Message from the Headmaster
Dear Parents and Community Members
Examinations are once again on the horizon for the majority of students. Their purpose is to provide a snap-
shot of learning. Because some students do not achieve well in exam conditions, this snapshot is sometimes
not accurate. In saying this exams, generally speaking, are a necessary tool in providing motivation, focus
and information on what learning has been achieved. Students should now be in study mode for their exami-
nations and have a clearly defined revision strategy.
While on the subject of assessment, Malta has introduced Benchmark Tests for year 6 in the core subjects of
Maltese, English and Mathematics. Private schools were given the option to participate in these. St Edward’s
College will take up this option.
It is important to note that these tests will take place at the beginning of June and do not replace our normal
examinations. Due to the general nature of these tests, students cannot study for them.
