What Makes a Good Video?

You’re engaged and entranced by the video you watch because they’re:

Fast-paced with short clips

Emotionally-charged

Usually under 7 minutes

To Flip or Not to Flip?

The Flip is best for up close, smaller events or filming specifically for the camera.

Up close and personal!

Panning

Move the camera twice as slow as you think you should –

What you see on the screen isn’t a good indication of how it ends up recording.

Instead of panning or walking while recording, could you stop recording and start again?

Stabilize it!

The Flip has no stabilization.

2 Best Ways to Avoid Shaking:

Hold your wrist with your other hand….

or purchase a small tripod and hold it from the bottom if you can’t set it down.

Zooming

Use the same principal as still cameras, get as close as you can before you use the zoom.

Zoom on the regular models is too fast and clumsy, like when you pan.

To Zoom or not to Zoom?

Lead In and Lead Out

Give yourself a few seconds of recording at the beginning and end for editing.

If someone’s going to speak, start recording a 3-5 seconds before.

It’s easier to trim the beginning and ends then to not have a proper lead for transitions, like fading-in.

Short Bursts

Stop recording between shots or moments, rather than continuing to record.

Example – During a Talent Show, record each act as a separate clip.

When reviewing your clips in FlipShare, you’ll understand why!
