My dear fellow Fortisians,
I hope all of you are in the best of health and spirits.
As you are all aware, a great deal has transpired with our company
and you all have been reading about Fortis on a daily basis in the
newspapers and/or online. For one reason or another, we are in the
news almost every day, and while this is sometimes concerning, it
also indicates how much value we command. The attention can be a
good thing because we are being perceived as a fundamentally
good company that has great potential but has been besieged by
issues beyond our control. And once these issues are fixed, we will
certainly be back on track again. While the current challenges can
sometimes make it hard for us to do our daily jobs, the truth is that
this is temporary and it will pass. With that said, we are pushing
forward and I remain grateful to all of you for your wholehearted
dedication and commitment.
As we go through this phase, it is incumbent upon all of us to make
sure that we retain the trust of our patients with impeccable clinical
and nursing care. Patients and attendants are not interested in any
deal discussions or anything other than how they will be treated
and looked after - that is where we excel and I know we will
continue to do so.
On a personal note, I must confess that while I have had the good
fortune to do many things in my career, these past few (12-18)
months have been a new learning for me. While I am fascinated
with the process and level of interest in Fortis, I am deeply
concerned that we have not been able to keep the focus on what is
critical and most important to our business - treating and healing. I
am aware that we are all pushing as hard as possible to ensure that
we get back to working with our doctors and nurses to treating
patients and saving lives.
Before I close, I would like to formally welcome our new Board
Members (see details on Page 3). Based on my interaction with
Mr Ravi Rajagopal, Mr lndrajit Banerjee, Mr Rohit Bhasin and
Ms Suvalaxmi Chakraborty, I am confident that that under their
guidance, Fortis will embark upon a new era of stability and
exponential growth.
At this point, I do not have any further information to share with
you, but I promise to get back to you as soon as I have something.
Thank you all for your invaluable support and contribution to the
growth of this organisation – it has been a long journey and I am
confident that the best is yet to come.
Do stay tuned for more in the days ahead.
Warm and respectful regards,
Bhavdeep Singh

First in India: Fortis Mohali introduces Glue Closure Technique to treatVaricose Veins Fortis Hospital, Mohali, has introduced the new Glue
Closure Technique to treat Varicose Veins for the first time
in India. This modern yet simple technique does not require
application of anesthesia which involves multiple
punctures in thigh to numb the area. A special catheter is
introduced in the vein of the patient, which is ablated
along with a special Turkish glue. Dr Ravul Jindal, Director,
Vascular Surgery, Fortis Hospital, Mohali, and Dr Merts,
Proctor, RD Global, Turkey, spoke about this unique
technique.
The Glue closure treatment uses a patented VENABLOCK catheter which is a relatively new endovascular technique to cure
venous reflux disease. Dr Ravul Jindal who was the pioneer of MOCA technique (Mechanico Chemical Ablation of Varicose
Veins) in India is yet again the first to introduce this even more painless technique in this country. The technique is specially
recommended for those who are sensitive to needle pricks as well as those who are overweight.

His heart beat and breathing resumed after 20 minutes of continuous efforts and he was then immediately rushed to the hospital in an ambulance.
The patient was put on a ventilator after initial tests and his condition was closely monitored in the Critical Care Unit. He responded well to the treatment and was subsequently discharged from the hospital after full recovery. How did you take up singing?
Singing is not something which can be pursued as a hobby.
In my case, I just understood, in my growing up years, that I
sing better than others. Hence I pursued my talent.
Do you have any professional training in singing?
No. Though I have always wanted to, I have never taken any
professional training in singing. It is more of God's gift.
However, in the last 10 years, I have had two professionals
helping me.
What is the name of your musical band? Tell us
something more about it.
The name of our band is “Byatikromi”. It is an exceptional
band where five busy and renowned doctors from the city
have come together to form the musical band. Our band has
been into Bengali, Hindi and English songs from all genres
including some unusual mixes. The proceeds from the
performances are donated to various charitable institutions.
What have been the major achievements of
“Byatikromi”?
We have come up with 3 music albums till date. ‘Byatikromi’
came out with the first CD along with Doctors from
Bangladesh in 2005. The second album, a collection of
Rabindra Sangeet, was released by Prime Music in 2007. In
the year 2009, 'Byatikromi' completed their 8th year and we
paid tribute to the legendary composer Salil Chowdhury in
an album named 'Sradhyanjali' which was released by Sa-
Re-Ga-Ma on 10th January, 2010.
Where all have you performed?
We have given more than 120 performances till date. The
most noted amongst them were in Dhaka, in Mumbai and
the one at the Governor's House. We are regularly invited to
perform at Government Events, Doctor's gatherings and
Kolkata Police cultural programs.
Meet Dr Tapas Roy Chowdhury,a renowned cardio-vascular andthoracic surgeon, from FortisHospitals Anandapur, Kolkata.

At the onset, I would like to thank you and your department Ms. Anita and Ms Benu, for all the help and support extended to us during the hospital stay of my husband Mr Vijay Ganatra from 13th Dec.-17 to 28th Dec.-17, who is recuperating from his surgery for Cancer and is currently undergoing Radiation therapy in your Fortis Hospitals, Gurugram.
I would like to say a BIG THANK YOU and a special note to your Head and Neck Thoracic Oncology Team, Mr Surender Dabas and his team who took such great care of my husband as if we were one of their family members. Dr Dabas, Dr Ashwani, Dr Karan, Dr Rahul, Dr Sandeep, Dr Ashwin, Dr Deepak. There is no doubt that they are outstanding in their field, each one of them, but apart from their technical skills and expertise in their field, they all have a heart of gold full of compassion for their patients. Mr Dabas is a wonderful human being and a noble soul, a great mentor for his team, he has the God's MIDAS touch of healing people with Hope and Care. Me and my husband are very touched by their compassion and the way they have been with us and supported us all the while during the treatment. They say that " DOCTOR'S ARE LIKE GOD'S ON EARTH " and we actually saw the good God in them. I wish Dr Dabas and his team the very best of luck for the future.

