software providers that help make print more manageable.

CUSTOMER ENGAGEMENT

Perhaps most significantly, by exploring MPS, resellers have the chance to deepen their engagement with customers and explore wider commercial opportunities.

For example, this initial offering can evolve into managed document service solutions. This is in turn creates an opportunity for the reseller and customer to work in partnership to drive the most appropriate strategy and solutions for the business. From streamlining the document workflow for easier archiving to the enhanced retrieval and sharing of documents across the organisation for example this becomes a tangible example of added value.

Achieving up to 30% in cost savings and driving far greater efficiencies, Managed Print Services (MPS) are becoming an intrinsic feature of the modern workplace.

Equipped to meet the demands of a fast evolving operational climate, largely driven by the explosion in data, these latest multi-purpose solutions also help organisations of all sizes address compliance and security challenges, while adhering to environmental policies.

All in all an MPS is a strong proposition which brings some much-needed consistency and peace of mind to an area that has long been blighted by inefficiency and waste.

AN ATTRACTIVE PROPOSITION FOR SMES

Helping companies reclaim control over the print is the reason why a growing number of SMEs are adopting this approach, safe in the knowledge that this core function can be taken care of with installation, maintenance, supplies and support all delivered through an inclusive, ongoing contract. With all bases covered, a business is able to focus on the its daily operation without the worry of spiralling costs associated with an ad-hoc approach to stocking, purchasing and replacing print consumables.

Fittingly, the enthusiasm for MPS is translating into an extremely profitable market, now worth £240,000 million in the UK alone. As the largest growth area of the print industry, the opportunities for the channel are huge, though currently under exploited, a situation which the savviest of resellers are set to change. The nature of the offering and approach behind it broadens from a focus on the printer to the entire printing process, the area is ripe for resellers to play a more substantial role with the support now available to bring this to fruition.

WHAT’S WITH THE CURVE?

In the digital economy, screens are of course an essential part of an employee’s tool kit at work. So much so, that it is estimated that adults in Britain spend on average nearly nine hours each day looking at a screen, which adds up to over 10,000 days over a typical 80 year lifetime. In fact, the BBC recently reported that research conducted by Communications regulator Ofcom showed that people spend more time interfacing with content and media devices than they spend asleep.

Curved monitors make screen-time more comfortable. They follow the natural curve of the human eye, which results in fewer head and neck movements when reading information. Not only does this make viewing time more pleasant, but they also offer a more private and immersive experience. Combining sound ergonomics with heightened productivity, they help office workers to organise their on-screen information more effectively, making it easier to read.

COMFORT ASSURED AS CERTIFIED BY TUV RHEINLAND

In Samsung’s case, the superior eye comfort offered by its curved monitor range has been validated by international certification organisation, TÜV Rheinland. Its role is to test the safety and quality of new and existing products, and its endorsement supports the safety and comfort claims made by Samsung for its curved monitors.

To help you bring more viewing satisfaction to your customers’ needs, Exertis now offers the complete range of Samsung’s curved monitors. These include the 510C Series, which is energy efficient and boasts a high static contrast of 3000:1 plus wide viewing angles, making it ideal for multiple monitor setups, like in PC gaming or business use. Exertis also offers the the 590C Series, which features a brighter 350cd/m2 display and amplified speakers for multimedia use. Meanwhile, there’s the 790C Series, a premium monitor with a wide 21:9 aspect ratio, which makes it the screen of choice for users who multitask or enjoy long stints watching movies. For those who want the deepest monitor curvature on the market today, we offer Samsung’s LS34E790CNS/EN. Given there’s never been a better time to change and get ahead of the curve, why not speak to Exertis today to get a new view on how Samsung’s curved monitors can benefit the comfort and productivity of your customers?

While the concept of office ergonomics is widely understood, should we be concerned about the amount of time we spend in front of a monitor at work? That’s a question worth considering bearing in mind that office workers are exponentially

increasing their digital consumption via screens, monitors and displays. Today, researchers believe that curved displays - such as those being offered by Samsung – present a more effective way for desk-based employees to alleviate the strain of increased screen-time while fully immersing themselves in their work.

INTEGRATE, COLLABORATE & COMMUNICATE WITH SAMSUNG’S E-BOARD SERIES

Globally, the interactive display market is growing at a tremendous pace. As recently as May this year, Futuresource Consulting’s Global Interactive Display Report stated that the market has seen ‘unprecedented’ growth, showing a staggering 42%

year-on-year increase. To the 300,000 displays being shipped in the first three months of 2015. There are two factors that explain the heightened desirability of interactive displays. First, the popularity of mobiles and tablets as work and education tools, combined with interactive display’s capacity to interface easily with them, which facilitates the sharing of content held on mobile devices.

RE-ENERGISE LESSONS AND MEETINGS

A major force to be reckoned with in the interactive display market is Samsung, thanks to its e-Board series. Acknowledged as a game changer for class and meeting rooms, its SMART Signage DME-BR/BM Series is a ready to use, all-in-one E-Board display package that is ideally suited to education and corporate organisations. It helps create new lines of communication between teachers and students. While in the corporate workplace it makes staff more productive by optimising communication and collaboration between colleagues.

Looking at the education and corporate markets in particular, interactive displays enable teachers and meeting hosts to go far beyond just verbalising lessons, plans and materials. Instead, they can bring sessions alive via a visual and physical experience. Files and other materials can be shared on students’ or meeting participants’ devices or between e-boards, even when the devices are in separate locations. Teachers and meeting hosts can stay on top of content by monitoring and controlling attendees’ devices using Samsung’s Magic IWB Agent programme. Further interactive features include a touchscreen and Stylus pen for taking notes and drawing, and the ability to use PowerPoint, images, videos and Adobe animations to immerse students and aid the learning experience. Helping keep the audience focused is a distortion and glare-free viewing experience which delivers improved picture quality, while the software supplied enables students to access Microsoft Office applications and PDFs, along with the ability to write and save notes. It is also possible to open or share the files on the display while presenting, writing notes or saving the files without the extra steps usually required for file conversions. This both saves time and effort without interrupting a session’s flow.

MAXIMISE THE INTERACTIVE DISPLAY MARKET

OPPORTUNITY WITH EXERTIS

Highly respected by the AV community, Exertis brings product knowledge, extensive stock holding and a value-add approach to service. It offers its AV reseller partners class-leading sales and technical expertise - providing a strong platform from which its resellers can grow and develop their interactive display business.
