  • The Film Industry By Shannon Dunne (Antler Productions)
  • Film Institutes- ProductionProduction companies are very important when making a film because they are responsible for various taskssuch as script, raising money, the director, DP, crew, casting and the filming itself. They have to raise money tofund for the film and do this by finding sponsors, partners and other people that would be interesting ininvesting in the film. Some of the main production companies around are; Universal Pictures Summit Entertainment Entertainment one Paramount Pictures Pixar Animations. For entertainment, Production companies usually start with creating a project and developing a script. Theproduction of a film involves a lot of work and goes through certain stages until it is complete. As well as this, italso creates a lot of specialised jobs such as Director, Assistant Director, Director ofphotography, Producer, Executive Producer, Production Manager, Production Coordinator, ScreenWriter, Choreographer, Casting Director, Stunt Coordinator and thats just a few. They are usually owned by aCorporate Entity.Producer/DirectorJoel Schumacher is a well-known and quite acclaimed producer and director who directed films such as A Timeto Kill, Batman & Robin, Number 23 and Twelve. The film number 23, fits our genre well because it is apsychological thriller and a lot of the films hes directed and produced are thrillers. His films are well knownglobally, hence why Id pick him for our film.
  • ProductionStages of the production process:- Development: this is where the producers create a story and script. This could come from book, play, another film, a true story, original idea.- Pre-Production: This is where preparations are made for the film and the cast and crew are selected by the Producers and the sets are built. Storyboards are put together.- Production: This is where the film is made and is shot. More crew can also take place at this point.- Post- Production: After being shot, the film is edited and sound and visual effects are put in.- Sales and Distribution: Where the film is shown to the potential buyers and it shown in cinema and on DVD
  • Film Institutes- DistributionThe film distributers are the people that are responsible for the marketing of the film. Examplesof film distribution companies are 2oth century fox, Columbia Pictures, Lionsgate UK, WarnerBros. they release the film to the public and get them to watch the film. They distribute using theinternet, DVD, box sets, film sites etc.Distribution is important to the production companies because it is down to them whether thefilm will make a profit or not.Our film opening is a psychological thriller and would be advertised at teenagers or above so wewould have to get our distributers to distribute in a way that teenagers would see it and beinterested in. A distribution company that my group would be interested in would be New LineCinema. This is because they distributed and produced The number 23. Warner Bros would alsobe useful as their films are known around the world meaning our film would make a good profit.
  • Distribution Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban Produced by: Chris Columbus, David Heyman and Mark Radcliffe Distributed by: Warner Bros. The Number 23 Produced by: Beau Flynn and Tripp Vinson Distributed by: New Line Cinema
  • Film Institutes- Marketing and PromotionPostersPosters are a really good way of promoting the film as the public will see theposter and if they like the look of it, they might see it. This works well forsequels especially with certain main characters being on the poster.
  • Marketing and PromotionTrailersTrailers work really well as they show people thebest parts of the film which make peopleautomatically want to see itTrailer for Twilight:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S2T7d8j6I5I