Conversation
Why did you choose to become a Nurse?During my childhood, my mother wanted me to be a priest. She felt that this would be the highest form of service for the society. But as I grew up, I found that rather than being a priest, molding myself to be a nurse would be the best way to help the humanity.
What do you like about your profession?Caring is fundamental to the nursing practice. So, helping a patient with a genuine smile and empathetic touch to get over pain and bad times of their lives always keeps me motivated. Moreover, the trust of the patients, their families, clinicians and colleagues always prompt me to give my best. Working in a dynamic and ever-changing environment with new innovations and advancements keeps me engaged.
How did Fortis contribute to your Nursing career?I started my nursing career at Fortis Flt Lt Rajan Dhall Hospitalas a critical care nurse. I was given the responsibility of quality improvement activities of the nursing department and was promoted as a quality nurse. I have been holding this position for the past 8 years and this long journey has helped me a lot as it provided me opportunities to bea part of many projects. NABH nursing excellence certification & AHPI nursing excellence awards in Fortis Vasant Kunj are the important achievements in my career. I am grateful to Fortis for supporting me.

My name is Vaibhav Sharma. I'd like to take the opportunity to give the feedback of Dr Pradeep Srinivasan (Consultant Radiologist, Fortis Hospital Bangalore). I'd like to admit that it was our great fortune that we have consulted Dr Pradeep during my wife's pregnancy. We were expecting our baby & were consulting Motherhood hospital (Sarjapur Road, Bangalore). In one of the scan, we got to know that there was some issue with baby's nasal bone. It was the darkest phase of our life. During this phase, we have consulted number of radiologist. But, Dr Pradeep stands out the best of all. Eventually, our confidence in Dr Pradeep's skills reached to a point that we completely stop consulting any other radiologist. It had also resulted in huge increase in confidence & respect level for Fortis's doctors. Needless to say that we changed our gynaecologist to Fortis hospital. Quite obviously, the baby was delivered in Fortis hospital only.
I'd also like to highlight the fact that besides expert in his field, Dr Pradeep commitment towards his job, attitude of serving his patient, professionalism & sensitivity towards his patients makes Dr Pradeep a great doctor. He is THE BEST RADIOLOGIST in whole of Bangalore. He is truly an asset for Fortis & Fortis is very lucky to have him. In my mind, Dr Pradeep is a perfect role model for all the aspiring Doctors.Appreciated by : Vaibhav Sharma, new-born baby's father Dr Pradeep Srinivasan, Radiologist, Fortis Hospital, BG Road, BengaluruAppreciation for : Dr Pradeep Srinivasan, Radiologist, Fortis Hospital, BG Road, Bengaluru

Hiranandani Hospital – Fortis Network Hospital, Vashi, Navi Mumbai
For the last week my mother, Mrs Nirmala S Venuji, was admitted in the Fortis Hiranandani Hospital, Vashi (referred from BARC), to undergo angiography/angioplasty for multiple blocks under the keen eye of Dr G R Kane. We had a very, very good experience with all the staff and Dr Kane as well who helped us generously throughout our stay.
I want to add a special note for my friend at the Corp desk- Danny who was our go-to person for any issue or question related to the admission, discharge process. He made us very comfortable and explained everything to us clearly. He also went out of his way to help us sort some issues and never once got irritated, angry or behaved rudely. I myself was angry at him due to some misunderstanding but he was very calm and supportive even in that situation. He is truly an asset to your organization and surely will climb the ladder of success quick. On a side note, the security is way too strict and a little rude too Other than that it's been a great time for us the last week.
I wish Danny and your team all the best. Please continue to do the great job that you are doing. Appreciated by : Venuji Family, patient's familyAppreciated for : Mr Danny, Corporate Help Desk
Accordingly we shifted our Father to Fortis Hospital on the 28th evening and the surgery was performed by Dr Jawali & his team on the 29th of January in the forenoon and rest is history. Later on we were informed that, considering the age of my father, performing both the bypass surgery as well as replacement of the valve was indeed a complex Operation which also called for stopping of the Heart for some time and revived subsequently. We were also informed that the entire procedure took about 7 hours of time. We were also informed that the surgery consisted of 3 bypasses and the replacement of valve. we were given to understand that due to the size of the original valve, the doctors had to use a metal valve instead of a Tissue valve which was what originally envisaged.
Post-surgery care at Cardiac intensive care unit lasted for about 5 days. During this phase we came across face to face with the best facilities in terms of availability of latest equipment, infrastructure and most importantly one of the most competent & professional Nursing care with a human touch. These have a played a large & decisive role in my father's recuperating phase. Special mention must be made here about the smart & intelligent Nurses- Deepika, Devi and Diana who took special care of our Father as though he was one of their own family members. Hats off to them.
The stay in the ward was one more instance of we experiencing the professional touch, the hospital is giving to its patients. In fact we cannot forge the excellent and touchy care of your nurses Sheeba and Vinilla who were always at our side in doing whatever was being put forth. We are indeed thankful to them for their soft & human touch.
Overall it was an experience which we cannot forget especially the Team of Surgeons led by Dr VivekJawali, but for whose Golden Hands, the situation would have been different for us today and probably we wouldn't have been able to see our Father alive.
