  • President’s Message

By Freddy RossouwADSBS President, Phillipsburg, Kansas

Hi everyone. I hope everyone is doing well. This has been a challenging year with everything shutting down on local, state and federal level thus forcing us to cancel our regular planned events earlier this year. Most youth shows were cancelled making it difficult to earn futurity points and winning awards for the hard work they

put in to raising their animals. Many of our members have made use of online sales to sell their animals that would have been showcased at the Mid-America Show and Sale Duncan, OK and the Sunflower Classic in Hutchison, KS as well as other regional events. The Southern States Show and Sale is still planed for July 24th and 25th.

April this year the board was notified that due to a health issue, Doug Gillespie was resigning after 12 years of service to the ADSBS and the Executive Secretary. Doug always made sure that all our shows and sales were set up for success. He has served and advised many boards and helped guide our organization growth to be one of the largest breeds in the industry. We wish Doug a full recovery and all the best for the future. We are in the process of seeking a replacement to continue the growth of our organization so we can become an even bigger player in the sheep industry. The office is continuing the good work with Linda Kings successfully completing her probation period. Ronda has stepped up and taken on some of the things that Doug used to take care of. Linda has been keeping up with the registrations and transfers. We have had an increased number of registrations and new memberships. Transfers are lower than last year due to the cancellation of two sales thus far. It is time to nominate candidates for 2021 board members. There will be three board positions needing to be filled due to existing terms expiring and one that was a replacement earlier this year. Please continue with the great work everyone is doing to promote and grow our breed during these tough times.

I hope all our youth and families are doing well. Normally this time of year summer fairs would be in full swing and I’d be traveling to events and getting proud bragging pictures of our outstanding kids with their sheep. Unfortunately, due to Covid-19, the entire spring and summer season of shows and fairs has been thrown into an upheaval with cancelations (including AAJSS sadly among others) with fall shows even teetering on uncertainty. I know this is terribly disappointing for so many, myself included. The great thing about our breed and industry as a whole is our perseverance, no matter what curveballs are thrown our direction. We all miss our “sheep family”, but we “keep on keeping on”, and I encourage all our youth and their families to do just that! I had the immense pleasure to attend the Chisholm Trail “Back to our Roots” youth educational day and show in Cameron, Texas last month. The educational day (sponsored by AJDSS) went great with topics including nutrition, a skillathon and showmanship. The show the next day was chocked full of sheep (I swear the sheep get better every year!). It was a great weekend had by all. We will have a youth “farm tour” and showmanship clinic given by Jessica Waldron at Southern States. (see the website for more info!) and a youth educational seminar at the WSDA Show & Sale in August. Add i t i ona l l y, we were able to run the Production Ewe class from Mid America virtually! The exhibitors submitted videos of their projects

for judging, had a conference call interview and sent their record books via email. I want to thank these kids for taking a big leap in participating and also to our judges, who also had new challenges in doing this virtually. Take a peek at our new youth officers in this report. They have lots of great ideas and I know they are excited to get going. Don’t forget our futurity ewe program! Ewes can be purchased at designated sales, but also can be purchased privately off farm or even one the youth bred out of their own ewe. As always I am an email, text or phone call away with any questions, concerns, ect. Sarah Towery * 940-730-6052 [email protected]

Dorpers and White Dorpers, pioneers of the sheep industry. Not only were we the first breed to offer a “Production Ewe Show”, but our Mid America Production Ewe show was held virtually for the first time ever due to the cancelation of the Mid America Show & Sale in Duncan, OK. Exhibitors submitted videos and their record books electronically via email. Their interviews were also conducted via conference call. It sure wasn’t “normal” but everyone did a great job! Special thank you to our interview and record book judges Ron Waldron and James Averill, along with our live show judges, Wesley Glass and Philip Glass. A large thank you also goes out to Texas Hill Country Dorper Association for their sponsorship of the awards for the exhibitors.

