When I’ve fought with a spouse because we’re late once again. When we've walked in bearing burdens heavier than our heart can handle, yet masking the pain with a smile on our face. When we've worn a scarlet letter, under the microscope. When we've longed for a baby to hold, or fought tears as the lyrics were sung. When we've walked back in, afraid and broken, after walking away. Let's remember, He has never failed to meet us there, the Church. Why aren't you there?

St. Vincent’s Cathedral

We at St. Vincent’s are a community of disciples who know Jesus Christ in a personal way, who seek to live by the truth of His Word, and who

reach out to others in love.

THANKFUL FOR MY CHURCH FAMILY… David Johnson, Sr. Warden (author unknown)

Church is hard. Church is hard for the person walking through the doors, afraid of judgment. Church is hard for the Priest's family, under the microscope of an entire body. Church is hard for the prodigal soul returning home, broken and battered by the world. Church is hard for the girl who looks like she has it all together, but doesn’t. Church is hard for the couple who fought the entire ride to service. Church is hard for the single mom, surrounded by couples holding hands, and seemingly perfect families. Church is hard for the widow and widower with no invitation to lunch after service. Church is hard for the parent with an estranged child. Church is hard for the person singing worship songs, overwhelmed by the weight of the lyrics. Church is hard for the man insecure in his role as a leader. Church is hard for the wife who longs to be led by a righteous man. Church is hard for the nursery volunteer who desperately longs for a baby to love. Church is hard for the single woman and single man, praying God brings them a mate. Church is hard for the teenage girl, wearing a scarlet letter, ashamed of her mistakes. Church is hard for the sinners. Church is hard for me. It’s hard because on the outside it all looks shiny and perfect. Sunday best in behavior and dress. The Holy Noise

During the Great Vigil of Easter, the Bishop makes the tradi-tional Easter proclamation: “Alleluia! Christ is Ris-en!” This is the first time since before Lent that we’ve used the word Allelu-ia. Everyone joyfully re-sponds: “The Lord is risen indeed! Alleluia!” And then chaos ensues which is aptly called “the Holy Noise.” The lights come on. We pull out the bells and noisemakers amid crashing organ chords while we sing The Gloria and make a holy noise, expressing our joy in Christ’s Resurrec-tion.

Be sure to bring your bell to The Great Vigil service! Cow-bells are especially successful in standing out during the cacopho-nous Holy Noise. Car keys are a decent alternative if you do end up forgetting.

Play A Round For The Kids

Come spend a day with me.

If your youth are not attending Sunday School in the HQ, why not? Everyone has the time to give 45 minutes to the spiritual nourishment of their chil-dren. Church Youth Groups are not found in your public schools, sports teams or frankly, many time in our own homes. Allowing your children to spend a small fraction of their Sunday with their peers is worth sticking around after Mass. Give it a try, just once, and see how it works. It’s worth it...for our children. What’s your excuse?

BISHOP IKER VISITS HIS CATHEDRAL, FEBRUARY 3RD

Bishop Iker made a short-notice visit to his Cathedral on Sunday, February 3rd. While he did not preach, he was Principle Celebrant and was able to make brief comments about his health and ongoing treatment. For his visit, the Te Deum was sung and we had two thurifers serving. It was a great and wonderful Mass for all.

A NOTE FROM BISHOP MAGANGANI, ANGLICAN DIOCESE OF NORTHERN MALAWI

Thank you very much for enquiring about our situation in Malawi. Indeed there have been these catastrophic situa-tion cause by the Cyclone Idai. Much damages have been in Mozambique and Zimbabwe. Here in Malawi we have been affected but not as these two countries in our region.

Here in Malawi as on the attached photos the effects have been bad in Southern Malawi where those photos were taken. Unlike in the North where we are. In our area one of our Deanery, Karonga has been affected by a dry spell and the farmers will harvest nothing. While our colleagues in the South are affected with the floods we have the dry spell in the North, Karonga area.

On 8 March, the president of the republic of Malawi declared a state of disaster in the areas affected by ongoing rain and flooding. This is as result of Cyclone Idai rains that the country received for four days from 5th -8th March, 2019. This has caused flooding in a number of districts mostly in Lowe Shire of the Southern region of the country. As of 12th March 2019, at least 14 districts have been impacted, affecting approximately 468,650 people and displacing more than 31,700 people. At least 48 people have been killed and over 547 injured.

The number of people reported affected, injured, and dead is likely to increase over the coming days, as results from assessments are made available. The numbers are also likely to increase as heavy rain and thunderstorms fol-lowing Tropical Cyclone Idai are forecast to continue.

So far all we need is prayer that this should not continue into our areas in the North. We also need to pray for our colleagues in Karonga to get more rains. So far so good we are not that much affected in the North but our friends in the South.

Thank you very much for asking about us.

May God bless you so much.

FROM THE VERGER

On Thursday, February 28, the REC Diocese of Mid-America held its annual synod at Church of the Holy Communion, Dallas. As a member of the Board of Directors of the Verger's Guild of the ACNA, David Johnson, Cathedral Verger at St. Vincent's, assisted by Ron Turner, Dean’s Verger Emeritus, St. Vincent's, presented three candidates for Verger to Bishop Ray Sutton for installation at their respective parishes. These include: Bruce Bagby, Church of the Holy Trinity, Houston; Harry K. Johnson, Cathedral of St. Matthias, Katy; and Robert Stroth-er, Church of the Holy Communion, Dallas.

