President’s Updateby Lyn Perez - Club President
It is hard to believe 2018 has come to an end. It has been a busy year for the Florida Citrus Porsche Club. With our membership meetings and din-ners, Porsche Nights at ACE Café, our DE and AX series, Rolex 24 Hours Corral Hospitality, Cars and Coffee Ocoee and Porsche of Orlando, Charity Ral-lys to Boggy Creek Camp and Al-Marah Arabian Horse Farm, Appalachian Adventure to N.C., Date your Porsche nights, Howie Mansion Tour, Chili Cook-off, Drive and Dines, Festival of Speed, Or-lando Christmas Parade and the FLC PCA Holiday Party, it’s hard to believe we fit it all in.
We want to thank everyone who volunteered and helped organize our activities. The PCA is fueled by volunteers and Florida Citrus is grateful for ev-eryone’s willingness to pitch in. We also want to thank David Fekete who has served this past year as Secretary on the board. It is a position with lots of responsibilities. Thank you, David for a job well done. Nancy Burgos will be stepping as secretary for 2019. Thank you, Nancy.
Also, we want to give big thanks to Arden Griffith, who has sacrificially served as our Treasurer for over a decade. Arden took over as treasurer in difficult times for the club and helped establish our financial stability. We owe her a great debt of gratitude. Dan Beyer will be taking Arden’s place as treasure for 2019. Thank you, Dan.
Looking forward to the new year, it will be an-other busy one. Right off the bat in January we have a number of events planned and which are already open for registration. We have a Drive and Dine planned for Restaurant Row at Port Canav-eral on January 12th, then a Driver’s Education Seminar and breakfast sponsored by Hagerty Insurance for new and beginning drivers at ACE Café on the morning of January 19th and one for Advanced Drivers on January 28th in the evening. See clubregistration.net for times and details.
Then we have again our hospitality responsibili-ties for the Rolex 24 Hour race at Daytona on Sat-urday morning January 26th. If you are attending the race please come by the PCA Corral at 7:00 am till noon on Saturday and give us a hand. We need
greeters, parking help, refresh-ment administration, member registration help, et al.
Also in January, you will have the opportunity to register for the 2019 Zonefest at Lakeside Inn at Mt. Dora to be held on Memorial Day Weekend May 24-26 2019. There will be early bird registration with reduced cost until March 1st so register early. This will also be the 45th Anniversary Celebration of the Florida Citrus Porsche Club. Please don’t miss this important event. Save the dates now.
In addition, in January or early February you will be able to register for Porsche Parade to be held at the Boca Resort in Boca Raton July 21-28. After your initial registration you will be able to book your rooms at the Hotel then select the various events you wish to attend at Parade. Keep a look-out for details. This is a 1 in 15-year opportunity to attend the National Porsche Parade in our own backyard.
And lastly, thank you for allowing me to again serve the Florida Citrus Porsche Club as President. Our finances are in good shape, membership con-tinues to grow, and we look forward to another good year ahead. If the Spiel does not get to you before the Holidays, let me belatedly wish you a very merry holiday season with friends and family and a very good and prosperous New Year.

Hero’s, Horses and Horsepower
by Lyn Perezphotos by Bill Kent
In celebration of Veterans Day, the Florida Citrus Porsche Club scheduled a Charity Rally on Sun-day November 11, 2018 that terminated at the Al-Marah Arabian horse stables in Lake County for a horse-riding demonstration by Horses and Hero’s an organization that assists veterans with PTSD and with coping with re-entry into civilian life.
Gathering for the check in and drivers meeting at Millenia Motors at 9:00 am in Longwood Florida, more than 50 cars departed at 10:00 am to enjoy a two-hour drive and challenge rally designed by Bill and Prudy Davis through the beautiful back roads of Central Florida arriving at the Al-Marah stables in Clermont Floridafor a catered barbecue lunch by Mission Barbeque of Oviedo and a horse drill demonstration by Horses and Hero’s. The Porsche club came face to face with the beau-tiful, friendly and outgoing horses, some who performed for years at Arabian Nights Dinner At-traction in Kissimmee Florida. It is even said that the horse on the Porsche logo is likely an Arabian
Veteran’s Day Charity Rally
since Arabians are known to have been bred in Stuttgart. Another piece of evidence is the tail set. The Arabian horse has one vertebra less than oth-er horses and causes the tail to be carried high.
This Charity Rally benefitted three Veterans groups; Horses and Hero’s, Honor Flights and it provided a scholarship for veterans for the Asso-ciate in Arts Equine Management program at Al-Marah stables.

