We pledged that every one of our events would have conversation and community at its heart. And we committed to listening to and learning from each other as we work to make this a positive, engaged school community. We’re now at the end of the first quarter, and with your help, we have taken significant steps forward in growing our PTA community. Dozens of parents, grandparents, teachers, staff, administrators, and Swansfield alumni have volunteered to make our events — from the fall dance to the FitnessThon to the Fall Festival — successful, safe, and fun. At each of these events, we have made new friends, exchanged phone numbers, arranged playdates, talked about our kids, and, most importantly, talked about who we are as a Swansfield community. This is exactly what we set out to do. Let’s keep it up. Currently, Blessings in a Backpack is sending food home with 20 Swansfield children every week. Because our need is greater, though, we’d like to serve even more students. There are three ways to give. 1. You may bring a cash donation to the dance. The PTA will use your donation to purchase food for our Swansfield program. 2. You may make an online donation at www.blessingsinabackpack.org and designate that your donation go to Swansfield ES in Columbia, MD. 3. You may purchase a treat from the snack bar at the dance. All proceeds for the evening will benefit the Blessings in a Backpack program.
