THE FALSE GOSPEL

Galatians 3:15-29

THE FAKE GOSPEL

Galatians 3:15-29

GALATIANS 3:15-2915 Let me use a human metaphor to explain what I am saying: When people enter into legal contracts, once both parties agree and sign their signature the contract cannot be cancelled or added to. 16 Now when God entered into a covenant agreement with Abraham the ‘contract’ did not use the words ‘and to your descendants’ as if it were referring to many people. It used the word– “descendant,” referring to a single person. The person it referred to was Christ.

GALATIANS 3:15-29

17A legally binding covenant was established by God. When the law of Moses was given four hundred and thirty years later, that addition does not invalidate the original covenant and its promises. 18 It doesn’t mean that the original promises have been set aside and we are now to receive what God wants to give us as a reward for keeping religious regulations instead of the way it worked with Abraham – by trusting what God has promised.

GALATIANS 3:15-29

19What, then, was the reason for the law of Moses? The law was added to the original covenant with Abraham because of human disobedience. It gave protection to people until the coming of Christ, the promised descendant. The law was given by means of angelic messengers and by the hand of a mediator, Moses. 20 Generally a mediator represents two different parties, but in this case the mediator only represented one party, that being God.

GALATIANS 3:15-29

21Is the giving of the law opposed to the idea of receiving from God by trusting what he has promised? Definitely not. The fact is, if a law could be given that could transform someone’s heart then all we would need in order to be righteous would be the law and nothing else. 22

But the Bible tells us that the whole world is locked up in sin and therefore the whole world needs the opportunity to receive righteousness as a gift from God on the basis of their faith.

GALATIANS 3:15-29

23Before the coming of faith in Christ we were shut in a prison. The law told us we were sinners but couldn’t do anything to set us free. It was anticipating the revelation of faith in Christ. 24 The law was like a childminder looking after us until Christ came. We could then be made righteous by the gift of God given on the basis of believing God’s promise.25Because Christ has come we no longer need a childminder.

HUMAN CONTRACTS –an illustration of the principle

15Let me use a human metaphor to explain what I am saying: When people enter into legal contracts, once both parties agree and sign their signature the contract cannot be cancelled or added to.

THE CONTRACT REFERS TO A SINGLE PERSON

16Now when God entered into a covenant agreement with Abraham the ‘contract’ did not use the words ‘and to your descendants’ as if it were referring to many people. It used the word–“descendant,” referring to a single person. The person it referred to was Christ.

GOD’S ORIGINAL PROMISE POINTED TO JESUS

MOSES vs. ABRAHAM

17 A legally binding covenant was established by God.

THE LAW DOESN’T SET ASIDE EMBRACING A PROMISE BY FAITH

REASONS???????

19What, then, was the reason for the law of Moses? The law was added to the original covenant with Abraham because of human disobedience. It gave protection to people until the coming of Christ, the promised descendant. The law was given by means of angelic messengers and by the hand of a mediator, Moses. 20

Generally a mediator represents two different parties, but in this case the mediator only represented one party, that being God.

THE LAW – THWARTING SIN

WHAT THE LAW CAN’T DO !!!!!!!!!

21Is the giving of the law opposed to the idea of receiving from God by trusting what he has promised? Definitely not. The fact is, if a law could be given that could transform someone’s heart then all we would need in order to be righteous would be the law and nothing else. 22 But the Bible tells us that the whole world is locked up in sin and therefore the whole world needs the opportunity to receive righteousness as a gift from God on the basis of their faith.

THE LAW CAN’T MAKE ANYONE RIGHTEOUS

Trying to become ‘gooder’ is just a recipe for frustration –you will either become disenchanted or self righteous –

either way its bad for business.

THE LAW WAS THE SCHOOLTEACHER

23Before the coming of faith in Christ we were shut in a prison. The law told us we were sinners but couldn’t do anything to set us free. It was anticipating the revelation of faith in Christ. 24 The law was like a childminder looking after us until Christ came. We could then be made righteous by the gift of God given on the basis of believing God’s promise.25Because Christ has come we no longer need a childminder.

THE SCHOOL TEACHER GETS YOU FROM NOTHING TO HAVING TRUTH INSIDE YOU.

• 26All of us have become children of God by believing what God has promised through Jesus Christ.

• 27Now that faith in Christ has come, everyone who is baptized has become clothed with Christ. 28 There is no distinction in all of this.

GALATIANS 3:15-29

26All of us have become children of God by believing what God has promised through Jesus Christ. 27 Now that faith in Christ has come, everyone who is baptized has become clothed with Christ. 28 There is no distinction in all of this. Everyone receives on the same basis –Jews and Greeks, slaves and free citizens, men and women. We all receive the same thing and are unified in Christ Jesus.

GALATIANS 3:15-29

29If you belong to Christ in this way, then, no matter what your ethnic or social background, you are all descendants of Abraham. Like him you have become heirs because of the promise of God.

KNOW THE REAL GOSPEL BY WHAT IT DOES

1. It fulfills the promise made from the beginning.2. It only works when you trust what God to do what he

promised.3. It does by supernatural power what the best laws can

never do.4. It transforms a person from the inside out (heart first-

actions second)5. It produces righteousness within someone.6. It points us to Jesus Christ.7. It treats all of us the same.8. It is accessible to everyone.
