In our society, food plays an important partin family and social gatherings. Many happyoccasions are celebrated by family andfriends with food that is lovingly preparedand shared together. Treasured memories arecreated around the dinner table, and tradi-tions are kept through holiday meals.

We have received a few submissions, butare hoping more donor families will sharerecipes so we can compile a cookbook.

We ask that you send us a favoriterecipe of your loved one that you’d like toshare. This can be your loved one’s favoritedish, something you used to cook togeth-er… any recipe that reminds you of the person you love.

With your recipe, you can also send a picture of your loved one and a short

Día De Los Muertos is one ofMexico's traditional holidays reunitingand honoring beloved ancestors, familyand friends. It is an ancient and endur-ing ritual when the living communewith the dead – a mystical night whenthe veil is lifted between their tworealms, and they may share a daytogether. This night is an importantfeast and evocation.It is a time whenfamily members share memorable stories.Offerings and altars are created to welcome and commemorate the dead.Altars typically are created with photos,mementos, fruit, bread, and otherfavorite things of the ancestors being

welcomed and honored. The artifacts of these altars also provide the opportunity to teach children about those who came before them. Día De LosMuertos is a time of celebration on remembrance. It is also a time to come toterms with our mortality and become aware of the cycle of life and death.

For the last five years, OneLegacy has part-nered with organizations across the countryto inspire the world to donate life by partici-pating in the Rose Parade. The 2009 DonateLife float is themed “Stars of Life” and willfeature 24 float riders that include transplantrecipients, living donors, and family membersof deceased donors. The riders are immersedin a spectacular shower of stars climbingmore than 30 feet in the air, representing allthe people who make the gift of life possible.

We invite you to help bring the DonateLife float to life! The donor family decorat-ing shifts are on Friday, December 26thfrom 8am – 3pm and 3pm – 9pm and Sunday,December 28th from 8am – 4pm. We willtake sign ups on a first-come, first-serve basis.Due to liability and insurance issues, all volunteers must be at least 15 years old.Anyone under 18 years old must bring a validhigh school identification card. All volunteersmust be present for the entire shift. When you call to reserve decorating spaces, be prepared to give the names of the people inyour group. Each donor family is limited tofive decorating spots.

If decorating during a seven hour shift isnot for you or if you have family membersthat cannot participate in decorating, you canbe part of the Donate Life float through theFamily Circle program. Anyone touched bydonation and transplantation can purchase arose that will be placed in the stars at the

Craigy Kathleen Hostert, directores del Evento Caminata/Maratón Done Vida dijeron: “Fue verdaderamente conmovedor ver a 3.000 familias donantes asistir a laCaminata/Maratón Done Vida parapasar el día celebrando la vida de susseres queridos. Aunque no pudimosagradecer a cada uno de los familiaresdonantes, ellos son los verdaderoshéroes en la donación de órganos ytejidos y nos sentimos honrados altener tantas familias que asisten y forman parte de esta celebraciónanual. Las expresiones de alegría enlas caras de los familiares al cruzar lalínea de partida y la de meta fue algoverdaderamente increíble y esperamoscon entusiasmo ver a las familiasregresar cada año formando susequipos y homenajeando a sus seresqueridos. ¡Gracias por su apoyo y

Como Embajador Done Vida usted tiene la oportunidad dehacer cosas importantes: inspirar a otros a que consideren ladonación, educar al público y lo más importante -contará la historiade su ser querido por medio de lo cual mantendrá viva su memoria.

Le invitamos a que se informe más sobre el ProgramaEmbajadores Done Vida asistiendo al taller de capacitación en septiembre. Dicha capacitación brindará información sobre ladonación de órganos y tejidos, le ayudará a esclarecer los mitosque tiene el público en general sobre la donación y le dará las her-ramientas para contar su historia personal para así inspirar a otros.

El Día de los Muertos es una de las fechas festivas tradicionales de México que reúne y honraa ancestros, familiares y amistades queridas. Es un ritual antiguo y perdurable en que los vivos convivencon los muertos – una noche mística en que cae elvelo que separa sus dos mundos y que pueden com-partir juntos un día. Esta noche es una importantecelebración y evocación. Es una ocasión en que las familias comparten historias memorables. Lasofrendas y los altares se crean para dar la bienveni-da y conmemorar a los muertos. Los altares general-mente se decoran con fotos, recuerdos, fruta, pan yotras cosas favoritas de los antepasados bienvenidosy homenajeados. Los artefactos de estos altarestambién brindan la oportunidad para hablarles a

los niños sobre sus antepasados. El Día de los Muertos es una ocasión para celebrar el recuerdo. También es ocasión para aceptar nuestra propia mortalidad y tomarconocimiento del ciclo de la vida y de la muerte.

Durante los últimos cinco años, OneLegacy se haasociado con organizaciones alrededor del paíspara inspirar al mundo a que done vida participandodel Desfile de las Rosas. La carroza Done Vida2009 tiene como tema: “Las Estrellas de Vida” (eninglés “Stars of Life”) y contará con 24 pasajerosa incluir beneficiados con trasplantes, donantessobrevivientes y familiares de donantes fallecidos.Los pasajeros son inmersos en una lluvia espec-tacular de estrellas con una elevación de más de 30pies en representación de todas las personasquienes hicieron posible el regalo de vida.

¡Los invitamos a que ayuden a que la carrozaDone Vida cobre vida! Los turnos de decoraciónpara las familias donantes serán el viernes, 26 dediciembre de 8 a.m. hasta 3 p.m. y de 3 p.m. hasta9 p.m. y domingo, 28 de diciembre de 8 a.m. hasta4 p.m. Aceptaremos inscripciones según el ordende recibo de solicitud para los cupos. Por motivosde responsabilidad legal y cuestiones de seguro,todos los voluntarios deberán ser mayores de 15años. Cualquier menor a los 18 años deberá traerconsigo una identificación de la escuela secundariao prepa (high school). Todos los voluntariosdeberán estar presentes el turno completo. Cuandollamen para reservar sus cupos de decoración,estén listos para dar los nombres de todas las personas de su grupo. Cada familia donante estarálimitada a cinco cupos para la decoración.

Si no le es factible decorar durante turnos desiete horas o si tiene familiares que no pueden participar en la decoración, pueden tomar parte dela carroza Done Vida por medio del programaCírculo Familiar. Cualquier afectado por la