Important 2019 calendar dates set for the Election of a Bishop Coadjutor

Following a Feb. 4th meeting, members of the Nominating Committee began organizing candidate visits and inter-views, much as a search committee does when seeking a new rector. This will help the Committee determine a fi-nal slate of candidates, to be announced in Eastertide. Diocesan canons require at least three names to be placed in nomination. Biographical material and other information about each of the finalists will be published widely at that time. In addition, a process for submitting additional nominations by petition (also called ‘nominations from the floor’) will be announced.

On Saturday, May 11th, a Candidate Forum will be held at St. Andrew’s, Fort Worth, for all clergy and their wives, and all lay delegates and alternates. These representatives, coming from each congregation, will have time to ask questions of each nominee. Afterward, audio and video recordings from the Forum will be made public online.

The Special Convention for the Election of a Bishop Coadjutor will be held Saturday, June 1st, at St. Vincent’s Cathedral. The name of the Coadjutor-elect will be announced that day.

In accord with ACNA canons, the College of Bishops must examine and approve the Coadjutor-elect. This will occur during their regular meeting on June 14th-15th. The bishops are scheduled to gather at Christ Church in Plano, the same location where the first Archbishop was installed 10 years ago. Once the College of Bishops gives its consent, the Coadjutor-elect will be eligible for consecration.

God willing, the consecration service for the Bishop Coadjutor will take place Saturday, Sept. 21st, the Feast of St. Matthew the Apostle, with Archbishop Foley Beach and Bishop Iker serving as chief consecrators. This service will include representatives from each congregation and numerous guests. The Bishop Coadjutor will begin mak-ing parish visitations on Sunday, Sept. 22nd.

A retirement celebration for Bishop Iker will take place at a banquet following the opening Eucharist of the 37th annual Diocesan Convention, on Friday, Nov. 15th, in Granbury. Retired Archbishop Robert Duncan will be the keynote speaker after dinner. The regular Convention business meeting will be held Saturday, Nov. 16th.

Bishop Iker will continue to serve as chief pastor of the Diocese until his retirement on Dec. 31, 2019, when the Coadjutor will succeed him, becoming Fourth Bishop of Fort Worth on New Year’s Day. His service of installa-tion as Diocesan Bishop will be held Saturday, Jan. 4, 2020, at St. Vincent’s Cathedral. Bishop Iker will hand him the bishop’s crosier at that time, completing the transition of leadership.

Bishop Iker and the Standing Committee extend their sincere thanks to the Nominating Committee for the work done so far and look forward to being updated on the committee's progress in the weeks ahead. Please continue to hold the members in your prayers and to pray for the guidance of the Holy Spirit as our next Bishop is chosen.

NEW CHAPEL AT DFW AIRPORT

On Thursday, March 21st, Fr. Greg McBrayer, Assistant Priest at St. Barnabas, Ft. Worth (left) participated in a rib-bon cutting ceremony for a new chapel space in Terminal D at DFW Airport. Fr. McBayer is a member of the airport’s chaplaincy team; he conducts services and provides pastoral care to passengers, crew, and ground employees. DFW’s is the largest airport chaplaincy program in the world. A con-secration service for the new chapel’s Altar will be conduct-ed later this spring.

Also, beginning in April, Fr. Kalimi will begin ministry at the chapel on Sunday mornings.

STATE SUPREME COURT HAS PETITION ‘UNDER CONSIDERATION’

On Friday, February 8th, attorneys for the Diocese and Corporation received notice that the Texas Supreme Court was requesting briefs “on the merits” in our appeal. While our Petition for Review remains “under consideration” by the Court, this was very good news, signaling that the Court wishes to take a closer look at the April 2018 deci-sion of the Second Court of Appeals. This is often the next step before the Court grants a Petition for Review.

It was the decision of the high Court in 2013 that neutral principles of law should govern disputes over church property in Texas, yet the only judge of the Fort Worth court of appeals to sign an opinion took an approach that effectively reverted to the deference standard in that opinion.

The letter set a date of March 11th for our legal team to file our brief. Following that, the Court asked the TEC parties to respond by April 1st, after which the Diocese will make a closing reply by April 16th. Once these brief-ings are complete, we hope to hear that the Court has accepted our Petition for Review and the appeal is moving forward. Please continue to pray for the Court and for our attorneys.

We thank God for His blessings and put our trust in His plans.

PASTORAL COMMUNICATION

Dean Reed’s contact information is: email: [email protected] cell phone: 817-675-5050.

If you are going into the hospital, please don’t as-sume one of the clergy is going to hear about it through the grapevine. If you tell one of the clergy something important on Sunday morning after Mass as you exit the church, please don’t assume they are going to remember unless they write it down. If you are upset about something or pleased about some-thing, please don’t assume the clergy know how you are feeling. If you need Communion brought to your home, don’t assume the clergy know.

Please call so we can respond to your pastoral needs.

St. Vincent's now has an Amazon Smile account. This is a great way to support St. Vincent's! By going through Amazon Smile, everything during your pur-chase is the same (including prices and discounts), except for Amazon will give a percentage of your purchases back to the church. To use this as a meth-od of supporting St. Vincent's, please follow the link below and sign in to your Amazon account. After you have registered with Amazon Smile and added St. Vincent's account, you simply need to go to smile.amazon.com each time you shop rather than just Amazon.com. Thank you!
