Serving God in Peru - LCMS International The DiLibertos January 2013 January has been another exciting and FULL month here at the Peru mission. We’ve hosted many teams & visitors this month, and Anthony and I became Godparents together for the first time. Our first visitors were with us from January 8-15 from Concordia University, Wisconsin. Eight students, their missions professor, and their deaconess came to shadow the mission and its missionaries for a week. Each day we had two new people with us learning about what we do and what it’s like to be a missionary. They were very helpful and encouraging, and we were happy to have them with us. While the Wisconsin team was here, we had a baptism in Los Olivos. A couple in the church had a baby girl, Ruth Esmeralda, on December 30. Anthony and I were asked to be Godparents for her, and we gladly accepted. Ruth’s oldest brother is Edition 7 “He saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit.” Titus 3:5 January 2013

Serving God in Peru - LCMS International

The DiLibertos

January 2013 January has been another exciting and

FULL month here at the Peru mission. We’ve

hosted many teams & visitors this month, and

Anthony and I became Godparents together for

the first time.

Our first visitors were with us from January

8-15 from Concordia University, Wisconsin. Eight

students, their missions professor, and their

deaconess came to shadow the mission and its

missionaries for a week. Each day we had two

new people with us learning about what we do

and what it’s like to be a missionary. They were

very helpful and encouraging, and we were happy

to have them with us.

While the Wisconsin team was here, we

had a baptism in Los Olivos. A

couple in the church had a baby girl,

Ruth Esmeralda, on December 30.

Anthony and I were asked to be

Godparents for her, and we gladly

accepted. Ruth’s oldest brother is

Edition 7

“He saved us, not because of works done by us in

righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the

washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit.”

Confirmation

Above is a picture of Angel’s confirmation. He is moving to the jungle and then going on to

Brazil, so we confirmed him in a special little service on January 24 at the office. Pastor Martin Teigen was here for one of his regular visits at the time, so he was able to help officiate the

service. Please pray for Angel as he moves, and pray that he would find a community of

Lutheran believers to support him and continue to help him

grow in his faith wherever he is.

Castillo Fuerte, Casa de Misericordia On January 10, Anthony, Rachel, and Rosita kicked off their summer English

Workshop at Castillo Fuerte, Casa de Misericordia (Mighty Fortress Mercy House) in La Victoria. They have had several children attend every Tuesday and Thursday

afternoon when it is offered. Please continue to pray that we would find a permanent location for the Mercy House very soon so that they don’t have to set up and take

down in the park every day like they have been, and so that they can start new programs for the children soon.

Elvis, our seminarian in Los Olivos (there’s a

difference of 20 years between the two of them). Praise

God for the forgiveness and life He gives us in

Baptism!

As soon as the Wisconsin team left (the same

day in fact), we started welcoming our guests for the

Forum we had this month with our Institutional

Partners. We will have a meeting like this twice a

year. The idea is that our partners would keep us

accountable to the mission strategy while at the same

time providing support for the mission through their

institutions. We welcomed three men from Lutheran

Hour Ministries, a representative from the

Southeastern District of the LCMS, the District

President of the Northern Illinois District of the

LCMS, Latin America Regional Director Rev. Ted

Krey, and our Ecclesiastical Supervisor, Pastor Martin

Teigen. They were also a great support and

encouragement for us during their time here, and will

continue to be throughout the years of the mission.

Following the forum, we had about 5 days

without visitors, and during that time we hosted two

Coffee & Conversation nights. We praise God for a

bigger group and new people who are coming every

3

week. We are especially thankful for the people

from Coffee & Conversation who are getting

involved in other activities of the mission. This

month we ask that you would especially pray for

Juan, who has been regularly attending Sunday

services (his Coffee & Conversation friend,

Eduardo, encouraged him to do so), and for Carlos,

a newcomer to Coffee & Conversation who has

been helping us with the English workshops in La

Victoria this month. We pray that the Gospel would

touch their hearts and create saving faith.

On January 29, a wonderful team from

Memorial Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, South

Dakota arrived after a delay in Chicago due to a

cancelled flight. They are helping us with a VBS in

Los Olivos until February 4. We are using a water

theme for the VBS and teaching the kids stories

about the ways God has saved people in and through

water. We will have our closing program for the VBS

this Sunday.

Three people from the South Dakota group

will stay 2 extra days to make a visit to Lunahuana

with Julia and me (Jamie) so they can see their

friends there. We hope to plan a Chitachay showing

with the community while we are there.

To support our work financially, you may send a tax-deductible gift to:

The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod P.O. Box 790089

Prayer Requests Thank God for the people he has placed

in our lives. Pray that we would be bold

to share His Gospel message.

1.

2.

3.

Thank God for the short-term teams and

the way they serve and encourage here

on the mission field.

Continue to pray that we find a

permanent location for the Mercy

House, and thank God for the English

classes and relationship building that is

happening through them.

4.

Thank God for Angel’s confirmation

and Ruth Esmeralda’s baptism this

month. Pray for both of them as they

continue to grow in faith.

6.

This month, please pray for Eduardo,

Carlos, and Juan as they get to know the

mission better. Also pray for Cesar and

Lidiana as they finish up catechism

classes and prepare to be confirmed.

5. Thank God for the Institutional

Partners he has connected us with, and

pray that our partnership would be a

blessing to the mission.