Meanwhile, at the Porsche Club Meeting…
by Kevin DuffyThe Florida Citrus Region Porsche Club of America (FCR), based in the Orlando area, holds its monthly meetings on the first Monday of the month. Normal-ly meetings take place at the Porsche Dealership in Maitland, but for November, the meeting was moved to Orlando Brewing in downtown Orlando. It’s not a large venue, with the meeting and most socializing taking place outside in the parking lot – with the Porsches.
The FCR has over a thousand members who could attend, bringing something north of six hundred Porsches to any event. Monthly meetings usually bring fifty or more together, and this night was no ex-ception. With parking at a premium at Orlando Brew-ing, members were tasked to carefully line up the cars to make room for as many as possible.
Then Sparky arrived.
While we have many members with cars like ours, they don’t tend to make membership meetings. In-stead, those with 911’s, Caymans and Boxsters domi-nate. So after parking Sparky, I found this photo to be quite interesting…

The new Porsche 718 T
Stuttgart. With the 718 T, Porsche has transferred the puristic design of the 1968 911 T to its range of two-seater sports cars. The new model in the Boxster and Cayman ranges combines the 300 HP turbo four-cylinder flat engine with a particularly emotional Porsche driving experience. The high-performance character of the T models is emphasised by an extensive equipment package, which includes 20-inch alloy wheels, the PASM sports chassis lowered by 20 millimetres – which is being offered in combination with the 2.0-litre turbo-charged engine for the first time in this range – the shortened gearshift, on which the gears are emblazoned in red, and the Sport Chrono package. These features can only be enjoyed in combination with the basic engine in the 718 T. Porsche is offering both the Boxster and Cayman variants with six-speed gearbox and Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV), including mechanical rear axle differential locking. Porsche dual-clutch transmission (PDK) is also available as an option.
Traditionally, “T” stands for “Touring” in Porsche models, and is synonymous with driving pleasure in its purest form. The 718 T will be most at home on winding country roads, offering the joy of dynam-ic driving as its ultimate goal. The two-seater accommodates this philosophy through a pared down range of features. These include black door pulls in the door panels and sports seats with electric two-way adjustment, black Sport-Tex centre sections and the “718” logo embroidered on the headrests.
One special feature of this model is its dynamic gearbox mount – the PADM sys-tem, which minimises vibrations in the engine/gearbox area and reduces move-ments that could affect driving dynamics as a result of the total mass of the drivetrain. This combines the advantages of hard and soft gearbox mounts: driving behaviour becomes noticeably more precise and stable during changes in load and on fast curves. Driving comfort is unaffected on uneven roads.

The new Porsche 911
Stuttgart, Germany. Porsche presented the 8th gener-ation of the 911 in Petree Hall at the Los Angeles Auto Show. “The 8th generation of the 911 is even more powerful, even more emotional, and even more effi-cient than its predecessor – and also offers extensive digital features. And in spite of all the innovations, the 911 is still just what it has always been: a pure sports car and the pulsing heart of Porsche: our icon.”
Unmistakably committed to the Porsche design DNA, with a much more muscular look and an interior featuring a 10.9-inch touchscreen monitor, the new 911 is timeless – and also modern. Intelligent control and chassis elements as well as innovative assistance systems combine the masterfully uncompromising dynamism that the classic rear-engine sportscar is famed for, with the demands of the digital world.
The next generation of flat-six turbocharged engines has been further developed and is more powerful than ever before, with 450hp in the S models. The drive efficiency has been increased by way of an im-proved injection process and a new layout for the tur-bochargers and charge air cooling system. The power is delivered by a newly developed eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.
The exterior design is familiar and yet unmistakably new. Wider wings arch over the large 20-inch wheels at the front and 21-inch wheels at the rear. The rear-wheel-drive models now match the bodywork width of the existing all-wheel models. Their rear body is 44 mm wider. The front end of all models – now 45 mm wider – revives a traditional feature of earlier 911 generations: a forward-extended bonnet with a dis-tinctive recess in front of the windscreen. Both ele-ments lengthen the front of the vehicle and give it a dynamic look. Flush integration of the electrical pop-out handles in the doors emphasises the tapered and smooth side contour.
The rear of all models is dominated by the significant-ly wider, variable-position spoiler and the seamless, elegant light bar. The vertically arranged louvres of the air intake echo the contours of the rear window. The centrally located third brake light has also been integrated in the intake louvres. Since this is hidden when the rear spoiler is extended, there is a second brake light in the spoiler itself. As a distinguishing fea-ture, the rear-wheel-drive models have black louvres, while the all-wheel-drive models have chrome ele-ments in the rear grille.