  • American DorperSheep Breeders’ SocietyBoard of Directors Meeting Minutes - March 19, 2020

The Board of Directors of the American Dorper Sheep Breeders Society met via conference call on Thursday, March 19, 2020. The meeting was called to order at 7:03 pm CDT with all members and staff participating. The Board discussed followup actions to take regarding the cancellation of the Mid-America Dorper Sale in Duncan, OK due to the closure of the fairgrounds. Doug Gillespie proposed distributing the sale catalog electronically, encouraging people to shop privately using the consignors and catalog as a resource. It was MOVED, SECONDED and UNANIMOUSLY VOTED to refund entry fees, post the sale catalog with a list of available transporters, and not reschedule the sale or AGM until the quarantines are lifted. It was MOVED, SECONDED and UNANIMOUSLY VOTED to cancel the Dorper Educational Tour in Texas,

originally scheduled for May because of the anticipated travel difficulties. It was MOVED, SECONDED and UNANIMOUSLY VOTED to proceed with the Sunflower Classic Sale in May in Hutchinson, Kansas and re-evaluate the situation around the entry deadline. It was MOVED, SECONDED and VOTED to have Doug Gillespie circulate to the board the announcement of these decisions and that the approved statement would represent the whole board. Doug Gillespie will resend the approved 2020 operating budget to the board via email. The meeting was adjourned at 7:40 pm. Respectfully Submitted Douglas Gillespie/Executive Secretary

The Mid-South Regional Dorper Association has begun designating a show each year as an annual regional show. In 2018, members of the regional association were approached by Mark Powell of the Wilson County Fair and Tennessee Sheep Producers Association about participating in an expanded regional show for a few select breeds. The Wilson County Fair in Lebanon, which is the largest fair in Tennessee, has well-attended Breeding Sheep, Commercial Ewe and Market Lamb shows each year in conjunction with the fair. The goals of the designated regional sheep shows at the Wilson County Fair are to provide incentives for expanded participation by each breed association and to allow for

enhanced promotion of each breed participating. After discussions among the Mid-South Regional membership, it was agreed to designate the 2019 regional show as the First Annual Mid-South Regional Dorper Show, which was held in August. The Dorper show had the highest participation of the regional breed shows, with several Dorper breeders attending from Tennessee and surrounding states. A total of 89 Dorpers and White Dorpers were exhibited. MSRDA President, Dale Carter, presented awards to the champions and reserve champions of each breed in addition to the increased class premiums paid by the Wilson County Fair. Fair personnel commended the Dorper association for the level enthusiasm among the exhibitors and the amount of participation. A complimentary lamb lunch was provided by the fair for exhibitors and their families. The show was judged by Alan Bruhin of Sevierville, TN. In addition to champions shown in the photos, reserve champion winners were: Dorper Reserve Champion Ewe– John Buyrl Neely (Feed My Sheep Ranch 853W), Dorper Reserve Champion Ram– Dillon Jones (Narrow Gate Farm 431), and White Dorper Reserve Champion Ram– Rod Barnes (Barnes Livestock 0150). For 2020, the Wilson County Fair has been canceled due to Covid 19. However, the Wilson County Fair Livestock Shows are currently still scheduled to be held. designated Second Annual Mid-South Regional Dorper Show is planned for Friday, August 21, 2020. Separate shows will be conducted for the White Dorper and Dorper breeds. And a Youth Skill-a-thon Contest will also be held. More information about the Wilson County Southeastern Regional shows as well as their other sheep shows can be found at www.wilsoncountyfair.net/p/competitions-exhibits/animal-shows/sheep . For additional show questions, you may contact officers

or directors of the Mid-South Regional Dorper Association at www.msrda.org . The show is open to all ages and out-of-state exhibitors are welcome. Exhibitors are not required to be members of the Mid-South Regional Dorper Association. This year MSRDA members are especially excited at the prospect of the show since so many others have been canceled this year. All who would like to participate are encouraged to come to the show.

