My dear friends:

Go now in peace to love and serve the world. Thanks be To God. This weekend we have the honor of consecrating ourselves to Jesus through our Blessed Mother, Mary under the title of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Consecration is a solemn dedication to a special purpose or service, usually religious. The word consecration means ‘association with the sacred.’ The origin of the word comes from the Latin “consecrat,” which means dedicated, devoted, and sacred. Consecration is used in the Catholic Church as the setting apart for the service of God of both persons and objects. Bishop Checchio, in one of his many articles to the faithful of the diocese in the Catholic Spirit, spoke about graces received from our Blessed Mother. The Bishop emphasized that this consecration which we are doing is not a program but a change of people's hearts. We hope to encourage Catholics who were once active to a conversion and to recommit themselves to the reception of the Sacraments, most especially their participation at Holy Mass every Sunday and Holy Days of Obligation, where we hear God’s Word and receive Jesus’ most Sacred Body and Precious Blood. This consecration may bring a new life in the hearts of the active Catholics to reignite the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit that we received at our Confirmation -- wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord. We, then, become the instruments of grace through which God will work to bring home to Holy Mother, Church those who left us. Although our year of prayer to the intercession of Our Lady of Guadalupe is ended, we have only just begun our time of renewal. Proceeding forth from our consecration, filled with the grace of the Sacraments, most especially Confession and Communion, to work in the mission territory of Somerset Hills, we now Go in peace to love and serve the world. Thanks be To God. Happy Advent, Msgr. Cronin

God Bless Ella Marie Gubitosi

daughter of Nicholas Gubitosi and Emily Ann Peterpaul Gubitosi

Our Lady of Guadalupe, Mother of God, and Mother of the Church of Metuchen, you who were chosen by the Father from all eternity, to offer the blessed fruit of your womb, Jesus Christ, as the one pleasing sacrifice back to God; and, whom that same Son, at the moment of his agony gave the Church, you as Mother forever: listen to the prayers of your children, who cry to you, and intercede for us before your Son in heaven.

Our Lady of Guadalupe, we consecrate ourselves to you, for you do not abandon any person who loves your Son, Jesus, but instead accompany the Christian people in true discipleship.

We pledge ourselves to you, O most beautiful Virgin, and entrust ourselves, and our diocese, to your powerful intercession for you have never forsaken the prayer of faith, but constantly show to your Son the sorrows of your heart, that He may have favor towards all who turn to you.

Help us, Joyful Mother, through your example of living the Gospel, to faithfully proclaim Jesus Christ to be Savior of our hearts; and lead us, by your overflowing grace, to return, with you, to the throne of your Son; where, with you as our Queen and Mother, we shall forever enjoy fellowship with Him and all the saints.

Therefore, assist us in our prayer to the Father, that we, as the Church of Metuchen, may be renewed as missionary disciples, to set hearts on fire here in our Diocese of Metuchen so that, the world may come to know the love of Christ that will transform all people.

Mother of the Americas and Star of the New Evangelization, pray for us.

“Walk to Bethlehem” Sunday December 15th 4:00pm

The “Walk to Bethlehem” is an an-nual tradition that started 25 years ago where members of the four churches in downtown Basking Ridge participate in a parade/pageant, telling the story of Jesus’

birth as we “walk”, from one church to another. The festival starts at the top of the hill at St. James and ends at the Presby-terian Church of Basking Ridge. Inside each church, carols are sung, a gospel reading is read and music is performed. Parishioners, dressed as the biblical characters, lead the way, including Mary, Joseph and a donkey who are greeted by An-gels, Shepherds and Kings along the way. It is a wonderful way to begin the Christmas season.

Let’s Prepare to Celebrate Christmas!

Let’s face it...Christmas has been commercialized to the point that we forget what the real meaning of celebrating Christmas is all about. As Catholics, we can turn this around in our own families by praying a nine-day novena to prepare to receive Jesus into our hearts. This novena begins on De-cember 16th. Each day gather as a family around the nativity set or Christmas tree and pray this prayer. Heavenly Father, your son, Jesus, is your greatest gift to us, a great sign of your love. Guide us as we strive to walk in that love to-gether as a family this Advent. As we prepare our hearts for Christmas, bring us closer to each other and to your Son. Give us the grace and strength we need every day. Help us to always trust in you. Come, Lord Jesus, lead all people closer to you. Come and chase away the darkness of our world with the light of your love. Amen. Sr. Joann Marie Aumand, SCC
