Leadership Ceremony On Monday morning our leaders were presented with their badges. It was wonderful to see the parents, grandparents and significant others support the leaders by attending this special event. The children enjoyed the ceremony and demolished their special morning tea. 2016 is sha ping up to be a promising year for our leaders and ensuring Dorset Primary School becomes an even better school. Thank-You Thank-you to the parent community for all the kind words and show of support when it was announced that I had secured the Principal position. I am honoured and excited to be leading this amazing school and looking forward to taking it further to ensure our children receive the best possible education. Dorset is a great school and the school is going from strength to strength. I believe in working together and improving all aspects of the school in every way possible.
Bikes A growing number of children are now riding to school and I need to make parents aware of the rules in place to ensure all our community is safe. All riders have been asked to enter and exit the school via the gate in the staff car park. Riders must dismount and walk their bikes up to the shed. I realise some children live on the Prospect Hill side of the school but they still must ride around and enter via the staff car park gate. Please remind your child to wear a helmet and if he/she is unsure of the route to take a practise run may be advisable. Real Schools Adam Voigt will be at Dorset Primary School on Tuesday the 8th March to coach the teachers and inform the parent community . Please come along to the parent information session it is very informative and Adam is an engaging speaker. Restorative Justice is a high priority at the school and with parent support can become very powerful and equip our children well for the future. Parent/Teacher Interviews The parent teacher interviews (Grade 1-6) have taken place this week. Teachers or parents met to discuss the children in an effort to gather as much information to make 2016 very successful for each child. If you did not have the opportunity to discuss your child with your class teacher. Please see your child's teacher to arrange a time. Regards, Palma Coppa Principal

Garden News Even though we’re only a few months into 2016, we’ve
already enjoyed a varied and delicious harvest from the
garden. Over thirty varieties of fruit and vegetables at
last count. Our students should feel very proud of this
result. These are the fruit and veggies they have grown
from seed, nurtured, potted up and planted out, watered,
harvested and cooked. Also a note of thanks as it’s been
so lovely to be joined by parents and grandparents in the
garden this year. The
children love having
you there, and so do I.
See you in the garden!

Chaplain’s Chat with Dave You Go, Supermum! I am guilty of poor multi-tasking. One day some time ago, my mobile phone rang while I was driving my kids to school. I took my eyes off the road for the briefest moment—a moment that is now burned into my mind—and smashed into the back end of a BMW. I've been told many times that men can't multi-task. But that doesn't mean I can't try, right? My wife, research has shown, is three times more likely to successfully multi-task than I am. We have three children, all of whom she has carried, birthed and nursed. Due to child in triplicate she has received three doses of various oestrogen strains to her brain that I have not received. I feel compelled to cry out with my kids, “That's not fair!” I'll tell you how unfair it is. Just staring at the face of her own baby gives a mother a rush of endorphins. How's that for unfair? I have to climb a mountain or build a rocket-ship to get the same buzz she gets from playing goo-goo. Not fair! Skills that were beneficial in hunt-and-gather societies of the past are still useful to mothers in the modern family. Propelling herself out of bed at the slightest whimper, exiting deep sleep and entering the darkness of night, today's mum weaves her way through unlit hallways, deftly missing couches, tables and random toys underfoot, and arrives at the source of that whimper in record time. But, if you think that's fast—just watch a mum when their inquisitive toddler picks up a bug from the ground and prepares to eat it. Five times faster than your average virgin, mum saves the day! She vaults fences and knocks aside grown men in her single-minded goal to kill the enemy. The bug is unceremoniously squashed. The child is startled for a moment and then all returns to normal. That is until the next time the world needs Supermum. While many mothers may feel their kids are killing them, having children has been shown to slow the ageing process. A combination of the hormones of pregnancy and the busy life of raising children floods the brain with all it needs to stay young! Because of the hormonal gifts given to them through child birth and breast-feeding mums have better memory skills, learning abilities and longevity. So, Mums, because of your choice to have a raise great kids you will live longer, wiser and more interesting lives. You deserve it! Thanks Mum, for all you do. Keep up the great work!

NEWS (AND A REQUEST!)FROM THE SCIENCE
ROOM
Science has got off to a terrific start with all the students
engaged in a range of ‘hands on’ activities. The first term units
have been biological sciences. Grades three and four have been
working on a unit titled ‘Feathers, fur or leaves’ and the grade
five and six unit is ‘Marvellous micro-organisms’. The students
have been thinking, questioning, reasoning, making predictions
and testing theories.
I am just preparing the units of work for next term which will
be physical sciences. I am not going to divulge the topics yet!!
I do need some materials from home to support the program. If
you could send any of the following items it would be greatly
appreciated: ice cream containers with lids; large yogurt
containers with lids; empty soft
drink cans (not beer cans please-I
don’t want to be sending the
wrong message out to our
students!); eye droppers (from old
medicine bottles) and corks ( it is
not necessary to have a fine bottle
of red attached!).
Thankyou
Sally Matheou

Communicating With Our Parent Community
Our school is using an App to send instant messages, newsletters and notices and we are encouraging all families to use it on their iPhone or SmartPhone.
The Tiqbiz app will help our school keep parents fully informed and up-to-date with news, events, newsletters and notices. It’s easy to use and also has the benefit of helping reduce our paper consumption by printing less.
The first step is to download tiqbiz to your phone, tablet, computer … or all of them.
Search for : tiqbiz
Remember to click “allow” notifications when asked. This will allow us to send you important alert notices. For technical information please see the school office for a flyer.
Breakfast Club Helpers & Donations
We are desperately looking for volunteers to help run our wonderful breakfast club. If you could spare half an hour before school to cook some toast and make some warm milo, we would love to hear from you!
We are also currently looking for donations of Milo and jam.
Thank you for your support!!!
Uniform Shop School uniforms can be purchased from our PSW Uniform Shop located near the Foundation rooms. It is open: Every Wednesday from 2.45pm to 3.45pm Order forms are available at the office if you can’t make it on Wednesday.

Welcome back to the new school year! Another week of curious and creative fun! We will be getting our hands dirty this week when we begin making our papier maché masks, recycled material vehicles, and Mr Squiggle-style self-portraits. We would like to welcome our new Coordinator, Charlotte Cheadle. She has recently moved to Melbourne from the New South Wales South Coast, where she was an English and History high school teacher. She’s looking forward to getting to know all of the amazing kids who join us in our afternoon and morning sessions! Camp Australia is always open to new students joining us in the afternoons or in the mornings! Bookings are to be made online, but if the child has a Camp Australia account they can be added as a casual for any service. It is important for parents to remember that if there are any changes to prior arrangements with us that we are informed as soon as possible. Also, don’t forget to update your contact list online along with any other changes in personal details and emergency contacts. Remember that during term 1 and term 4 there is a “No hat: No outside play” policy at Camp Australia in line with government regulations. We look forward to seeing you soon, The Camp Australia Team.
