    Bienvenue au rallye du TTC

    Brendon Cross(a very proud) SpecialEffect Vice-PresidentMay 2014

Welcome to the Twin Town Challenge

We’re over the start line and the Twin Town Challenge is underway!

three iconic race tracks, twelve awesome challenges, a thousand miles (well nearly!), politicians, pop stars, celebrities and a street party with an eleven piece band…but most importantly, you!!!

But let’s not forget why we’re doing this. The

contribution to this year’s SpecialEffect fundraising to help them meet the increasing demand for their services. In addition to your entry donation, we will be raising money through the fantastic ‘money can’t buy’ auction, the online auction of signed Car-Beer-Etta bottles, bucket shakes as we go and of course the donation of your cars at the end of the weekend.

We also have some incredible sponsors and the Twin Town Challenge simply wouldn’t have happened without them. Sponsorship is covering 100% of our costs, which means that 100% of everything we raise goes directly to SpecialEffect!

Daniel Fasquelle, his team and the people of Le Touquet have also shown fantastic support and enthusiasm for ‘The Challenge’ from the outset and you can all be sure of an extremely warm welcome everywhere you go in the town.

We are also being accompanied by an army of supporters, friends and families without whom it wouldn’t be possible to organise each of the stages safely, and all of these volunteers are travelling at their

own expense. Never in the proud thirty year history of the twinning between Witney and Le Touquet will the UK have been represented by so many people in the town at the same time…you’re making history!

Please remember though that this is not a race, but a series of points based challenges to raise money for a unique charity whilst having fun. Drive carefully and with respect, both in the UK and in France… there will be a lot of interest in the event and the cars as we go.

So all that remains for me to say is thank you once again for your incredible generosity, please enjoy the weekend and be very proud of what you are doing…you’re about to go down as one of the inaugural Twin Town Challengers….you are making a real difference!

Drivers start your engines and, in the words of the Prime Minister, ‘have a great time’.

  • With 50 cars taking part in the Twin Town

Challenge we will attract a lot of attention, so

please drive carefully and with respect, both in

    the UK and in France.

When driving in France, you will

need a recognised full driving licence. NB: The

minimum age for driving in France is 18.

Anyone visiting France must have a

Make sure your car is fully

insured before you leave the UK and don’t forget

that you also need insurance for driving round the

circuits – contact TTC sponsors Bridle Insurance

who can advise you (0845 034 9648 quoting TTC).

Many insurance policies that are comprehensive

policies in the UK only provide third party cover

when the vehicle is taken abroad.

Many UK motorists like to take out extra holiday

History of the Witney – Le Touquet Twinning

The term ‘twin town’ or ‘twinning’ was conceived after the Second World War to foster friendship and understanding between different cultures and between former foes

as an act of peace and reconciliation. In recent times, town twinning has increasingly been used to form strategic international business links and encourage tourism.

Witney has been twinned with the fashionable seaside of town of Le Touquet for almost 30 years. With a population of just 6,500 in the winter that swells to over 100,000 in the summer, our presence here this weekend

is welcomed by the town, its restaurants, hotels and bars!

Merci beaucoup to our team in le Touquet – Sylvie Duhamel, Anne-Marguerite Fauquert, Bernard Baudoux. We couldn’t have done it without you!

Remerciements particuliers à toute l’équipe du Touquet - sans votre participation active, ce projet n’aurait pas pu se concrétiser!

The reason why we’re all here…your support will enable SpecialEffect to help more people like...

That’s nothing special for most children but Charlotte, a lively Oxfordshire girl with an enormous appetite for life, contracted an aggressive form of meningitis when she was two, resulting in the loss of the lower parts of all her limbs.

She’s now busy getting on with her life, but inevitably

If you view video games purely as a pastime or, at worst, a distraction, you might want to talk to Ella

and Chloe. Both girls have motor control problems

with their friends. Videogaming is the one activity that can offer

    standard handheld controllers without assistance.

That is until now. When Ella and Chloe visited our Games Room, our technical specialists and occupational therapists helped the girls with their positioning for the Xbox Kinect, which doesn’t require a handheld controller. We introduced the girls to a selection of games that would be easy enough for them to use by themselves, as well as providing motivation and fun. Games like Fruit Ninja and Once Upon A Monster were instant hits.

We’ve been able to support both girls and their families by setting up

games and equipment in their own homes via

    our Loan Library.

Xbox, including larger joysticks that he could grip more easily, and larger buttons that he could press more accurately. After several loans and adjustments, we hit upon a setup that was perfect for him.