  • The ADSBS Board of Directors met via conference call on March 25, 2020. The meeting was called to order at 7pm CST by President Freddy Rossouw. Participating were Freddie Richardson, Lauri Celella, Wesley Glass, Darroll Grant, Sharon Holman, Alan McAnelly, Robin Rau, Ron Waldron. Also on the call were Executive Secretary Doug Gillespie, Registrar Ronda Seversen, Mr. Nick Forest. The meeting was called at 7:15 as we had phone difficulty. A new number was sent and meeting reconvened at 7:30pm. Minutes from previous meeting, March 19, 2020, were approved as presented. Nick Forest was on call to discuss promoting Dorper lamb. He has applied for a grant for the ADSBS that would be matching funds from the American Lamb Board that would be used to fund a 2020 Dorper lamb culinary road show promoting Dorper meat. – He also told of plans to have a lamb cooking demo in Ohio to 750 chefs 2021. Darroll Grant made motion and Ron Waldron seconded to for him to send in grant as written. Motion passed. Discussion that Doug is ill and Freddie Rossouw will organize the Sunflower Sale and entries will be taken in by the ADSBS main office and Ronda will put together sale catalog. Wesley Glass and committee recommended following: CA State Fair-Eric Bruns, Tim Hall, Mark Chapman and Warren Cude. Southern States-Roger High. NAILE Open-Skip Anderson, Travis Hoffman. 2021-Ft. Worth Youth-Terry Burks and Open-Shawn Ramsey. Lauri Celella made motion and Ron Waldron 2nd to accept the names to be submitted. Motion passed. Sarah Towery proposed that since cancellation of Mid

America sale that the production show be held virtually since all awards have already been purchased and kids still need experience and want to show. Proposed that kids send in video for judging and that interview be done by zoom conference. Paperwork from kids will be sent to Sarah and forwarded to judges for the judging. There will be 2 judges and scores will be averaged or they work together. Freddie Richardson made motion and Robin Rau 2nd to accept these proposed rule changes for this show. Motion passed. Ronda brought up membership changes. If dues not renewed by Jan. 31 members are removed and then registrar must reenter back into system. Is a time/logistical issue. Also, same type of problem with advertising being taken out and printing before paid and some problems collecting. Was decided that all advertising must be paid in full before Report of Journal goes to press. Will talk about more on next call. Ron Waldron asked how animals would be named if someone sold or split a flush on a ewe. Rule will stay same that owner of ewe will register under their flock name and then they can be transferred as desired. Alan McAnelly brought up judges training. Made a motion that “We bring before the general membership a vote to leave our Junior and Senior Course, typing system and training of judges by South Africans or Australians. Is opposed to Americanizing the breed and using Americans to teach courses and train our judges.” He requested a role call vote. Discussion followed on advantages and disadvantages of this proposal. Question was called and Board voted as follows: Lauri Celella-Nay; Darroll Grant-Nay; Wesley Glass-Nay; Sharon Holman-Nay; Alan McAnelly-Yes; Robin Rau-Nay; Freddie Richardson-Yes; Ron Waldron-Nay. Motion failed – 2-6 Wesley Glass made motion and Lauri Celella seconded that Board committed to staying with breed standard and we are committed to educating thru training with international and American instructors. Passed by unanimous vote. Sharon requested we make a trial run on training video on sheep selection that could be used on web page and as educational material. She has a videographer lined up who has equipment – mics, etc. Lauri Celella made motion to use money from education budget and Darroll Grant second to go forward. Motion passed unanimous. Motion was made and seconded to adjourn. Meeting ended at 10pm. Respectfully Submitted, Lauri Celella

