Aware of this need, Family Services has launched Grief Companions, a program that connects donor families on a more personal level. Last November, OneLegacy sponsored a training program to guide volunteer donor family members on how to listen, support and “be with” a bereaved person by phone. If you are interested in receiving a phone call from one of our trained grief companions, please contact Kari Kozuki at 213-401-0143. We will be happy to connect you to a grief companion who can help support you in your journeys. the Companion During the month of December, OneLegacy invited volunteers to help decorate two Rose Parade floats: Donate Life’s “Many Families, One Gift” and the Eastman Kodak Company’s “Memory Lane.” On December 26th and 27th, over 140 donor family members gathered at Phoenix Decorating’s Rose Palace in honor of their loved ones who have given the gift of life and hope. When Family Services was offered a decorating shift dedicated to donor families, we hoped that we would have enough interest to fill one shift. Imagine our delight when we asked for additional shifts to meet the overwhelming response! This was an opportunity not only to decorate the floats, but for donor families to meet one another in a casu- al atmosphere. “I talked with other families about their loss and was able to talk about my son,” said Debbie Shields, mother of donor Felix Traster. “I felt very connected to everyone.” Decorating was a special time for families to remember their loved ones. Mariana Jauregui, sister of donor Juan Jauregui, said, “To be there as a family, together on Juan’s birthday was the best gift to give him and ourselves. We couldn’t have thought of a better way to celebrate Juan’s life.” Debbie describes feel- ing close to Felix while decorating and knowing that “my son D eed Someone to Listen? OneLegacy Ambassadors, the official volunteer program of OneLegacy, offers donor family mem-bers, transplant recipients, and others who havebeen touched by donation or transplantation anopportunity to share their experiences and contributeto community outreach efforts.

In February, twenty-two donor family membersattended the workshops to become partners withOneLegacy in increasing awareness about organand tissue donation.

Donate Life Run/WalkOneLegacy invites you to join Southern California’s donation and transplantation community at the thirdannual Donate Life Run/Walk on Saturday, April 23 at Cal State Fullerton. The 5K/1K Run/Walk will raiseawareness about the critical need for organ and tissue donation and will benefit Donate Life California Registry, thestate’s new online organ and tissue donor registry which launches April 4.

We encourage donor families to form a walk team to honor your loved ones and showyour support of organ and tissue donation. You can make a team t-shirt, button, or hat to unifyyour team and celebrate your loved one who gave the gift of life.

Durante el mes de diciembre, OneLegacy invitó voluntarios ha ayudar a decorar dos carrozas del desfile de las rosas: Donación deVida “Muchas Familias, Un Regalo” y el de la Compañía EastmanKodak “Camino de los Recuerdos”. El 26 y 27 de diciembre, másde 140 miembros de familias donantes se reunieron en el “PhoenixDecorating’s Rose Palace” en honor de sus seres queridos quieneshan dado el regalo de vida y esperanza. Cuando a los miembros deServicios a la Familia se les ofreció el turno de decoración dedica-do a las familias donantes, nosotros esperábamos tener suficienteinterés para llenar un turno. ¡Imagínese la satisfacción que sentimosal pedir turnos adicionales para satisfacer tantas respuestas!

Los Embajadores de OneLegacy, es un programa oficial de voluntarios de OneLegacy, que ofrece a los miembros de familias donantes, recipientes de transplantes y a otros quieneshan sido tocados por donación o trasplante una oportunidad de compartir sus experienciasy contribuir a los esfuerzos de hacer un llamado a la comunidad.

En febrero, 22 miembros de familias donantes asistieron a talleres para convertirse en asociadas de OneLegacy para incrementar los conocimientos acerca de donación de órganos o tejidos.

Perla Carrillo, madre de la donante Perlita CarrilloCelis, asistió a un evento para homenajear a su hija y“ayudar a otros a tomar la decisión de donar mientras queaún están saludables ya que yo personalmente sé lo duroque fue tomar la decisión.” Perla obtuvo consuelo al cono-cer otras familias donantes quienes “compartieron algo en común” y también valoraron escuchar la gratitud y verla salud renovada de un recipiente que estuvo presente.

Además de incrementar el conocimiento respecto a la donación de órganos y tejidos, las familias donantes a menudoestán interesadas en el programa de Embajadores debido a que es la manera de compartir su historia acerca de sus seresqueridos y continuar manteniendo su memoria viva.

róximos EventosPCorrida o Caminata de la Donación de VidaOneLegacy invita a que se una a la comunidad de recipientes de trasplantesy familias donantes del sur de California durante la tercera corrida o caminataanual de donación de vida que se efectuará el sábado, 23 de abril en Cal State Fullerton. La corridao caminata de 5K/1K incrementará la conciencia acerca de la crítica necesidad de donación deórganos o tejidos y beneficiará al Registro de Donación de Vida de California, el nuevo registroestatal de donantes de órganos y tejido a través de la línea electrónica que se inaugura el 4 de abril.

Alentamos a las familias donantes a formar un equipo para caminar en honor de sus seres queridos y mostrar su apoyo de la donación de órganos y tejidos. Pueden hacer camisetas, botones,sombreros para unificar su equipo y celebrar a su ser querido quien dio el regalo de vida.