Two weeks later we received a phone call from his Dad. Both father and son are over the moon to be competing together

their lives, something they never thought they’d ever be able to do.

And for Dad, learning to lose is a small price that he’s more than happy to pay.

With thanks to our fabulous sponsors…

When SpecialEffect approached the gang at slicedbread about getting involved in the Twin Town Challenge 2014, we said, “Why wouldn’t we?” From the inception of slicedbread, it was really important for us to give something back, and SpecialEffect and their “Magic Moments” stood out. Not to mention our co-founder, Ben,

any excuse to rally a (hopefully working) motor, especially for charity, was right up our street.

Gamma welcomed the chance to get behind the Twin Town Challenge and support one of our partners STL, in this epic event! The nominated charity SpecialEffect has really touched the hearts of the team at Gamma and reminds us all how lucky we are to be able to take part in a fun event like this. We look forward to meeting all the participants and can’t wait for the challenges to begin!

Associating Playground Games and Forza Horizon with this challenge was a no brainer – although the cars in Forza are somewhat more prestigious than half the bangers being driven

between the Twin Towns! SpecialEffect is a fantastic charity run by fantastic people which changes people’s lives for the better. Playground Games is honoured to support such a great organisation.

Blueprint Imaging is very proud to be part of such an exciting and unique event. By supplying the car graphics and event signage, we are helping a fantastic cause. It’s local, it’s fun, it’s everything that’s good about the West Oxfordshire business community all pulling together to help such a brilliant charity. Being

pleasure. Sticker up and go, go, go!

Oasis Dental Care wish the “Twin Towners” the very best of luck as you embark on a weekend of challenges in aid of a fantastic charity, with a lot of fun on the way.

This event offers a window into the lives of those less fortunate. It is our privilege to be able to support this worthwhile charity, which allows young people to improve their quality of life.

Polythene UK is delighted and excited to sponsor this unique event. The Twin Town Challenge is a fantastic concept that’s sure to guarantee an unforgettable time for everyone involved. More importantly it will raise a great deal of money for SpecialEffect. We have taken part in various events in support of this visionary charity over the last few years – we were not going to miss this one!

taking part in the Twin Town Challenge, we simply thought, ‘that sounds like a good craic, let’s do it!’ Shortly after, we met with Brendon and Nick, who explained the Challenge in more detail, and gave us a real understanding of the work Dr Mick and the team at SpecialEffect carry out. They are quite simply inspirational. We are delighted to be ‘along for the ride’!

The Twin Town Challenge was the brainchild of our MD Brendon Cross and most of the STL Communications team has been involved in the project with behind the scenes support to marshalling at the event – and we even have a team driving one of the 50 cars. We are very proud to be able to help our favourite charity SpecialEffect, who do such fab things to help people with disabilities to play games, and to have had so much fun doing it!

Prion Cutting Edge is committed to helping UK businesses make the most of the latest technology. When we saw the fantastic work that SpecialEffect does and the truly awesome impact that it has on those whose lives have been shattered by misfortune, we just HAD to get involved. We are totally committed to raising awareness through our business connections locally and nationwide.

As a web design, online marketing and technology company there was natural synergy in having SpecialEffect as our chosen charity. The Twin Town web application and social media campaign which we developed have given the team a welcome distraction from work projects. We can only thank the SpecialEffect team for letting us be part of the journey.

Fine Print is proud to be able to support this unique event for an inspiring charity

    Good luck to all involved!

Wychwood Brewery and the Twin Town Car-Beer-Etta beerOnce you have witnessed the great work of Dr Mick and the SpecialEffect team it is impossible not to want to get involved.

Having chosen SpecialEffect as the Wychwood Brewery Halloween event

partner. Back in the Autumn Nick Streeter and Brendon Cross came to see us with the enthusiastic idea of a Top Gear style challenge. Raising essential funds for a brilliant charity during a ‘mini-break’ to France seemed too good

came the commemorative beer, aka Car-Beer-Etta, closely followed by taking a bar, and ending sometime later with plans of an inter-continental Aunt Sally tournament…and that was before anyone had had a drink!

as the beer, the bar and the Aunt Sally we now have two awesome looking Hobgoblin cars and a dray lorry taking part.

The response to the Car-Beer-Etta beer has been fantastic. With so many great celebrity endorsements it’s impossible to decide which one to bid for at the auction. The beer itself is a crisp, fruity, blonde beer at 4.5% abv. Surely all good drivers need a fruity blonde to accompany them on a long journey don’t they?

    Ali Butler, Wychwood Brewery

Good luck to everyone taking part in the challenge.

Drive carefully and let’s go and raise some cash!
