O brothers let's go down...Let's go down, come on down...Come on brothers, let's go down...Down in the river to pray.” Does that song not paint a beautiful picture? Visualize this: you have walked down a narrow dirt covered path, and now you are sitting on the bank of a tranquil river. You are watching it flow quietly downstream. The ripples of the water are graceful and smooth, and the scenery surrounding you is exhibiting a serene back drop. You begin to experience the presence of the Creator of the world near you. You initiate a prayer beginning with thankfulness in your heart for the beauty that is encircling you. God's peace quietly begins to ooze into your soul, and you eventually begin to find your much needed rest. Where is the ancient path, in other words, the “good ol' way” for God's people to follow? The old path for the righteous to travel was long-ago established by God. For example, two prophets in the Old Testament, such as Jeremiah and Ezekiel, were pointing out the way by speaking about repentance, and to believe in the coming of the Messiah. In the New Testament, in the Book of John, Jesus speaking to Thomas said: “I am the way...No one comes to the Father except through me.” Jesus Christ is the way, the “good ol' way”, which will lead you from darkness to light; from oppression to freedom; from gloom to happiness, and the Kingdom of God. So brothers and sisters, why not go “down in the river to pray” to study “about that good ol' way”. Ask the “Lord (to) show (you) the way!” It is a sure way, a way where you can stand on His promise(s) where you will receive rest for your soul. You can say: I found Him; I found the “good ol' (godly) way”, down by the river! “Let's go down, come on down...Down in the river to pray”! Lord God, thank You for showing us the old way, which is the good way to walk in. Help us to always seek the godly way. Amen. ~ Ann Brock, Daily Prayer Submitted by Gary Brightwell

There's nothing like a good old gospel tune to fill my heartwith joy and the movie, O Brother Where Art There, was

full of good ones. It surely fits where my heart has beenof late.

The Good Ol' Way

“So now the LORD says...Stop right where you are! Lookfor the old, godly way, and walk in it. Travel its path, andyou will find rest for your souls.”

~Jeremiah 6:16a

One of my favorite songs from that movie is: “Down tothe River to Pray” by Allison Krauss. A few lyrics are:

“As I went down in the river to pray...Studying about thatgood ol' way...And who shall wear the starry crown?

Good Lord show me the way!...O sisters let's godown...Let's go down, come on down...O sisters let's godown...Down in the river to pray. As I went down in the

river to pray...Studying about that good ol' way...And whoshall wear the robe & crown? Good Lord show me the

way. O brothers le t's go down...Let's go down, come ondown...Come on brothers, let's go down...Down in theriver to pray.”

Does that song not paint a beautiful picture? Visualize

this: you have walked down a narrow dirt covered path, and now you are sitting on the bank of a tranquil river. You are watching it flow quietly downstream. The ripples

The first priority of the Church is always proclamationof the Good News of Jesus Christ; in all the manifoldways the Body of Christ accomplishes that task together.

There are many obstacles, however, that can disruptthe mission of the Church and distract us from ourprimary task. These events drain away our energy andnegatively impact our missionary effectiveness.

Bishop Mark Lawrence will be leading gatherings atfive locations around the Diocese at which he willspeak to some of the current events that sap ourstrength, answer questions and reflect on how tore-focus and build a Kingdom and Gospel mindset. All clergy and laity are invited to the gatherings.
