Reflecting Light in the Dark Places

Alexander Papaderos, a doctor of philosophy, worked for many years trying to bring peace between the bitterly divided countries of Europe after WWII. His motivation for doing so stems from his childhood and a very odd event which took place. "When I was a small child," he said, "during the war we were poor and lived in a remote village. One day on the road, I found the broken pieces of a mirror. A German motorcycle had been wrecked in that place.... I kept one, the largest piece.... By scratching it on a stone, I made it round. I began to play with it as a toy and became fascinated by the fact that I could reflect light into dark places where the sun would never shine - in deep holes and crevices and dark closets. It became a game for me to get light into the most inaccessible places I could find. I kept the little mirror, and as I went about my growing up, I would take it out in idle moments and continue the challenge of the game.”

“As I became [mature], I grew to understand that this was a metaphor for what I might do with my life. I came to understand that I am not the light or the source of light. The light [or truth] is there, and it will shine in many dark places only if I reflect it."

He concluded: "I am a fragment of a mirror whose whole design and shape I do not know. Nevertheless, with what I have, I can reflect light into the dark places of the world...and change some things in some people. Perhaps others may see and do likewise."

¡Caminado con Jesús!

Llamados a ser discípulos……!!!

Estamos llamados a ser discípulos de Jesús. No es suficiente creer, sino que debemos cargar con nuestras cruces y seguirlo.

Se nos desafía a hacer sacrificios. Se nos reta a vivir nuestra fe. Se nos desafía a ser el rostro de Jesús para todos los que encontremos en nuestro camino.

Al celebrar la Misa de hoy busquemos maneras de vivir mejor nuestra fe.

¡V DOMINGO DEL TIEMPO ORDINARIO!

Jesús al llamar a sus discípulos les ajusta el lente de sus vidas, o sea, que aunque los llama desde las ocupaciones que ya venían haciendo, les cambia la meta.

Por ejemplo, no espero ver a Simón Pedro orando en la sinagoga, sino que lo llamo estando en su propio entorno.

Uso la barca de Simón para predicarle a las multitudes y luego le pidió que echara sus redes para pescar.

Una vez que Simón recogió una cantidad inmensa de peces Jesús cambio el enfoque de Simón; ahora recogería personas y no peces.

A un podía ser un “pescador” pero con una meta diferente.

De manera similar Jesús llama a Saúl cuando se dirigía a Damasco para arrestar a los cristianos.

Pablo continua su viaje fervientemente alrededor del imperio, pero ahora es para evangelizar y no para perseguir.

Los santos Pedro y Pablo son mártires entre los primeros cristianos. Aunque ellos hubiesen sabido cómo iba a terminar su vida, ninguno de los dos se hubieran abstenido de decir: “Aquí estoy Señor, envíame”

Los quiero, reciban mi bendición y no se les olvide orar por mí.

This year’s Catholic Schools Week got a late start due to the weather, and the Soup and Pie Supper/Talent Show had to be rescheduled, but this didn’t dampen spirits. The high-light of the week was Mrs. Shaughnessy returning for “Shaughnessy Olympics.” For pictures and video, check us out on Facebook. To get your tickets for the Catholic United Financial Catho-lic School Raffle, look for students in the back of the church or stop by the school office. It's time to plan for the 2019 Dream Catcher Youth Leader-ship program for the children of immigrant families who are ages 9-15.