The first Dorpers and White Dorpers were born in the US in June of 1995. Embryos from South Africa had been ordered by Dr. Teh of Oklahoma to be shipped to Canada where they were put into recipient ewes. The US did not have an import protocol with South Africa, but Canada did for small ruminants. The US required a preimplant and post implant quarantine in Canada for a total of 90 days. After passing a number of blood tests, the recipts could move across the border. As I recall, pregnant recipts were $5,000 per successful implanted embryo with no guarantee on lamb quality. The only current farms that bought into them were Riverwood and Crane Creek. Other major investors such as, Broadmead Farms, James Hefley and Dr. Teh has since dispersed their flocks. Another embryo importation was made by Dr. Visser with lambs produced in June of 1996. Some of the embryos were purchased by Crane Creek and Grants Dorpers. In this case the embryos were purchased prior to implantation into the recipts and consequently less expensive. The provider of the WD embryos made a trip to the US and spent some time with us a couple of years later. Dr. Visser made embryo importations in two succeeding years. Limited other importations from South Africa through Canada may have occurred. Prior to 1995 Dorpers were imported with a load of Boer goats from South Africa by Jurgen Schultz. After USDA quarantine they were placed in a 5 year scrapie quarantine on his farm in Texas. I do not have any knowledge where those animals went after release. The American Dorper Sheep Breeders Society was organized in 1995-1996. Without the initial involvement of Jim Klingbill of Riverwood Farms (with his capable shepherd Ron Guenther) and partner Jim Harper of Broadmead Farms, Dorper sheep would not have had the early exposure they were afforded. White Dorper sheep were displayed at the World Sheep Expo in Los Angeles, California by Grants Dorpers. A small number of Dorpers were sold at the Mid West Stud Ram Sale in 2002. Dolf Lategan may have been the judge. The ADSBS brought in a South African judge for the next sale. Penned sheep were met with snickers, sneers and head shaking. Show time was the last event of the day. The bleachers were full and standing room was minimally three people deep. The sale was well attended with excellent

prices. The Mexican border was open for the importation of sheep. Many of the top sheep went to Mexico in the early MWSRS years. A large Dorper farm near Calgary, Alberta brought sheep to Sedalia and provided genetics to other US producers. By 2004 interest in Dorpers was evident from breeders of other MWSRS breeds. In 2005 a number of bidders were on hand from other breeds and Dorpers spread into other experienced sheep showing hands. Subsequently Dorpers have moved into the commercial sheep industry with large flocks from Wyoming to Texas and the east coast to the west coast. The vision of the late Craig Jones resulted in the

development of a Dorper branded product sold in a number of high end stores. With a processing plant located in strong Dorper country, they are able to offer a constant premium price for quality Dorper lambs. Dorper Clubs have been organized in some states or areas to aid local breeders with educational events and sales. The ADSBS has organized a multi-day Dorper Course with qualified trainers from South Africa or Australia for 15+ years. This allows breeders to become familiar with the South African breed standards. A number of recognized US sheep judges have been trained to provide a judge pool available for fairs and show with Dorper entries. The ADSBS hired an executive secretary a dozen years back to advise the board, plan sales and represent the ADSBS at selected shows. Until his recent resignation Doug Gillespie filled that position. Thank you Doug for your efforts and advising a board that could be trying at times. The common human connection among all US Dorper breeders is Ronda Seversen, the registrar. She has done an outstanding job over the 20+ years she has worked for the ADSBS. The work load has increased requiring a part time assistant.

A youth program has been developed and is a work in progress with more local and national events available. Sarah Towery is the part time youth director employed to facilitate and coordinate youth opportunities. Several youth have earned $10,000 scholarships with their placings in major livestock shows. Classes at major livestock shows have been developed for Dorper sheep. It is not uncommon for Dorpers to have the greatest breed entries. Frequently, Dorpers have placed in the top five for the supreme drives. Several have been selected as the supreme champion. Dorper carcasses have been entered in carcass contests at major livestock shows. In several cases they have placed at the top with a disproportionate number of places in the top ten. Dorper sheep have surpassed the original investors imaginations. There are still mountains to climb and rivers to be crossed to achieve that intangible goal that keeps moving on. As new technology becomes available progress can be more rapid and accurate. Dorpers are a work in progress. What are some issues that the membership would like have considered for improvement?

Hello! First, I would like to thank everyone who voted for me. I will try my best to do a wonderful job. I'm very excited to meet new people and to see what the youth members will bring to the club and this breed. On Tuesday , June second in our conference call we went over some new ideas for some of the youth. We came up with the idea of having more show camps throughout the United states that lasted up to two or three days. We have also talked about games for the youth and the dorper shows like a scavenger hunt and a trivia game. There was also a mention of having representatives from different states/areas to give us some ideas and suggestions on what we could do differently or change. In this conference there was even a mention of having senior scholarships. Our next meeting is early July around the seventh.

