Background • The Scottish School of Librarianship was

founded in 1946• Majority of students were on leave of absence

from local authorities and education sector• By 1964-65 there were more applicants than

places• For academic session 1965-66 a large

number of suitable candidates failed to get entry (54 from Glasgow alone)
