Dear Edgeboro Friends and Family,

Did you have a good summer? I hope so. And if you’re not sure, you have through September 22nd to change that – the

official last day of summer.

I think we, as a church, had a good summer, too. We helped the kids at Northeast Community Center’s (formerly Northeast

Ministry) summer camp make tie-dye t-shirts. We hosted a fun-filled week of Vacation Bible School for 58 kids with the help

of many volunteers. We went to an Iron Pigs game together and witnessed a victory. We cleaned out the church of many

things that were accumulating in the corners of the building. We hosted a rummage sale that raised over $1,000 for

Bethlehem Emergency Sheltering. We had a new little library and a kindness rock garden installed on the Elm St. side of the

building by Girl Scout Troop #8417, which regularly meets at the church on Wednesday evenings. We had two outdoor

worship services plus others that had us doing some things outside the norm. We have known Paul Silwamba for a full

calendar year. We sent individuals to Camp Hope (See the report inside this newsletter.). Most recently, we hosted our

annual Ice Cream Festival, which raised $1,800 for the church and, more importantly, draws hundreds of church members,

neighbors, and friends together in fellowship.

There are some great things to look back on from this summer, but now we look ahead.

On September 8th, youth Sunday school begins again at 9:15am with Rally Day. Later that day, all Moravians and friends are

invited to the Bethlehem Area Moravians (BAM) Picnic at Advent Moravian Church, 4:00-7:00pm.

Then on September 15th, something new! The first Moravian Day of Service will begin here at Edgeboro with a lovefeast at

10:30am. After the lovefeast, we will then split up into different service events (Litter clean-up, serving lunch at the Salvation

Army, making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, making various craft projects, and collecting items for the neighborhood

donation drive). Please sign up in advance for the service event you would like to participate in. A letter went out to the

congregation in mid-August with more details. Go to edgeboromoravian.org to view that letter and sign up. (Note: There are

ways you can help even if you’re not around on September 15th – see the aforementioned letter for details.)

This and Sunday School classes, confirmation classes, lovefeasts, dart baseball, sugar cakes, candles, mints, meals and

sandwiches to make, Halloween open house, the putz – all of this is coming in the fall, and more, because who knows what

will come up that God will call us to do! Whether you have been a part of these things before and are eager to return, or

you would like to try something brand new (new to you or new to the church), come be a part of what’s going on here at

Edgeboro this fall!

Fall Schedule

We will resume our fall

schedule on Sunday

September 8th which is

9:15AM Sunday School (All

ages), 10:30AM Worship. On

that day, we will install the

Sunday School teachers and

celebrate Rally Day.

On September 15th, we will

have our Children’s Lovefeast

and Day of Service.

Salvation Army Lunches

On one Sunday about every other month from

approximately 10:00am-2:00pm, a group from

Edgeboro travels to the Salvation Army (521

Pembroke Rd.) to share lunch with guests

that arrive. All are welcome to attend to eat

lunch, prepare the food, serve lunch, get to

know everyone, and clean up. On average,

100 lunches are served each time. Please

come at any time for any length of the four-

hour timespan. The next dates Edgeboro will

be at the Salvation Army are September

15th, October 20th, December 15th and

December 22nd.

Hearing Assistance Devices for Worship?

Hearing difficulties can be a hard barrier to over-

come in worship for many individuals. We would

like to enhance the worshipping experience for

those with hearing difficulties.

The most common way of doing this is purchasing

personal hearing assistance devices which each

have a set of discrete earphones and a small wire-

less receiver which connects directly into the

sound system of the church - meaning you will no

longer have to rely on the sanctuary's speakers for

sound, instead everything that would normally

come through the sanctuary's speakers will come

directly through your earphones where you can

control your own volume.

Before purchasing any devices, the church would

like to know if any devices similar to the one

described above would be needed or used. If you

think having a personal hearing assistance

device available to use at the church would

help improve your worship experience, please

speak with a member of the Joint Board as

soon as possible. Thank you!

MOSS COLLECTING

We need 20-something crates of moss for our Putz. Join us on Saturday, November 2nd at 8:30a.m. in the church parking lot. The rain date is November 3rd. We will carpool and caravan to the secret moss collecting spot. The drive is beautiful, the hotdogs taste better in the woods than anywhere else, and you will discover how many types of moss there are in Pennsylvania! Make this a yearly tradition. You will not regret it!

Ice Cream Festival Wrap Up 2019 Edgeboro Historians need to ring in on whether 2019 was the hottest festival ever, certainly in

recent history (last 20 years). We may have set a record reaching 92 degrees! Neighbors, friends,

families, and fans (like Steve Samuelson) of our festival came to eat and enjoy the many shaded areas

thanks to our large tent and a few trees.

Paula, Johanna, and Peggy kept the kitchen going, while John, Art, Nelson and Marty roasted flipping

our burgers and dogs. Thank you.

A busy set up crew: Steve, Tom, Dan, Carol, Johanna, Peggy, Ben, Mike, Ron, Luke, Paul, Marty, Nelson, Steph,

Hallie, Spencer, Art – many ran home for a shower. Thank you. *

The clean up crew cleared the church yard: Art, Dan, Paul, Luke, Joe, Arohn, Josh, Sue, Becky, Johanna, Paula, Beth,

John, Jim, Eric, Steph, Hallie, Spencer, Kathy and others too. Thank you. *

*Deep apologies to those I missed. Thank you.

The servers, many. A shout out to Anita, Steph, Spencer and Hallie who worked both shifts. Thank you.

Tom P. and Gayle J. - your added enthusiasm, ideas, and extra food making carried the festival through. Thank you.

Bill, your ice cream, ice, extra table connection, cups, spoons and whipped cream top off the festival. Thank you.

The work was a bit harder in the heat; everyone went home a little bit more tired and a few pounds lighter!

Hip Hip Hooray. Thank you. ~ Blake M.

MORAVIAN MINTS

Imagine it is Christmastime again (It’s not hard as it seems to come faster every year.). You want to get your neighbor a little something for helping you shovel that last wicked batch of snow. You think immediately of the delicious Moravian mints your church sells. How can you help make them, you ask? Easy! We need stirrers, pourers, meal makers and those amazing ribbon tiers to make it happen. We need an earnest commitment from those wanting to help with this great tradition. If you can commit to any amount of time please let Marcia Horning know through a phone call or email. Please prayerfully consider helping out to make it an amazing year for mints!

Board of Trustees’ August Meeting Highlights

The Girl Scout troop has installed a Little Free Library and a kindness rock garden. The Elm street door has been repaired by Adams Glass. The sanctuary AC unit was repaired by Fritch.

Ask yourself – Are you a faithful giver? We understand that due to work, vacations, inclement weather and sickness it may not be possible to attend church every Sunday. The work of the church continues even when you can’t be here. Thank you for considering becoming faithful in your giving. And if you are already a faithful giver – thanks!