There is still a good selection of embryos available with genetics unique to the US flocks. Contact Darroll Grant at [email protected] The Burrawang Dorper and White Dorper Stud in Australia produces rams for ram customers and lambs for their prime lamb market. When not in drought, they run 8,000 commercial ewes and 2,000 stud ewes. They supply 1,000 lambs/month to the abattoir. Since payment is on quality and quantity of product on the hook, they are greatly interested in rapid growth of a quality product. This means that their focus is the same as their ram customers. Rather unique for a stud operation. Normally lambs are grown and finished in the paddock. However, in drought times lambs are finished in a novel feedlot. Feed conversion ratios of 3:1 are commonly achieved. Dressing percentages over 55% are common in producing the 48-53 pound premium carcasses. Ewes are managed extensively without shearing, hoof trimming or hands on lambing. All stud sheep have been DNA parent tested. Lambs are tagged when worked and DNA collected for identification of parents. Parentage testing is less expensive than manually mothering up the lambs from 2,000 ewes. Ewes are exposed more than once/year. Rams are sold privately by the truck load and in some vendor sales. A recent vendor sale resulted in a Burrawang average of over $1750 with all sold. The total sale average was just over $1,000. Burrawang has sold all available rams for 7 years. About 3,500 embryos have been collected

from the top sheep annually for a number of years. Some have been exported to China, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia and Mexico. This is the first embryo shipment to the USA. Other embryos are used to more rapidly increase the most productive sheep in the flock. Semen and embryos were imported from an Australian stud sired by a Burrawang bred ram some years back. The first one in a public sale was the recent Texas Hill Country White Dorper Champion ewe. Their skilled technician and embryologist recently achieved an 80% success rate on 550 embryos in Mexico. Burrawang infrequently exhibit their sheep. The 2019 Australian Supreme Champion Ram was their White Dorper ram Piet, one of the White Dorper embryo sires. The sheep are classed by an outside accredited person. The donors of these embryos were selected by Raymond Read out of 200 type 5 stud ewes that had produced type 5 lambs. The sires are type 5 and have sired type 5 lambs. Due to selection emphasis, the Dorpers and White Dorpers temperaments are similar in the stud. The Burrawang stud manager, Wicus Cronje, taught the junior Dorper Course and judged at the April Mid America Show and Sale. He owns the oldest Dorper stud in South Africa. Many Dorper course instructor-ships and shows are in his resume. The Dorper genetics are primarily from his South African stud. The White Dorper genetics trace back to Kasteel, Snyman and the Kotze Alliance.

American DorperSheep Breeders’ SocietyBoard of Directors Meeting Minutes - April 23, 2020 The board met by conference call on April 23rd the meeting was called to order at 7:05 pm by President Freddy Rossouw. Members present were: Freddie Richardson, Ron Waldron, Sarah Towery, Lauri Celella, Wesley Glass, Darroll Grant, Sharon Holman, Alan McAnelly and Judi Mault. Doug Gillespie was invited, but didn’t attend. Alan asked about the last two minutes. Lauri took minutes on the March 25th and will get them out tomorrow. There is no recording on March 25th meeting because the connection was terrible and everyone dialed into a new free conference call line. There were no minutes from the previous meeting because it was an Executive Session. Sarah informed the board she had a request from a youth member’s parent about having virtual shows. Discussion followed and it was decided it would be difficult to do because the animals could not physically be checked for structural faults and the quality of video could affect the outcome. Freddie Richardson moved, Ron Waldron seconded, John Buryl Neely will receive the 2020 Senior and Abigayle Houser will receive the Junior Youth Member of the Year Awards. Motion passed.Alan McAnelly moved, Sharon Holman seconded, Wade Littlefield will receive the 2020 Adult Member of the Year. Motion passed. Lauri & Sharon suggested opening the Member of the Year awards to the membership to nominate someone who is deserving of the Youth and Adult Member of the Year Awards for 2021. Sarah was excused from the meeting at 7:30. Alan McAnelly moved, Freddie Richardson seconded, Paul Lewis and Robin Rau would receive a trophy for serving on the board. Motion passed. Unfortunately Doug was not able to attend the meeting however he did email the board prior to the meeting informing

