In February, the good times keep on rolling, with the 80’s smash hit show, 9 to 5, The Mu-sical featuring Dolly Parton’s electric musi-cal score with such hits as “Backwoods Bar-bie” and the ever-classic “9 to 5”. BHCT is proud to announce that 9 to 5 will be led by guest di-rector Jeff Kingsbury, from Olympia, Wash-ington. who leads a stellar cast in Dolly Parton’s female extrava-ganza of broken love, boot-stompin’ laughter, and good-time country music. Local audiences will know Kingsbury from his roles on stage at the Black Hills Playhouse (King Arthur in Spa-malot, President Hock-stader in The Best Man, and directed Children of Eden). Kingsbury is thrilled to be directing 9 to 5, the Musical, featuring Danielle Heinert as Violet (Lily Tomlin’s character), Kory Yamada as Judy (Jane Fonda’s character) and Michelle Martinson as Dolly’s own, Doralee! The musical also
features a Black Hills’ favorite, 80’s new wave band front-man, Greg “Spike” Brandriet, from the Synthetics, as boss man Mr. Hart and the lovely Kristol McKie as Roz, the office snitch. You’ll love this fresh, fun and fantastic musical ver-sion of the beloved mov-ie. The talented cast of over 16 local artists is highlighted by set design-er, Jason Reuter, costume designer Chris Lee and technical direction by
Cody Juttelstad. CAST LIST: Doralee-Michelle Martinson; Judy- Kory Yama-da; Violet-Danielle Heinert; Roz (Office Snitch)-Kristol McKie; Franklin Hart- Greg Brandreit. THE ENSEMBLE: Marga-ret-Camilla Gunderson; Joe-Austin Hegert; Dwayne (Doralee’s Mate)- John Kaiser;

Message from the Interim Artistic Director
In the last decade, theatre in Rapid City has flourished. This Renaissance period of artistic humanity didn't just come about because a select few of vagabonds, gypsies and bard-toting en-thusiasts thought we should; but, rather, an intrinsic thirst for human beings to come together to share stories and revel in what it is to be human. Growing up here, I relished in the op-portunities to enjoy this Dionysian festival at the Black Hills Playhouse, Group Theatre, children's theatre at Storybook Is-land, the RC Public Library and the Bookmobile. Forty years later, new troupes and guilds have nearly doubled the existing ones, to my Thespian heart's delight! To name only a few, this past month alone, a theatre fanatic could enjoy "A Christmas
Story" at Black Hills Community Theatre, "A Christmas Carol" at Seraphim Theatrical Entertainment, and "Jesus Christ Superstar" at the Firehouse Brew-ing Theatre. Great live theatre is happening nearly everywhere and it is so much more than playing dress-up and make-believe. There is real, cultural and sociological fellowship hap-pening in the truest forms of humanity...a communal ritual of vulnerability exposing our-selves to the miracles, triumphs, woes, evils and perseverance of mankind. The kind of therapy that makes us weep like babes and laugh like kings and love like animals.
Black Hills Community Theatre has a long tradition of bringing theatre classics and fresh new plays to our town. Since its inception, BHCT has brought over 250 theatrical produc-

A Message from the Director of Education and Outreach
Jacob Roman
What an exciting year we just had! I know that I’m ready for the Christmas break. But that’s not to say that there aren’t more plans for some great theatre, and some great fun. Here’s what’s in the works!
The Cherry Street Players are getting ready to stretch their vocal chords with our spring show In Space (April 24th & 25th), a wild and cosmic adventure of skits, vignettes, and of course, singing! The classes for the spring will be mostly centered around musical theatre, including some music theory and musical stag-ing. They will also be introduced to some tech classes, which will introduce them to set painting and lights.
Join us for our next Open Houses, January 20 & 21, 4pm-6pm.
The Well Done Players will also be busy doing what they do best, entertaining. They of course will still be providing shows to the local nursing homes, but as we have seen from this fall, its clear the Well Done Players are trying to make splashes in other venues. They recently have performed at the Dahl Arts Cen-ter, and the Rapid City Public Library. The Journey Museum may also be show-casing the troupe this season as well!
