Parent representatives – P&C and Classrooms

I would like to thank all of our parent volunteers for their willingness to assist the

teachers and students at Forestville in 2019. Tonight is our first P&C meeting and I am

really looking forward to meeting some of you. We have just two P&C meetings each

term and it will be wonderful to have a large forum to make decisions and help drive the

improvements in the school.

Class Awards

As a staff we value student achievement across so many different aspects of their

learning journey. We have been putting these student achievements in the newsletter,

however, we feel that each and every student’s individual accomplishments are meeting

their own individual goals and should be shared with their peers through a celebration

of their efforts at assembly and with their families. We are exceptionally proud of our

students’ growth mindsets and feel that publishing their achievements is not the focus,

but more the effort they put in to get there.

Page 2: The Forestville Flyer€¦ · Accept Mistakes as Learning Opportunities One of the best ways you can model a growth mindset is to speak candidly about the mistakes you’vemade, and

Out of school achievements

We have a number of students at Forestville who attend interest groups, are part of

community sporting teams or are pursuing a range of learning opportunities outside

school. If your child has been part of any external activity that you feel could be

recognised in our newsletter, please send some communication to the school as we

would love to know about their interests and achievements. Olivia from 6C recently

performed the National Anthem and ‘I still call Australia Home’,as part of the

Australian Girls’ Choir in Canberra, to an audience of cricket fans who were there to

see Australia play Sri Lanka. Congratulations Olivia.

Bikes and Scooters

We encourage students to be healthy and ride or walk to school. Part of students

using bikes and scooters is ensuring their safe passage from home to school. Please

spend some time with your children explaining the hazards on their journey and also

the need to walk their bike or scooter in the playground in our very busy before and

after school periods. We would also like to remind students to lock their bikes in the

bike racks during the day, as leaving them scattered around the school can cause

issues with safety.

GROWTH MINDSET PARENTING

Accept Mistakes as Learning Opportunities

One of the best ways you can model a growth mindset is to speak candidly about the

mistakes you’ve made, and what you’ve learned from them. Speak positively about

your mistakes and struggles, and this will show your children that taking risks and

making mistakes are a natural part of the learning process. Explain to your children

that trying hard at things is what helps us grow, and you can’t be perfect when you

try something hard!