us about his status. The board accepted Doug’s resignation and asked for the membership to be notified about Doug’s decision to resign from his position for health reasons. The board unanimously decided to give Doug an award for his 12 years of service to ADSBS. Freddy Rossouw reported he was working on getting all the usernames and passwords for all ADSBS email and social media accounts. Darroll Grant moved, Ron Waldron seconded, would pay Doug Gillespie through the month of June (based on his contract). Motion passed. Ron Waldron agreed to contact NAILE and inform them Skip Anderson is our nomination for the judge. Freddy Rossouw informed the board we had a CD coming due and what the new terms and interest rate would be. Lauri Celella moved, Freddie Richardson seconded, to go with the 8 month CD at 1.7%. Motion passed. Freddy reported on the Covid 19 situation for the Sunflower Classic Sale. The Governor will be lifting the stay at home order on May 3rd. Ronda Seversen will be doing the catalog. Darroll Grant moved, Judi Mault seconded, to continue on with the Sunflower Classic Sale in Kansas. Motion passed. Freddy stated since Doug was no longer with us, Ronda can do several things, but organizing Southern States sale would need to be done by someone else. Wes Glass asked how Freddy felt about acting as interim Executive Secretary. Freddy stated he will plan Cookeville, TN. Ronda’s crew will clerk. Freddy agreed to take on the interim Executive Secretary. Darroll stated he should not do it for free, so how much was he going to get paid for taking it on. Wes Glass stated to table this for now and contact Dale Carter and make sure they don’t want to take over the Southern States sale. Freddy will think about the compensation and email the directors and go from there. The Dorper Report deadline is July 1st. Ronda will speak to The Hollida Co to see how they worked with Doug on the Dorper Report. Freddy asked the board to ask members for articles for the Dorper report. Darroll Grant moved, Judi Mault seconded, to have the board approve Ronda to access the [email protected] email address and forward personal emails to Doug. Motion passed. Darroll Grant moved, Ron Waldron seconded, to Adjourn. Motion passed. Meeting was dismissed Respectfully Submitted, Freddy Rossouw/Ronda Seversen

American DorperSheep Breeders’ SocietyBoard of Directors Meeting Minutes - June 4, 2020

The American Dorper Sheep Breeders’ Society Board of Directors met via conference call on June 4, 2020. The meeting was called to order at 7:06 PM CST by President Freddy Rossouw. Participating were Ron Waldron, Freddie Richardson, Judi Mault, Alan McAnelly, Darroll Grant, Sharon Holman, Lauri Celella and Wesley Glass joined later. Also on the call were Youth Coordinator, Sarah Towery and Registrar Ronda Seversen. Alan requested a record of the ADSBS Board Executive Session conference call be added to the ADSBS Board Minute notebook Ronda has in the office. Ron Waldron moved and Darroll Grant seconded, to approve the minutes from the March 25, and April 23, 2020 conference calls. Motion passed. Youth Committee ~ Sarah reported the youth officers have been elected. Jonathan Kough is the President, Kiersten Reed is Vice President, Addison Kough is Secretary and Henslie Hohertz is Treasurer. The first conference call meeting was held on Tuesday and it went very well. There will be an educational event held during Chisholm Trail over Father’s Day weekend. Since the All-American Show was cancelled this year, there were volunteers that got together to form the Youth Sheep Expo in Indiana, July 29 to August 2. The budget had $300 going to the Midwest Junior Preview Show and since this show has been cancelled can the $300 be reallocated to help sponsor the Dorper division at the Youth Sheep Expo. They need $650 total, therefore the remaining $350 they are going to try to get private breeder sponsors to make up the difference. This is a one time show, which is taking place of the 2020 All-American Show. Sharon Holman moved, Judi Mault seconded, to reallocate the $300 from the cancelled Midwest Junior Preview Show over to the Youth Sheep Expo for this year only. Motion passed. Sarah is going to check with the All-American Show if the money we donated will be refunded or if it will go towards next year. Ron Waldron will double check but he thinks they will roll the money over to the 2021 show. Freddy stated if this is the case, then we need to make note not to budget the All-American for next year. The Futurity program will be kept the same for 2020-2021. Sarah was excused from the call.

