10 session passes and X-week package deals are choking the life out of training businesses.

There are some extremely competent, caring and knowledgeable fitness professionals struggling right now – simply because they are not getting paid what they are worth.

And it has a lot to do with the way they charge for their services.

Adopting the formula I prescribe here could instantly add at least $1000 a month to your bottom line.

It will also help you to retain clients for a lot longer AND get them faster results from their training.

So here it is….

THE FITNESS BOOTCAMP CHARGING FORMULA

TIP: How to increase your PT income by $1000+ per month

In October last year, I wrote about how most group personal trainers use charging models that actually discourage their clients from train-ing.

1. First, you need to commit to a weekly timetable of sessions. 4 sessions a week is the minimum you need to make this system work. Start with the same time every day. Eg. 4 morning sessions at 6am offers more flexibility than 2 mornings and 2 evenings, since people generally prefer to train at the same time every day. Get one timeslot bustling before adding another.

Biz Size # clients # of sessions

Micro <25 clients 4 sessions a week

All at the same time slot

Small 25-50 clients 7 or 8 sessions a week

Two time slots

Medium 50-75 clients 9 or 10 sessions a week

Two time slots

Large 75+ clients 10 to 12 sessions a week

Three time slots

Epic 100+

Multiple venues

Mutiple sessions

Multiple timeslots

2. Next, create a workout per day for at least the next month in advance. Note that this is not a different workout for each session. It’s a different workout for each day. If you run a morning and evening session on the same day then use the same workout for both. This isn’t strictly part of the charging formula, but well worth doing anyway. It will save you a lot of time and stress.

3. Then announce a flat, weekly fee for unlimited sessions. No exceptions. Everyone pays the same weekly rate regardless of how often they train. This is a huge factor in creating accountability. It will help you to attract better quality clients too. Don’t forget, this is about creating exceptional value AND charging what you’re worth. Most of your clients should be delighted with your new system. It gives them an incentive to train more often, accelerate their results and save money. The more they train, the more they gain! Unfortunately, some may be outraged too – but that’s OK. Going through this exercise will help you deter-mine which of your clients are good for business and which are not. Rewarding A-List clients allows you to attract more A-List clients. Same goes for D-List clients.

4. Get a Paypal business account. Paypal is awesome. You can set it up for free, there are no monthly charges and the per-transaction fees are reasonable. This makes it the cheapest and easiest option for collecting recurring revenue automatically. Tell existing clients that you are going to collect the equivalent of 4 weeks training fees automatically from their bank account or credit card via Paypal on the first day of every month. In advance. It’s very important that you charge 4 weeks every calendar month. Apart from making the amount easy-to-calculate, it means you don’t have to make adjustments each month and it gifts your clients 4 weeks ‘free’ training every year (one week free every 3 months). You could even advertise this as an added incentive: ’4 weeks free training’. Now you do not need to issue refunds when people decide to take a week or two off training. You already built it in!

5. Set up a simple one-page website for registrations These days, there are plenty of tools that enable you to create a nice website yourself. Your clients go there once to enrol in your bootcamp and input their contact details. Simply add a Paypal button on the bottom of the page and you’re done. BONUS tip – incorporate a PAR-Q or health screening form on the same page and a social media button so that they can ‘refer a friend’ too.

6. Set and forget. Each month, money automatically lands in your Paypal account until your client decides it time to stop train-ing (and why would they do that when they are getting awesome results?) This is the fundamental difference. You must assume that your clients would rather keep on training. Most trainers do this backwards and never see their clients again at the end of the bootcamp or 10 session pass. Or if they do, they have to sell them all over again. It’s crazy! You don’t need to ask your existing clients to buy from you again every month. Phew! Ironically, this will help you to attract more clients since you can now surprise and delight those A-List clients with phone calls and personal emails. They tell their friends how great you are and word of mouth spreads.

SUMMARY How you charge clients influences their behaviour towards you and your business.

A flat monthly fee collected automatically allows you to focus on actually training people and takes pressure away from having to ‘sell’ them every month.

Now you can spend time reviewing their food diary or showing them some specific stretches in-stead. It leads to a more pleasant conversation for both of you.

Your income becomes predictable and reliable.

There are fewer peaks and troughs and you can budget easily. That means less stress.

Clients will definitely train more often, accelerating their results and making everyone happy.

Your group sizes will be larger and bounce with energy – since clients now know that the more they train, the more they gain.

This inevitably leads to better results for them and glowing testimonials for you.

And nothing attracts a crowd like a crowd…
