Becoming Like Jesus Through Ministry

Page 4: Disciple sermon 6.1

We will see how He ministered to people and why He ministered to them.

As we look to Jesus we can compare our “how” and “why” of ministry to His.

Ministry is meeting the needs of others whether the need be social, physical, and or spiritual.

The splanchnizomai word group is not used frequently in the NT.

The word originally indicated the inner parts of the body (from the guts) and came to suggest the seat of the emotions--particularly emotions of pity, compassion, and love.

When the response of Jesus is such that He is described as being moved by compassion, the occasion is often the turning point in one's life ...

Compassion moved Jesus to take measures that affected the lives of those whose needs moved Him.

Page 14: Disciple sermon 6.1

God calls you and I to have compassion on others and to participate in ministry.

That call is more than an appeal for us to feel with and for the needy (pity).

It is a call to care enough to become involved and to help by taking some action that will set others' lives on a fresh, new course.

Page 18: Disciple sermon 6.1

◦Today’s Lesson is a look at Matthew and the times in this gospel where Jesus is shown to have compassion. I want us to notice a progression.

◦He had compassion: for what reasons, andThen, what happened?

Today’s Lesson:

Page 19: Disciple sermon 6.1

Mateus 9:35-36

Page 20: Disciple sermon 6.1

◦“Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. 36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.”

Matthew 9:35-36

Page 21: Disciple sermon 6.1

Mateus 9:37-38

Page 22: Disciple sermon 6.1

◦“ Then He said to his disciples, "The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. 38 Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into His harvest field."

Mateus 15:29-34

Page 26: Disciple sermon 6.1

“Jesus left there and went along the Sea of Galilee. Then he went up on a mountainside and sat down. 30 Great crowds came to him, bringing the lame, the blind, the crippled, the mute and many others, and laid them at his feet; and he healed them. “

Matthew 15:29-34

O Impacto

Page 30: Disciple sermon 6.1

It is unfair and unrealistic to think that we can change the world with our compassion.

It is even too much of a stretch to think that our compassion can change this whole community.

But by acting in compassion we can make a change in an individual.

The Impact

Page 31: Disciple sermon 6.1

Page 32: Disciple sermon 6.1

Think of when people went out of their way to make sure that you were taken care of, physically, socially, and or spiritually.

Compassion is when people take the concern that they have for you and their love for God and put them into practice.

Do we provide a menu and everyone then chooses what they do and do not like and the price that comes with it or

Are we like a buffet that has chosen what it offers and makes that available to people at one fixed cost?

At a buffet the quality of the ingredients and the manner of presentation makes a difference!