Finance Committee ~ Darroll reviewed the April 2020 financials. So far this year, we are in the red partially because of the Mid America Sale being cancelled. May registration total was 1301 and that is a record. Marketing Committee ~ Judi Mault reported putting the advertising on hold due to the Covid 19. Photo contest entry deadline is July 1st. Show & Sale Committee ~ Alan McAnelly stated the Tennessee Sale is still on. Freddie Richardson stated Nate Houser, auctioneer, they have a Plan B if things change due to the Covid 19. Freddy Rossouw had a conversation with Dale Carter and their club does not want to take over the sale. Dorper Report deadline is July 1st. Freddy reviewed the procedure and pricing of the special placement ads for the Dorper Report and Dorper Journal. Everything will remain the same this year and be reevaluated at a later date. Freddy stated he had 15 hours as the interim Executive Secretary, since Doug’s resignation. Alan McAnelly stated that our bylaws say board members serve without compensation, so if Freddy is paid, we are violating our bylaws. Lauri Celella moved, Ron Waldron seconded, due to the unordinary circumstances, that we compensate Freddy at $25/hr for 15 hours = $375.00 total, for filling in for Doug until we get a replacement hired. Alan and Judi opposed. Ron, Wesley, Sharon, Darroll, Freddie, Laurie in favor. Motion passed. Darroll reviewed the Agnathia problem. Discussion on the Executive Secretary advertisement. Freddy will put the ad together and email it to the entire Board for approval. Once approved, the ad will be put on social media, our website, in the Dorper Report. Wesley Glass moved, Sharon Holman seconded to adjourn the meeting and reconvene on Tuesday, June 9 to come up with a final Executive Secretary job description. Freddy asked everyone to email their ideas/salary and will go over everything on the next conference call. Motion passed. Meeting ended at 10:00 PM. Respectfully Submitted, Lauri Celella/Ronda Seversen

American DorperSheep Breeders’ SocietyBoard of Directors Meeting Minutes - June 9, 2020

The ADSBS Board of Directors met via conference call on June 9, 2020. The meeting was called to order at 7:06 pm CST by President Freddy Rossouw. Participating were Freddy Rossouw, Freddie Richardson, Lauri Celella, Wesley Glass, Darroll Grant, Sharon Holman, Alan McAnelly, Judi Mault. Ron Waldron was not available due to work conflict. Also on the call was Registrar Ronda Seversen. Darroll Grant stated that he, Lauri Celella and Wesley Glass agreed to chip in and pay the $375 to Freddy Rossouw for the interim Executive Secretary hours he has put in thus far. Darroll Grant moved, Judi Mault seconded, to open the position of Executive Secretary as a contract, part time position at $30,000/year. Motion passed. Ronda wanted the board to review the Regulations and Procedures for the Registration of Dorper/White Dorper Sheep. Shorten the 5 page document down to 1 page. It was discussed to accept registrations from other countries only if legal import protocols were followed. Lauri Celella moved, Darroll Grant seconded, to condense the pages of the Regulations and Procedures. Motion passed.

Discussion followed on registration fees charged for percentage animals. Was tabled until a later date. (554 animals registered in 2019 at $5.00 per head, and 417 animals already registered in 2020 at $5.00 per head.) General discussion concerning the bylaw issue with President Freddy Rossouw getting paid for the interim Executive Secretary position. Freddy decided to make it simple and donate the 15 hours he has already put in and resign as the interim Executive Secretary, because of the potential legality issue. Freddy informed everyone he will not be going to Cookeville, TN, but he will continue on as the President of the ADSBS. Freddy thanked Darroll, Wesley and Lauri for their generosity for wanting to pay him the $375, but he will donate those 15 hours. Freddy Rossouw and Laurie Celella will put out the ad for Executive Secretary position ASAP via social media, Dorper Report, Universities etc. Lauri Celella moved, Darroll Grant seconded, to adjourn. Motion passed. Respectfully Submitted, Lauri Celella/Ronda Seversen
